Chapter 859: Back to the Fire Dragon Sanctuary
Chapter 859: Back to the Fire Dragon Sanctuary
After a long wait, the magical bond finally met the activation conditions, emitting a dazzling silver-white light, and the once blurry pattern became much clearer.
Newt looked at the parchment with a sense of emotion.
"From now on, even if someone sees Norbert, it won't cause you any trouble."
To be honest, he was a bit envious.
Although everyone now knows that Newt Scamander is one of the top magical creature experts in the wizarding world, he has never obtained a legal dragon ownership certificate.
Perhaps it was because his reputation in his youth was too loud, and the people at the Fire Dragon Sanctuary didn't dare to give him such a certificate.
As for the Hungarian Horntail in his case, it was merely tolerated by the sanctuary... I don't agree, but I won't investigate. You can keep it, and we all understand the situation.
This way, even if the Hungarian Horntail were to escape and frolic in the skies above London, they could find excuses to brush it off.
After all, it's Newt; such concerns are quite necessary.
Strictly speaking, Newt was actually raising a dragon illegally and could only keep it in his case.
Unlike Kyle.
From now on, even if Kyle were to build a fence around his house, he could release the dragon directly.
Even if Muggles saw it, it would be a matter for the Department of Accidental Magic Reversal, and he couldn't be punished for illegal dragon ownership.
"But just raising it is fine; if you let the dragon harm people, that's a different story."
"Are we going to Romania now?" Kyle couldn't help but ask... Besides the dragon eggs, he also had a large amount of Galleons waiting to be collected.
"There's no rush. We're still waiting for someone," Newt said.
"Who are we waiting for?"
"Of course, it's... Oh, he's already here." Newt said, looking out the window.
Kyle turned his head instinctively.
"Professor Dumbledore?"
He never expected that Dumbledore, who seemed to have vanished these past few days, would appear here.
Dumbledore pushed open the door and walked in.
Kyle looked at him and felt that something was different, as if he had become a different person.
The previous Dumbledore always had a calm and composed demeanor... One look, and you could tell he was a standard powerful old wizard and a reliable Hogwarts headmaster.
But now, he seemed much more relaxed, even his robes had been changed to a more comfortable and casual style. If he were holding a teacup, he would look like a retired old man.
If someone who didn't know him saw him, they probably wouldn't associate him with the famous Hogwarts headmaster.
"Newt, Kyle, long time no see," he greeted with a smile and sat down, taking a lemon biscuit from the plate and popping it into his mouth.
This sense of relaxation completely overturned Kyle's impression of Dumbledore.
So, this is the Dumbledore who has resolved his inner conflicts?
"It tastes good," Dumbledore surveyed the room, "Where's Tina?"
"She's at Ilvermorny," Newt replied, "Are... Are you sure you're okay?"
He also felt that the Dumbledore before him seemed a bit off... Not exactly off, but it didn't quite match the image he had in mind.
"Of course, I'm fine," Dumbledore smiled, "Ariana said I was too uptight and should relax a bit."
"I think she's right," Dumbledore took another biscuit, "I'm over a hundred years old; it's time I enjoyed my retirement."
Ariana, huh... Well, that settles it.
Kyle muttered to himself.
He felt that if Ariana said Hogwarts would look better in pink, Dumbledore would be running with paint to redecorate the school the next day...
Maybe he wouldn't even wait until the next day.
"So, the person we're waiting for is Professor Dumbledore?" Kyle turned to Newt and asked.
"If you're going to Romania, then it's me," Newt hadn't finished speaking when Dumbledore nodded, "You mentioned you'd come to find me. Considering the time, your bond should be close to activation, so I wrote him a letter in advance, asking him to notify me before going to Romania."
"You're coming too? Is that really necessary?" Kyle looked at the two people beside him, feeling a bit confused.
He's just going to get two dragon eggs; is it necessary to make such a big deal? The last time Dumbledore and Newt Scamander worked together was to deal with Grindelwald.
"Ariana thinks I should get out more and complete the world tour plan I had after graduation," Dumbledore said.
"Although the timing isn't ideal now, I think starting with Romania is a good idea."
Okay, Ariana again.
Kyle closed his mouth, and that settled it.
"Are we leaving now?" Kyle glanced out the window.
It wasn't even noon yet, and if everything went smoothly, they should be able to return before evening.
"If you're ready, let's go," Dumbledore said.
