Chapter 866: The Xuanji Tree Mother's Request
Chapter 866: The Xuanji Tree Mother's Request
After the gathering concluded, Lu Chen didn't linger and bid his farewells to Gu Bingqiu before returning to his cave abode.
The two residences weren't far apart, and he soon arrived outside his own cave. He swept the area with his spiritual sense to ensure nothing was amiss before opening the formation and entering.
With the Wanzhang Xuanjing Formation activated, the outside world's distractions became irrelevant.
Lu Chen tended to his spiritual garden, nurturing each plant with care in his own little sanctuary.
Time flew by, and three months passed in the blink of an eye.
During this period, he gathered plenty of recent news about the evil demons.
With the addition of numerous loose cultivators, the situation had improved slightly, and there were no more reports of heavy casualties.
According to his information, some of the treasures offered by Tianxing Cave had been exchanged, but the rarest ones remained, indicating the immense challenge in eradicating the evil demons.
Inside the cave abode, the remaining three little tree nymphs had successfully broken through.
The three white globes of light that appeared after their breakthrough rewarded Lu Chen with a sixth-grade ancient millenary tree heart and the formulae for two fifth-grade Green Condensing Dews.
"All six tree nymphs have now reached their complete forms, even faster than I anticipated."
"It's time to pay a visit to the Qingmu Star Cave. That mysterious Xuanji Tree Mother mentioned that if the tree nymphs grew well, I could seek a high-grade spirit seed from her."
"As a tree spirit in the boundless forest of the Qingmu Star Cave, the spirit seed it offers should be extraordinary."
A smile appeared on Lu Chen's face.
Although the shadows of evil demons loomed over the various star caves, he intended to stay within safe boundaries and be cautious, minimizing the chances of encountering them.
With his thoughts, he summoned the Grass Puppet.
Compared to before, the Grass Puppet had undergone noticeable changes.
Its originally grayish body now showed signs of verdant green, emanating a vibrant vitality.
The ancient wood embedded in its chest was now completely wrapped in grayish-green grass tendrils, with one end of the tendrils buried deep within the wood, absorbing the wood's essence.
Under the Grass Puppet's relentless absorption, the ancient millenary tree heart had shrunk considerably, and the exposed section of wood no longer looked out of place.
"Keep a good watch over the cave abode. If any cultivators or other beings try to force their way in, you can enter the formation and use the Arrow Vine to destroy them," Lu Chen instructed the Grass Puppet.
The primary function of the Wanzhang Xuanjing Formation was defense rather than offense. However, if intruders breached the formation, the Grass Puppet could enter the formation and utilize the Arrow Vine to attack them.
Although the Arrow Vine was only fourth-grade, its extreme range made it more than capable of dealing with cultivators trapped within the formation.
The Grass Puppet's intellect had improved significantly during this period, and it had at least memorized the formation's operation route, allowing it to enter and exit freely.
With everything prepared, Lu Chen left his cave abode and gazed at the endless fine lightning in the distance, feeling a sense of strangeness in his heart.
"There's no day or night in the cave abode," he mused.
With that, he transformed into a streak of silver-white lightning and shot forward.
Upon entering the Qingmu Star Cave, Lu Chen took out the communication talismans of two familiar cultivators, Yulin Sanyuan and Wang Suihai, intending to contact them and catch up.
He waited for a moment, but there was no response.
"I wonder if they're in seclusion or if they've also gone to hunt evil demons," Lu Chen thought.
Changing directions, he made his way toward the place where he had obtained the tree nymphs.
The boundless forest of the Qingmu Star Cave surged with waves of emerald green, a lush tapestry of varying shades.
Lu Chen employed the Wood Escape Technique and entered one of the towering giants that scraped the clouds.
Lu Chen immediately stopped, and the silhouettes of a few little tree nymphs appeared. They flapped their pale green wings, circling around him playfully.
From time to time, they would draw close to sniff at him curiously before shyly pulling away, their eyes filled with inquisitiveness.
"It seems they've caught the scent of their kin," Lu Chen remarked with a smile as he summoned the six tree nymphs from the Gluttonous Insect Pouch.
Upon seeing their stronger, unfamiliar kin, the newly appeared tree nymphs displayed a hint of wariness.
However, sharing the same origin, they soon became extremely affectionate towards each other, chirping and chattering away, seemingly deep in conversation.
"It's been many years, and that passionate tree nymph from before is nowhere to be seen," Lu Chen mused.
The tree nymphs from the Cyanwood Star Cave seemed to have received some sort of message from their companions, for they suddenly became more enthusiastic towards Lu Chen, gesturing for him to follow them.
Lu Chen complied without hesitation, enveloping himself in verdant spiritual energy as he sped deeper into the giant tree.
Moments later, a faint popping sound echoed, as if he had passed through a thin, translucent green membrane. He found himself in a world of green, with a vast green canopy overhead and countless massive roots and vines entwined below, forming bizarre landscapes. Innumerable grass and wood spirits cavorted and frolicked amidst this greenery.
Lu Chen stood there, a smile on his face, quietly waiting for the Xuanji Tree Mother to appear.
Before long, a faint greenish aura emanated from the tree nymphs accompanying Lu Chen.
He was unfazed by this phenomenon, observing that countless other grass and wood spirits exhibited the same anomaly.
Countless greenish auras converged, coalescing into a humanoid figure of verdant green.
The figure towered at several dozen feet tall, with innumerable vines of varying sizes and colors dangling from its upper body, and numerous branch-like arms extending from its torso, layer upon layer, reaching all the way to the edge of the green canopy.
"Greetings, Senior Tree Mother," Lu Chen bowed respectfully.
"So it's you, young friend," a voice, gentle to the extreme, echoed in Lu Chen's ears. "These tree nymphs, are they the ones you brought out from the Qingmu Star Cave? I didn't expect them to grow so quickly and attain their complete forms."
"Judging from their auras, they must have fused with a wood-attribute heavenly treasure," the voice continued.
"You have my gratitude for your care and nurturing of these tree nymphs. I am now at ease," the Xuanji Tree Mother's voice, filled with warmth and benevolence, brought a sense of profound peace to Lu Chen's heart.
This was the same mysterious Xuanji Tree Mother who resided within the Qingmu Star Cave, her origins shrouded in secrecy and her power unfathomable. Rooted within the star cave, she could divide herself into countless beings or merge into this singular, majestic form.
"By chance, I obtained a treasure that was perfectly suited for these little sprites, so I let them divide it equally among themselves," Lu Chen replied casually. He then offered two additional sections of ancient millenary tree hearts to the tree nymphs, keeping the last one for the Demon Ghost Vine.
"You are truly considerate, young friend. Seeing how well you've cared for and nurtured these tree nymphs, I am relieved," the Xuanji Tree Mother's gentle voice conveyed her contentment.
"I had intended to let them return to the Tree Realm and grow freely, but now I've changed my mind. Perhaps, staying by your side will be more beneficial for their growth," she continued.
"Of course, I will not forget the promise I made to you. I have a high-grade spirit seed here, which I bestow upon you. I hope that you will continue to nurture them with the same dedication," the Xuanji Tree Mother slowly said, her already gentle voice sounding like celestial music to Lu Chen's ears.
