Chapter 860: City of Law
Chapter 860: City of Law
"I... um... you..."
"Is this the City of Law?!"
Lindsey hesitated, organizing his thoughts and considering his words.
In the end, he abandoned all thought and asked the girl before him the only question that mattered: "Have I arrived in the City of Law?"
"What else would it be?" The little girl clearly didn't understand Lindsey's situation.
She placed the wooden basin on the small table by the door, dampened a towel in it, and then handed it to Lindsey:
"Big brother, you must have fallen and hit your head. You don't even know where you live, do you?"
"..."
Lindsey looked out the window, skeptical.
With the magic pattern switch, the Atmospheric Sense allowed him to perceive the bustling flow of people on the streets without direct sight, the sounds of prosperity filling his ears.
In this city, although the people looked gaunt and in poor health, there was no doubt that it was not in a state of war, and it maintained a normal level of operation.
He had indeed arrived in the City of Law.
Or perhaps there was still an issue with the time law, and he was not currently on the correct timeline? "Little girl, what year is it now?"
"New Era 3381?" The little girl looked at Lindsey with suspicion. She took the initiative to press the towel to Lindsey's forehead, "Big brother, are you sure you're okay? Do you want me to call a doctor for you?"
Lindsey quickly shook his head in refusal:
"I'm fine, I'm fine! I just felt a bit dizzy when I woke up, but I'll be fine in a moment... I'll be on my way now!"
Lindsey immediately stood up and left the room, but his mind was still a bit dazed.
New Era 3381.
There was no doubt that this was the time when he and Alice had been adventuring in the Dust Path World. After the chaotic time law was smoothed out, he had indeed returned to the correct timeline, but the location was completely different from what he had expected.
"Did I teleport directly to the right place?"
It wasn't difficult to find his way around a regular person's residence.
As Lindsey wandered out of the little girl's home in a daze, his thoughts finally came to a conclusion:
"The issue isn't with time, but with location."
"Alice and I were in the Great Rift World, and because we actively entered the temporal chaos node, when we were thrown back, we didn't successfully arrive in the Dust Path World. Instead, we landed in the City of Law in between."
"What does this mean?"
"It's like jumping off a moving train without a ticket and ending up exactly where you wanted to go."
"Alice isn't here because of this uncertainty in distance. She's likely in this world too?"
"Ah, right!"
Lindsey had reached the door when he remembered what he needed to do.
He had lost consciousness and fallen onto the floor of the City of Law's main street.
Although it might not be a problem, the little girl's father had brought him back to their home, undoubtedly offering him help.
Lindsey immediately turned back:
"Hey, little one!"
The little girl was still tidying up the room Lindsey had just been in: "Why did you come back? I didn't find anything on you. Did you lose something?"
"No, I just wanted to thank you for taking me in last night."
Lindsey smiled and waved at the little girl.
He took out a food item from his bag that could increase an attribute by one point and left it on the table in the living room before leaving through the front door.
Lindsey stepped outside, basking in the sunlight.
He stretched his arms and yawned, then looked around, taking in the even more expansive view.
The City of Law had a triple-layered structure, separated by three walls.
In the very center of the entire city, atop a mountain peak, stood a castle with a pristine tower, like a gleaming sword piercing the clouds.
The brilliance of law and will shone upon it.
Whether inside or outside the city, one could see it with a glance upwards.
As Lindsey's gaze fell upon it, he instantly felt some legal clauses manifesting in his mind.
"Awakened ones must not slaughter civilians within the city." "Life should be respected." "Law Supremacy."
"..."
Lindsey stood on a street in the city, momentarily stunned.
These laws were not just projected through the essence of essence, but they were also a concept and a rule.
While they didn't control people's hearts, they at least held them in this city.
These man-made laws, like gravity, kept people grounded.
Humans could defy gravity and jump, but they would soon be pulled back down by gravity, and if the height was too great, they might even die from the fall.
Swish—
Lindsey wanted to conduct an experiment, and he successfully drew his longsword.
The 'Codex of Human Wisdom' within him seemed to have a subtle reaction to the coverage of these laws.
He directly exempted himself from their interference!
"The three Royal Artifacts of the City of Law."
"Thorns, Codex, and Sword."
"These are not just sources of power but also crucial anchors of the Law Concept's significance!"
Lindsey recalled the past.
Alice had once told him about this city.
The Righteous Ones of the City of Law world, though they fought each other, had mutually agreed to keep the symbolic Royal City out of their wars.
"..."
Lindsey realized the situation within the city.
But he didn't want to stir up trouble, so he immediately sheathed his weapon and started walking towards the direction outside the city.
Beyond the Royal City, the surrounding area was a conventional urban residential zone.
People's homes, businesses, medical facilities, and other activities were all present, forming the true urban center.
Further out, beyond the wall Lindsey had just seen, was a fifteen-meter-high white wall, encompassing vast plains, lakes, and rivers, along with vast fields and farmland. Only a few villages were scattered along the agricultural areas.
In times of war, a city like this could be self-sufficient in terms of supplies, and with Awakened Ones, defense wouldn't be too challenging.
"Sir, do you need help?" Just then, a voice sounded behind Lindsey. He turned to see a robust man in armor approaching him with a serious expression, "I saw you draw your sword just now?"
—It was a Law Guardian.
Lindsey instantly recognized the other's craft.
If someone truly defied the law, these Law Guardians were the ultimate enforcers.
Law Guardians were rare in the outside world, but here, they were the most common Awakened Ones!
The good news was that Lindsey had drawn his sword but immediately sheathed it again.
So, the Law Guardian's view of him wasn't harsh; he merely approached to ask if there was any trouble.
"I'm fine..."
Lindsey was about to refuse but then changed his mind.
Considering his purpose for coming here, a smile appeared on his face, and his question changed:
"Well, if a country bumpkin like me wants to settle in the City of Law, what procedures do I need to go through?"