The three of them stood up and went to the door.
"Dobby, you're in charge of the house now."
(End of Chapter 859)
"Mr. Scamander glanced back at the house-elf following him.
'Don't worry, sir,' Dobby said, standing tall.
'It's been a while,' Newt said, turning to Dumbledore, 'I remember the last time I worked with you, Professor, was fifty years ago.'
'To be precise, fifty-seven years ago,' Dumbledore smiled, 'those two Mistwing Moths that escaped from your case caused quite a stir in Columbia.'
Mistwing Moths are fist-sized insects that emit a mist charm while flying and change colors to blend with their surroundings. They typically inhabit primeval forests.
But when they appear in cities, it's a different story.
Imagine, if you will, the expressions on Muggles' faces upon seeing a floating, colorful mist in broad daylight over fifty years ago.
To erase those Muggles' memories, the Columbia Ministry of Magic worked around the clock for a week, generating more resentment than the Muteness.
'It was just one,' Newt corrected, stammering, 'and it escaped because it sensed the presence of its mother moth.'
Dumbledore raised an eyebrow, remaining silent.
This was Newt's magic—he never intentionally released the creatures from his case, but they always found a way out for various reasons.
No wonder he wasn't popular.
When Newt decided to retire, Dumbledore had to pull some strings with the Minister of Magic to allow him to settle in Dorsetshire.
'Let's go,' Dumbledore said, casually turning a twig into a Portkey.
Kyle and Newt approached and grasped the twig.
'Ready, here we go...'
As Dumbledore finished speaking, the three of them were pulled into a swirling vortex and disappeared.
In the midst of the spinning, Kyle quickly found himself back on solid ground.
'Who are you?'
A stern voice rang in his ear, and several robust Dragon Keepers surrounded them, wands drawn.
But in the next moment...
'Mr. Scamander!'
'Headmaster Dumbledore!'
The lead Dragon Keeper quickly lowered his wand, 'My apologies, I didn't recognize you two at first.'
'No need for apologies, I should've informed you beforehand,' Newt shook his head, 'Is Dorels here? I have something to discuss with him.'
'He's inside, in the Hatching Chamber, observing a clutch of dragon eggs about to hatch.' The Dragon Keeper said, 'Follow me, he'll be delighted to see you.'
It was normal for him to ignore Kyle, as he had done.
Kyle's visit was long ago, and Charlie had been his guide then.
Now, Charlie had returned to the United Kingdom, and these Dragon Keepers naturally wouldn't recognize the young assistant who once followed Newt.
But Kyle didn't mind; he was more intrigued by what the Dragon Keeper had said.
Hatching Chamber, dragon eggs about to hatch... It seemed he had arrived at the perfect time.
The Dragon Keepers led them through the sanctuary, navigating at least three checkpoints, before stopping in front of a massive cave.
From a distance, Kyle felt a wave of heat, and now it was like standing at the mouth of an erupting volcano.
'This is the Hatching Chamber,' Newt explained, 'All fire dragons incubating eggs are brought here to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands.'
'Indeed,' the Dragon Keeper acknowledged Kyle's presence, 'Additionally, it prevents the eggs from being accidentally crushed by other fire dragons. Those big fellows have quite the temper and fight almost daily.'
'How many dragon eggs are there here?' Kyle asked curiously.
The Dragon Keeper hesitated, seemingly reluctant to share the information. He glanced at Dumbledore and Newt before continuing, 'Currently, there are only two clutches of eggs. There were three, but the remaining Hungarian Horntails are highly aggressive, and we haven't figured out how to relocate them.'
'I doubt any dragon would dare to provoke the Hungarian Horntails,' Newt chuckled.
'The Captain thinks so too.'
As they spoke, the sound of approaching footsteps echoed from the cave, and soon, Dorels emerged.
'Captain!'
'Yes, you've worked hard. Go ahead, I'll take care of this,' Dorels said.
He appeared thinner than Kyle had imagined, not as robust as Charlie, but the scars on his body were no less, especially the long scar on his left cheek, giving him a menacing appearance.
'Delighted to see you both,' Dorels said, 'Mr. Scamander, Mr. Dumbledore, and Kyle, you've grown quite a bit since the last time I saw you.'
'You remember me?' Kyle asked.
'I remember everyone who has ever helped the Fire Dragon Sanctuary, including you,' Dorels replied.
