Chapter 86: Doing a Good Deed
Chapter 86: Doing a Good Deed (Requesting Recommendations and Favorites)
Liam and Hermione only stopped practicing just before noon. After confirming that no one was outside the door using the Mirror of Revelation, the two of them quickly left the Room of Requirement to head back to their dormitories to freshen up and prepare for lunch.
Here, it's worth praising the location of the Room of Requirement, which is on the same floor as the entrance to the Gryffindor Common Room, the eighth floor. This way, they could quickly return to their rooms after a tiring practice session without having to drag their exhausted bodies up the stairs.
After spending half an hour getting ready, Liam and the others went downstairs to the Great Hall for lunch. As soon as they sat down, they saw a black, furry creature and a shiny, glowing light bulb walking together, with a small figure constantly talking beside them.
As they got closer, Liam realized the black furry creature was Harry, and the one with a shiny, smooth forehead was Ron. The small figure running back and forth was this year's first-year student, Colin Creevey.
"What happened? Why are you all like this?" Liam asked curiously after they sat down.
"You and Hermione were off reading books again, too bad you missed what happened today..." Ron, excited by Liam's question, began to enthusiastically recount his heroic deeds of the day. Liam quickly understood what had happened.
This morning, Harry had gone to Quidditch practice, only to encounter the Slytherin team trying to take over the Quidditch pitch. This led to a conflict between the two teams. Malfoy's use of the term "Mudblood" against Colin completely escalated the tension between the two houses.
Ron successfully hit Malfoy with the Slug-Vomiting Charm, which sparked a spell battle between the two sides. The melee only ended when Professor Mcgonagall, who was on duty, arrived at the Quidditch pitch to stop it.
"Let me tell you, even though we look like this, the Slytherins are in a worse state. Crabbe and Goyle turned purple and grew little tentacles all over their bodies. Malfoy's hair was dyed in all sorts of colors."
Just as Ron was getting excited, Hermione calmly asked, "What punishment did Professor Mcgonagall give you?"
"Gryffindor and Slytherin each lost 150 points. I, Ron, and Slytherin's Malfoy and their Quidditch captain, Marcus Flint, have to stay after class and do labor for a month." Because of the fur covering his face, Harry's voice sounded strange as it came through the hair.
Seeing that Hermione was about to say something, Ron quickly interrupted, "Let's talk about it after lunch. We got up early this morning, spent a long time at the Quidditch pitch, and then got a long lecture from Professor Mcgonagall. I'm starving."
After that, they began to eat. The fur on Harry's face made it difficult for him to eat, as he often ended up putting both fur and food in his mouth, looking quite uncomfortable. Liam asked curiously, "Why don't you go to Madam Pomfrey to get this fixed?"
"We would like to", Ron said, "but Professor Mcgonagall checked us and found no danger, so she wouldn't let us go to the Hospital Wing. She said she wants us to remember that spells shouldn't be used to harm classmates. She only allowed Madam Pomfrey to treat us after tomorrow afternoon. She believes this will help us remember the lesson. But honestly, it's all because the Slytherins started it."
"Right", Hermione suddenly remembered something, "what does 'Mudblood' mean?"
"That's a terrible word", Ron mumbled with a mouth full of sandwich. "It's the most insulting term that some so-called Purebloods use. They use it to refer to wizards whose parents are both Muggles. Purebloods, like the Malfoys, always think their blood is superior. But in reality, most Pureblood families today have a few Muggle relatives. If they only married within their own bloodline, wizards would have gone extinct long ago. I know of several Pureblood families that went extinct because they insisted on blood purity."
"Today you attacked Malfoy. Won't his father come after you?" Liam asked Ron, concerned.
"If he comes after me, his father will lose face. If he goes after my father, well, there have been plenty of such incidents between our families, so one more won't make a difference. But you're right, I should write to my father to let him know."
After finishing their meal, they returned to the Common Room. Liam stopped Harry, who was about to retreat to his dormitory to avoid the attention. "I have a spell that might help with those hairs on your body. I'm not very proficient with it, but are you willing to try?"
"Sure, go ahead. These hairs are causing me a lot of pain and itching, and I can't stand it anymore", Harry said, gripping Liam's hand with excitement.
Liam took out his wand and pointed it at Harry, chanting the Runic symbol Ger, which represents change and the growth cycle. This spell was one of the simpler results of Liam's recent research into Life Magic and Runic Heritage.
As a golden spell shot into Harry's body, the hairs on his body began to grow rapidly. When they reached over two meters in length, they all fell out. Liam saw Harry's hair scattered on the floor, and his clothes bulged from the rapid growth. He quickly told Harry to go to the dormitory to change and clean up.
A few minutes later, Harry and Ron emerged, their bald heads gleaming in unison. Liam had to hold back his laughter.
"Can you make our hair grow back?" Harry asked.
"Unfortunately, I don't know the Hair-Growing Charm", Liam replied, shaking his head. "I just used the spell to trigger the magic in Harry's body, causing the magical effect to burst all at once. This way, Harry's hair won't keep growing indefinitely. However, the spell can only eliminate the magical effect; it can't restore things to their original state. For example, it can't make Ron's hair grow back."
Seeing Harry and Ron look a bit dejected, Liam tried to cheer them up. "At least Harry can eat and use the bathroom more easily now. Besides, using magic repeatedly on your hair can be harmful."
"Harmful?" Ron exclaimed. "But my father said he used to use spells to keep his hair in perfect condition when he was young."
"What about Mr. Weasley now?" Harry asked curiously.
"Uh, I think Liam is right. It's probably better not to use magic to repeatedly alter your hair. It's best to let it be", Ron said, seeming to have had a realization.
In the end, although the situation wasn't handled perfectly, it was resolved smoothly. Liam felt satisfied that he had done a good deed today.
However, he didn't receive any Deviation Points for it. Liam thought this might be because he had already received Deviation Points for changing the world by arriving at Hogwarts in a flying car. Subsequent changes resulting from that initial alteration wouldn't grant him additional Deviation Points.
It seems that to earn Deviation Points, he would need to make a significant impact. Liam thought to himself.
