Chapter 861: The Wind of Words
Chapter 861: The Wind of Words
General Han Kang stood up and walked into the room, picking up the receiver. Before he could bring it to his ear, a familiar voice sounded from within, "Old Han, you're hiding such a big matter from me, that's not right!"
General Han recognized the voice of his superior, White Commander. He had a hunch about the reason for the call and replied, "Old White, what are you talking about? Have you received any news from your side?"
"Don't play dumb with me," White Commander said with feigned displeasure. "As soon as your nephew arrived, the command center received the news and sent a team to assist the Central City troops in maintaining vigilance."
White Commander continued in a tone that suggested he was not pleased, "Old Han, you're keeping this so secret, not even giving a heads-up beforehand. A sudden attack? Not a good idea, is it?"
General Han quickly apologized, "I admit I was careless in this matter, causing trouble for the commanders. It's my fault."
White Commander laughed a few times, "Your nephew is extraordinary. As soon as he arrived in Southern Mountain Province, half of Central City was in an uproar. I'm here representing the command center to make an appearance. Old Han, you should come along too. Don't be shy; at home, you're the elder, but outside, we must handle things officially."
General Han immediately stood at attention and replied loudly, "Yes, I will obey the order."
"Alright, don't be so serious," White Commander laughed and added half-jokingly, "Later, you'll have to introduce him to me properly, right?"
"Definitely, definitely."
"Okay, my car will be at your place in five minutes. Old Han, get ready, I'll hang up first."
After hanging up the call, General Han experienced a surge of complex emotions. He took a moment to compose himself, then turned to his two daughters and said, "Your cousin Chen Chuan is coming. You two, call your mother and your brother back. I'll go and welcome him first."
Han Xiaohuan asked, "Dad, will my brother come back?"
General Han took the clothes Nurse Ling handed him, put them on, fastened the buttons, and straightened his hat. "Tell him that if he doesn't come back, he shouldn't come back at all." He then picked up his briefcase and strode out.
As soon as he left, Han Xiaohuan quietly asked Nian Qian, "Cousin, were you talking about Chen Chuan earlier? Cousin Chen seems so amazing. I've never seen Dad like that before."
Nian Qian replied, "Your cousin Chen Chuan is not just amazing. Hmm, at his age, there are not many in Great Shun who can compare." His tone carried a sense of pride that was difficult to conceal.
Upon hearing this, the Han sisters were surprised, their eyes sparkling with anticipation. Han Xiaojing exclaimed excitedly, "Is Cousin Chen Chuan coming to our house soon? Sister, let's call him!"
"I'll call our brother, and you call Mom."
"Okay, sister."
The two sisters split up, with Han Xiaojing having an easier time as Aunt Yu, Nian Fulu, and Yu Wan were shopping in Central City, accompanied by a duty officer. They just needed to find the intermediary and connect through Interlink.
Han Xiaohuan, on the other hand, faced a challenge as her brother's residence was not fixed, and no one knew where he was at that moment. She had to think of ways to find people to contact him.
As General Han stepped outside, he pondered how to approach this nephew. He remembered the last time he saw him, which was quite a while ago, perhaps sixteen or seventeen years ago? But back then, the nephew was just a toddler, and he hardly had any impression of him.
At that moment, he reached the intersection and saw the staff car already parked there. White Commander and another slightly younger, handsome officer were standing together.
He recognized the younger man—Fan Jia Er, son-in-law of Deputy Commander Liu and a young talent in the staff department.
White Commander pointed at him and smiled, "Old Han, you usually don't mention your nephew, keeping him hidden and not letting anyone know?"
General Han explained, "To be honest, my nephew lives in Ji Bei Dao, and it's not easy to visit frequently. I don't want to disturb them unless it's necessary. It's not like I haven't seen them in a long time, right?"
"Alright, alright, I was just joking. I'm not blaming you, Old Han. Come on, get in the car." White Commander then said to the handsome officer, "Fan, you sit in front, and I'll sit in the back with Old Han."
Fan smiled and saluted the two men before walking over to open the rear door for them.
As General Han got into the car and the other officer closed the door for him, he felt a pleasant sensation he couldn't quite explain.
The car slowly started and headed toward the main road. He soon noticed that the entire route was on high alert, with a sentry at every stretch and patrols passing by from time to time. He couldn't help but exclaim, "This is..."
White Commander explained, "It's the arrangement of Central City. The Defense Department has also deployed personnel. It's not just for show; they're worried about potential trouble. Recently, the resistance organizations have been causing quite a stir. If someone takes advantage of this to cause trouble and gets into a conflict with an outsider like a fighter, it could become a big issue. Fighters are known for their temperaments. It's no wonder the higher-ups are taking this so seriously and setting up such a grand display."