He turned back to Newt and Dumbledore, his expression turning serious, 'Forgive my rudeness, but may I ask why you've suddenly visited the Fire Dragon Sanctuary?'
(Chapter End)
According to my knowledge, the United Kingdom seems to be in the midst of significant trouble.
"If you've come here seeking assistance from the Fire Dragon Sanctuary, I must apologize in advance."
"No, Dorels, you've misunderstood," Dumbledore said earnestly. "Rest assured, we'll handle these troubles ourselves, and they won't affect the Sanctuary."
"I'm sorry, Headmaster Dumbledore," Dorels said, "I just don't want dragons to become tools of war."
"I also don't want to see dragons on the battlefield," Dumbledore agreed wholeheartedly.
He was relieved that the dragons had been secured, and with dozens of dragons and numerous dragon keepers, even Voldemort wouldn't dare to provoke them easily. If he had recruited giants, he would never have spared the dragons as instruments of war.
"In that case, let's change locations. This place isn't ideal for a chat." Dorels wiped the sweat from his forehead. Although he often worked in such high-temperature environments, it didn't mean he enjoyed conversing in such places.
He led the three of them to an office not far away... It was more of a stone-built house, just better insulated.
Dorels entered, took a big gulp of water, and then turned to ask, "What brings you here?"
"Nothing much," Newt said, turning to push Kyle forward. "He has this invoice for the Fire Dragon Sanctuary."
"An invoice?" Dorels asked, perplexed.
He didn't recall the Sanctuary owing anyone money.
If someone else had made such a statement, he would have walked away without saying a word, but since it was Newt Scamander, it was different...
As one of the most important guests and partners of the Sanctuary, Newt's contributions were no less than anyone else's, and they respected him as well.
Not to mention that Headmaster Dumbledore was also present.
So, even though it seemed impossible, Dorels still looked at Kyle seriously and said, "May I see it?"
"Of course," Kyle nodded and handed over a piece of parchment.
When Dorels saw the parchment for the first time, he was stunned.
It was genuine, and he was very familiar with the magical bond on it, unique to the Sanctuary, and that signature...
Berdman Strike, the first director of the Sanctuary.
Dorels quickly took the parchment and examined it carefully, his expression constantly changing.
From perplexity to shock, and then to disbelief...
"This is... a donation certificate?" He suddenly raised his head, his voice slightly trembling, "Merlin's beard, are you the mysterious benefactor?"
He shook his head again, "No, no, the ages don't match up. The Sanctuary received this donation a hundred years ago, but you're not even twenty years old yet. If I'm not mistaken, this must be something from your family's past."
"Is there a problem?" Kyle asked, not denying this point. Even if he explained, Dorels probably wouldn't believe him.
"Of course not," Dorels shook his head, looking serious. "In fact, we've been searching for this person. Their contribution to the Sanctuary is immeasurable, but I find it strange that there's only Mr. Berdman's signature on this."
"It might have been the custom back then," Kyle said, "after all, magical bonds can't be faked, right?"
This wasn't a custom but Kyle's requirement; after all, it was 1899, and he couldn't have signed his own name.
At the time, Berdman didn't understand his request, but since Kyle didn't mind, he naturally didn't care either, as he was eager to receive the donation.
"That's not wrong," Dorels returned the parchment to Kyle. "If I'm not mistaken, you've come to claim the rightful proceeds."
"That's right," Kyle nodded. "Is it possible?"
"Of course it is," Dorels suddenly laughed. "We've been waiting for nearly a hundred years. However, since no one has claimed it, the money has been deposited in Gringotts' vault."
"How much is it?" Kyle asked curiously.
"Six thousand three hundred and fifty Galleons," Dorels said.
Kyle raised his eyebrows, indicating that his proceeds had increased as the Sanctuary developed.
Six thousand Galleons?
Of course, it was a lot. Even the Ministry's office director would have to save up for six years if they put all their salary into savings.
But from another perspective, this amount wasn't that significant. For example, in terms of purchasing power, three thousand Galleons a hundred years ago would be worth at least twenty thousand now.
Of course, this calculation didn't apply to Kyle; overall, he had made a profit.
Even Dumbledore, who had been involved in everything, was a bit surprised.
Wow, three thousand Galleons had doubled in the blink of an eye. This money came faster than robbing Gringotts. Why didn't he think of it before?
What, amnesia?
Alright, never mind.
