Chapter 851: Wisdom-Enhancing Magic
Chapter 851: Wisdom-Enhancing Magic
“After that, my mother fell ill, very ill. Even though I had done unfilial and unrighteous things, she still desperately wanted to see me one last time, so she sent Barrow to find me. But… but… it didn’t go well.”
Helena’s eyes were filled with pain and regret, and she couldn’t continue. However, Ivan already knew what happened next.
Baron failed to bring back the rebellious Helena and, out of jealousy for her freedom, stabbed her in a fit of rage.
Realizing the gravity of his mistake, Barrow also took his own life in remorse.
In a sense, Helena’s tragic end was partly her own doing, and it led to Rowena Ravenclaw’s deep depression…
But Ivan would never say such things aloud, knowing it would only make Helena even more upset.
“Actually, Lady Rowena always regretted being too focused on her research and neglecting your feelings.” Ivan hesitated for a moment before offering his words of comfort.
Helena’s pained expression softened, and she tilted her head, looking at Ivan with confusion.
“I went to that laboratory and saw a prominent stone tablet at the entrance. It had a phrase carved on it…” Ivan began, but Helena interrupted him, finishing the sentence.
“Exceptional wisdom is the greatest wealth of humanity.”
“That was my mother’s favorite saying. She always favored intelligent people, and unfortunately, my behavior often disappointed her…” Helena’s words carried a hint of resentment.
“Do you really believe that? When I went to the laboratory, the stone tablet had been destroyed. It was probably Lady Rowena who did it!” Ivan said calmly.
Helena was taken aback.
Ivan continued, looking at her intently. “I think your departure made her realize that she once had something more important than wisdom… family!”
Helena’s body trembled violently, her eyes brimming with tears. She covered her mouth with her hand, trying to stifle the sobs that threatened to escape. Tears trickled down her cheeks, but before they could hit the ground, they transformed into points of Lumos and dissipated into the air.
Ivan, understandingly, turned away and pretended to look out the window, giving Helena the space to release her pent-up emotions.
After what seemed like an eternity, the low sobs gradually subsided.
Helena wiped the tears from her eyes, murmuring to herself. “If only we had both realized this sooner, perhaps… perhaps things wouldn’t have turned out so badly…”
“People often only realize what’s truly important after they’ve lost it,” Ivan said.
Helena sighed and nodded, then looked deeply at the Crown, saying with a sense of loss, “Take it with you.”
“Don’t you want to keep it?” Ivan asked, surprised. He could see how much the Crown meant to Helena, and when he brought out Ravenclaw’s Diadem, he had been prepared to return it to her.
“No, it has no meaning for me now.” Helena smiled bitterly. As a ghost, she couldn’t even lift the Crown.
Ivan didn’t press the issue, fearing that if he did, Helena might change her mind.
“Then how should I use it? Just wear it like this?” Ivan fiddled with the ornate Crown, asking. He had tried various methods before, but none of them had produced any response.
“You’re still missing the activation Spell,” Helena laughed, floating over to Ivan and lightly placing her palm above the Crown. She slowly recited something under her breath.
Ivan clearly saw the inscription on the inside of the Crown light up, and then the entire Crown glowed with a faint blue Lumos.
This unusual phenomenon lasted only a moment before vanishing, but Ivan could feel that the Crown in his hand was different now.
He had already guessed that the activation Spell was the phrase “Exceptional Wisdom is the greatest wealth of humanity,” but it had to be spoken in the ancient language of Britain from a thousand years ago. No wonder his attempts had been fruitless.
On the bright side, since he hadn’t discovered this, the young Voldemort probably didn’t have the capability either. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have wasted such a valuable item by using it as a material for a Horcrux.
“Now you can try it on,” Helena withdrew her hand, encouraging him.
With Helena’s confirmation, Ivan eagerly placed the Crown on his head. He was genuinely curious whether it was as miraculous as the rumors suggested, making a person incredibly smart just by wearing it.
However, the moment he put on the Crown, Ivan’s expression froze, his face filled with shock and disbelief.
Helena found Ivan’s reaction puzzling but didn’t give it much thought. She smiled and asked, “How is it? Surprised? Do you feel a lot smarter?”
“Yes, I am surprised…” Ivan regained his composure, murmuring as he gently took off the Crown and gazed at it, his eyes reflecting deep thought.
Ravenclaw’s Crown indeed enhanced his Wisdom, but the significant boost in his thinking speed and comprehension felt incredibly familiar to him.
It was very similar to the enhancement he experienced when he activated his Scholar Experience Card, though not as potent.
This realization greatly surprised Ivan. Could it be that every time he used the experience card, the System also enhanced his mental capabilities through some form of Alchemy?
Just like this Crown?
What about the Protection Mode? Could it also be a magical effect?
A myriad of thoughts raced through his mind. Ivan felt he was incredibly close to the truth, but he wasn’t entirely confident in his hypothesis.
“Hals… Hals, are you okay?” Helena noticed Ivan standing there, holding the Crown as if in a trance, and waved her hand in front of his eyes.
“No, nothing’s wrong. I’m just a bit surprised,” Ivan clutched the Crown in his hand, reflecting. “No wonder Rowena Ravenclaw was called the most wise person in the Wizarding World back then.”
From the information he had gathered, Rowena Ravenclaw was already an exceptionally intelligent Witch. Adding the magical Crown, which provided constant mental enhancement, made the title of “most wise” well-deserved.