At that moment, in a civilian residence near the main commercial area of Central City, Han Cheng, dressed in his sleepwear, was pacing inside while communicating with someone through Interlink.
"Hey, what's going on? We agreed to deliver the cargo into the city before noon today. Why haven't you set off yet?"
He was worried about this matter; the connections had been established, and the identities of the delivery personnel had been arranged. All they needed to do was deliver the goods into the city, but now they were giving him a hard time.
A voice came from the Interlink, "Mr. Han, I'm sorry. It's not that we don't want to deliver the cargo, but the situation today is a bit special."
"What situation?"
There was silence from the Interlink for a moment, "Have you just woken up? Take a look outside."
Han Cheng went to the window, drew the curtains, and glanced outside. Under the colorful neon lights, city patrol cars were speeding out, and military airships were flying overhead.
He couldn't help but be stunned.
The voice from the Interlink continued, "Mr. Han, the brothers received some news. A high-ranking official might be visiting today, and all checkpoints are on high alert. We contacted the checkpoint manager, who said that the Security Department has temporarily taken over, and a new investigation supervisor from the Handling Bureau has arrived. They're blocking the checkpoint, so it's not that we're not trying hard enough; it's just not possible today."
Han Cheng took a few glances and pondered, "The high alert is only in one direction. I arranged a proper pass for you. Try going through a different checkpoint to enter the city."
The person on the other side of the Interlink said, "Mr. Han, we've considered this option. You know that some of the brothers have a history. Even with the identity you arranged, the risk of entering the city is too great. But if you insist, Mr. Han, we can give it a try."
Han Cheng hesitated, but suddenly, a burst of chaotic noise and voices came from the Interlink. He immediately asked, "Old Feng, what's going on?"
A slightly tense voice came from the Interlink, "Mr. Han, a team of inspectors has surrounded us. Should we..."
Han Cheng was startled and immediately instructed, "Don't resist. Do as they say, and I'll figure out the rest!"
After the conversation ended, he cursed and immediately started contacting people he knew to find a solution. However, for some reason, people he usually had close dealings with were now either avoiding him or outright expressing their inability to help. Only one person said:
"Brother Han, you're really unlucky today. The Security Department, the Handling Bureau, and the military have all issued orders to seal off the main passages in and out of the Central City. All private activities are prohibited. Unless you can find the Government Head, Director Li, or Commander Zhao to open a loophole for you, I advise you to stay low today."
After thanking him, Han Cheng cursed silently. He had invested a lot of resources into this matter, and if it failed this time, the loss would be minor compared to the damage to the company's reputation.
He tapped his head, still thinking of a solution, when suddenly the phone on the desk rang. He frowned and picked up, "Hello? Who is it?"
"It's me."
"Oh, it's you, Little Huan." Han Cheng was preoccupied and a bit annoyed, so he said, "What's the matter? Is Mom asking me to come back again? Tell her I have important things to do."
"No, Brother. Dad said you must come back today, or else don't come back at all. Dad is serious this time."
Hearing this, Han Cheng felt a chill down his spine. He sighed and said, "Alright, alright, I'll come back for a while."
"Then hurry up, Brother."
After hanging up, Han Cheng immediately changed into his pants and grabbed a piece of clothing before rushing out of the door.
The staff car drove towards the Anchor Tower in the industrial area. When they arrived, they saw a massive airship hovering above the tall tower.
White Commander said, "It's the National Combat Council's dispatch airship." The three of them looked up at the giant hull and could feel a sense of deep and solid power emanating from it.
When the car stopped in front of the tower, the three of them got out. Below, numerous armed vehicles were parked, and there were many Central City Defense Department's implanted armed personnel, controlling the entire area.
White Commander said, "Director Li must have received the news. Let's go over."
As they approached the base of the tower, Han Cheng looked up and saw a tall and handsome young man walking out of the airship.
The young man's eyes seemed to glow, and even though he was dressed casually, when his gaze fell on them, it made Han Cheng's breath catch in his throat involuntarily. White Commander and Fan Staff Officer also paused, their steps halting unconsciously.
In comparison, the other person who came out with the young man, Director Li, was easily overlooked.
The two of them descended from the tower, conversing along the way, until they reached Han Cheng and the others. When the young man looked at Han Cheng, he felt a sense of tension rising within him. Then, the young man smiled at him and said, "It's a pleasure to meet you."
