Chapter 859: Wizards Are Born Noble!
Chapter 859: Wizards Are Born Noble!
Ivan impatiently interrupted Grindelwald. "Are you saying you only lost because of Dumbledore? But I heard the headmaster mention that you were already defeated before he even made a move."
"Perhaps not. If he had chosen to stand by my side, everything would have proceeded according to my plan", Grindelwald said gloomily. "It's precisely because the rebels knew there was another Wizard who could match me that they dared to resist me to the end."
"That can only mean the Wizards who still believe in coexisting equally with Muggles are in the majority", Ivan remarked.
"Equality?" Grindelwald couldn't help but burst into laughter. "That's a lie spun by Muggles! There has never been such a thing in this world."
"Even without Wizards, Muggles always try to use power and wealth to distinguish themselves from others. They even take great pleasure in trampling their own kind underfoot, aspiring to remain forever on top!"
"In the past, these people were called hereditary nobles, and now they are the children of politicians and tycoons... just a different name for the same thing."
"Since there will always be those who are on top, why not let the more suitable, more capable people take that position?"
"Even the elite Muggles, with all their power and wealth, are no different from other Muggles in essence..."
"But Wizards are different!"
Grindelwald's voice grew louder, resonating like a bell at the top of the tower. "We are born with the gift of Magic, allowing us to manipulate and control Muggles at will. This is the right bestowed upon us by the heavens!"
"We are natural rulers, Wizards are born noble!" Grindelwald declared, emphasizing each word.
Listening to Grindelwald, Ivan couldn't help but want to clap. "Impressive. If you went out now and held a large rally in Britain, you'd certainly gain many followers..."
Ivan finally understood why Grindelwald had managed to rally so many followers in Europe decades ago, sparking a wave of fervor.
Just the phrase "Wizards are born noble" was enough to ignite the passion of young, inexperienced Wizards.
"They chose to follow me because I spoke their hearts and did what they had always wanted to do. That's all there is to it", Grindelwald said calmly.
"So you believe Wizards, who possess Magic, are inherently superior and should use Magic as the basis for their rule?" Ivan shook his head. "But even two Wizards can produce a Squib."
"A Squib who cannot cast Magic is equivalent to a Muggle. Conversely, if two Muggles give birth to a Wizard, I welcome him into our ranks with open arms!" Grindelwald explained.
By using the ability to cast Magic as the sole criterion for social status, Grindelwald's ruthlessness exceeded Ivan's expectations. He couldn't help but sneer. "You divide Wizards and Muggles into various classes merely to satisfy your own ambitions and rule the world from a position of power..."
"Both for my own desires and for the future of Wizards and the Wizarding World. I don't see a conflict there", Grindelwald admitted openly. "The class system isn't something I created; it has always existed, whether you acknowledge it or not. I simply ensure that the most suitable people are in the positions they should be."
"Perhaps..." Ivan said noncommittally, mentally distancing himself from Grindelwald.
Initially, he had found Grindelwald's solitary struggle against the entire Wizarding World for change to be quite tragic.
But now, it seemed that Grindelwald was nothing more than an extremely dangerous and ambitious dark lord, a title he truly deserved.
If not for the fact that Grindelwald had been quietly confined to this tower for decades and was now nearing the end of his life due to dark magic, Ivan would have seriously considered eliminating him right there.
"Let's call it a day. Thank you for answering my questions", Ivan said, gently waving his wand to clear away the dinner tray. "Starting tonight, I'll have the house-elf Winky bring you your meals. If you need anything, just let her know, and Winky will try to meet your reasonable requests."
With that, Ivan didn't wait for Grindelwald's response and walked straight toward the door.
Just as Ivan was about to step out, Grindelwald's voice came from behind. "You either stand with your own kind and fight for their interests, or you abandon them. There is no third option."
"Maybe not... Before something is achieved, there are always those who think it's impractical", Ivan replied casually, not turning around. A burst of flame surrounded him, and he vanished on the spot.
...
After returning to Hogwarts from Nurmengard, Ivan immediately summoned Winky and assigned her the task of delivering meals to Grindelwald, along with the responsibility of monitoring his every move.
Grindelwald was undoubtedly a dangerous man. More importantly, Dumbledore seemed to have imposed very few restrictions on him, not even a pair of magic shackles.
Had Grindelwald been obediently staying in Nurmengard for over fifty years purely out of his own will?
Ivan didn't believe that for a moment. From their previous interactions, Grindelwald didn't strike him as a compliant person. The long years of imprisonment had not dulled his ambition, or he wouldn't have tried to sway Ivan with his words.
Or perhaps Grindelwald had made a vow never to leave Nurmengard, binding himself with the power of a magic contract?
Ivan didn't know, but at least this trip to Nurmengard had been a success. He finally understood why Dumbledore could hold out until the end of the year and hadn't come to blows with Grindelwald. That was enough.
After assigning Winky her task, Ivan put the matter aside for the moment and turned his focus to the research of Horcruxes, the primary issue that needed addressing.
With this in mind, Ivan quickly returned to the Gryffindor Common Room, intending to review the books he had retrieved from the Restricted Section.
However, as he was passing through the entrance hall, he ran into Harry, who was in a hurry.
The moment Harry saw Ivan, his eyes lit up, and he grabbed Ivan's arm, panting. "Quick... Ivan, I was just looking for you. I had another dream..."
"What did you dream about?" Ivan was momentarily taken aback but quickly recovered, frowning. "You entered Voldemort's mind again?"
