Chapter 862: Joining the Festivities
Chapter 862: Joining the Festivities
Aha!
It wasn't long ago that there was an Essence Skill Tide!
This change holds little significance for someone like me, who has already awakened.
But for ordinary people, it's a rare opportunity that comes only once every ten years, a chance to change their destiny, all depending on luck! The same goes for the capital city of Silver City.
This city selects young people willing to join the ranks, providing them with training over a period of time. After cultivating their initial skills and confirming their path as Law Guardians, they proceed to the city center for an oath ceremony.
It's all because of the Essence Skill Tide that occurs once every ten years.
This oath ceremony has also become a grand festival held every decade.
Lindsey has always been curious about the Righteous Ones and the Law Guardians.
His gaze followed the young team as they made their way towards the city center, heading towards the location of the castle on the mountain.
Behind Lindsey, footsteps approached.
The Law Guardian who had just delivered his residence permit spoke up:
"What's the plan? Want to go check it out?"
"I don't have any work at the moment, so I can take you there on the way. Plus, this is one of the rare celebrations in Silver City right now. It'd be a shame to miss it."
Lindsey nodded:
"Can I go and see it too, even though I just arrived?"
The Law Guardian's voice carried a smile:
"Of course! The entire area around the inner moat is open for spectators. Let's go together."
Lindsey didn't refuse the Law Guardian's offer to guide him.
As they walked, they continued their casual conversation, and Lindsey learned that the man's name was Ian, a Stage 3 Law Guardian in his forties.
Before Ian became an Awakened, Silver City had fallen into turmoil, and the capital city was sealed off.
After living in these conditions for several decades,
he had even grown accustomed to the scarcity of resources, diligently adhering to the law clauses and living in the city with the intention of protecting the people.
As they chatted, memories of Ian's past were stirred by the upcoming Law Oath Ceremony:
"It's so nostalgic. Many years ago, I was just like them."
"Awakening, reciting regulations, and joining the Legion."
"Lindsey, to be honest, I thought I had quite the talent back then, and I even believed I had the potential to become an Ascender like you!"
Lindsey tried to comfort the kind man who had offered to guide him:
"I'm not that great either."
"And the Game Player profession, it's just full of all sorts of troubles."
Ian's gaze focused on Lindsey:
"Right, at your age, you've already reached the Fifth Stage!"
"With such exceptional talent, why didn't you choose to become a Law Guardian... or a Righteous One? Why did you choose to devote yourself to this niche... game?"
Lindsey's expression froze:
"Because... I like it?"
Ian also paused:
"Like it? That's such a childlike answer, but I think it's great."
"..."
The two continued on their way.
Along the inner moat, many people had already gathered.
The bustling crowd Lindsey saw when he woke up in the morning was also because of this event.
The capital city of Silver City had an average population age of over fifty years. With the arrival of this rare festival, people of all ages had gathered. Simultaneously, due to the presence of Law Guardians maintaining order, there were few instances of trampling or disputes.
Occasionally, there were some verbal altercations.
Just like what Lindsey had witnessed earlier, the Law Guardians would take them away for detention.
Ian led Lindsey to a spot facing the inner moat.
The long bridge leading to the castle stood to their upper right.
From here, they could even see the gleaming sword atop the castle's highest tower.
"..."
Lindsey pushed through the crowd and turned to Ian beside him, asking, "Ian, you're stuck at the third stage, and the Law Guardian's skill sublimation is just like this. What do you find difficult about it?"
The path of the Law Guardian in the City of Laws was no secret.
Ian sighed and began to ramble, "You're a genius, you don't understand the struggles of us ordinary people."
"The first stage is simple; it's just memorizing the law clauses well."
"The second stage is about genuine acceptance. I think the laws in the City of Laws are pretty good, and it only takes a couple of years to reach that stage."
"The third stage requires you to put the law into practice, which I've been doing for years. It's just that when I reach the fourth stage, I always struggle."
Lindsey tried to ask, "Where do you think the difficulty lies?"
Ian shook his head with a bitter smile, "According to my captain, the next stage involves perceiving the land beneath your feet as a domain governed by the law, also known as the Order Realm. I always feel something is off, but I can't quite put my finger on it... Look! The young men are here."
Suddenly, Ian interrupted his own explanation.
Following the Law Guardian's guidance, Lindsey looked back and noticed that the young men who had been wearing simple armor earlier were now dressed in clean white robes, with only a sword hanging at their waists.
They formed a line of three, creating a long procession.
Led by five fully armed elite Law Guardians, they marched straight towards them.
On both sides, there were musicians playing music, their spirited tunes carrying an air of authority and genuine emotional awe!
"..."
"Are they... artists?"
In the crowd, Lindsey recognized the identity of these musicians.
The bridge connecting the castle faced the main street of the Capital City in the City of Laws.
Under the watchful eyes of the residents, the procession made its way, passing by Lindsey and Ian.
They stepped onto the long bridge, entering the central mountain range of the City of Laws, and followed the circular corridor towards the castle at the top.
...
An hour passed as they watched the ceremony.
At the top of the castle, which Lindsey could only see by looking up, the young men who had newly joined the Law Guardians stood in a row.
At the peak of the mountain, the leader of the Law Guardians, who had been waiting for a long time, stepped forward.
He raised his longsword, pointing it at the tip of the stone tower above.
However, at this moment, the ruler had not arrived, and the royal artifact of the City of Laws had not activated.
The carving at the top did not glow as it should have.
"Colleagues!"
"You don the white robes, and in the City of Laws' time of crisis, you choose to embark on this path of hardship. I salute your courage..."
The Law Guardian above began his oath ceremony speech.
These contents were all cliches, and Lindsey wasn't interested, so he started looking around.
The residents of the City of Laws, on the other hand, were quite interested.
Or perhaps, during this once-a-decade festival, even these cliche speeches were worth listening to, as people were willing to come and listen, filling the usually mundane daily life with excitement.
"..."
Seeing this, Lindsey decided to leave.
But just a quarter of an hour later.
As he pushed through the crowd towards the street, about to leave the edge of the city moat, he suddenly realized that the Law Guardians from each safety node, all at least fifth stage and above, were staring at him.
"..."
Lindsey's steps froze: "Why are they looking at me?"
