Chapter 850: The Crown of Enhance Wisdom
Chapter 850: The Crown of Enhance Wisdom
Perhaps Helena Ravenclaw would know something...
Ivan thought of the Spectral Lady he hadn't seen in a long time. He had been busy dealing with Ministry of Magic matters and almost forgot about her. It seemed necessary to meet Helena again.
...
Late at night, in the Ravenclaw Tower, an owl quietly slipped through the open window and transformed back into human form upon landing.
Ivan looked around and soon found the Spectral Lady's figure in front of Rowena Ravenclaw's white marble bust.
Helena clearly noticed Ivan's arrival but pretended not to see him, floating away down the corridor.
Ivan furrowed his brow, feeling a bit strange, but he followed her quickly, calling out, "Good evening, Lady Helena!"
The ethereal ghost reluctantly stopped, turned her head, and gave Ivan a listless glance. "Good evening, Hals. It's been almost a year since we last met. I didn't expect you to come looking for me... Do you have more questions to ask?"
Ivan rubbed his nose, feeling a bit like a wayward husband facing his ex-wife.
Fortunately, from Helena's few words, Ivan understood the reason for her cold attitude and his face showed a hint of regret.
"I'm sorry, Lady Helena. A lot has happened at Hogwarts recently, and it has taken up most of my time... But I also wanted to give you a surprise!" Ivan said, pulling out a white-gold crown studded with exquisite blue sapphires.
Helena's eyes were immediately drawn to it. She slowly floated to Ivan's side, mesmerized by the crown in his hands, her eyes filled with nostalgia and sorrow. She gently reached out, as if trying to lift the crown, but her arm passed right through it.
At that moment, Helena remembered she was a ghost and couldn't touch anything in the real world.
She sighed softly but also noticed that the crown didn't seem as damaged as Ivan had previously mentioned.
"You've repaired it?" Helena asked, somewhat surprised.
"Yes, that's why it took me so long to come see you..." Ivan nodded and began to explain to Helena the various attempts he had made to repair the crown, the numerous failures, and how he eventually found the solution in Ravenclaw's Laboratory.
"Three years ago, I accidentally broke it, so I always wanted to fix it and return it to you. I just didn't expect it to take so long", Ivan said, shrugging with a hint of frustration.
"I see... I didn't know... I thought..." Helena mumbled, looking a bit embarrassed.
"You thought I was like Tom Riddle?" Ivan asked with a smile.
"It seems I misunderstood you..." Helena's cold expression softened, and her cheeks turned a light pink.
Upon learning that Ivan had spent nearly a year trying to repair her mother's crown to fulfill her wish, Helena's accumulated anger and resentment vanished.
She didn't doubt Ivan's words, as she had also asked Ravenclaw students about the events of three years ago, and their accounts matched what Ivan had told her.
Furthermore, since Ivan had previously consulted Helena about Alchemy, she was well aware of the exceptional skills this young wizard possessed in the field. Repairing her mother’s Crown was not an impossible task for him.
"Thank you so much, Hals. You’ve fulfilled one of my deepest wishes", Helena said gratefully.
"Since I promised to bring it to you, I had to make good on that promise. Besides, you’ve helped me before by sharing many secrets of this castle, haven’t you?" Ivan replied, raising an eyebrow.
Helena smiled softly, her ethereal form looking radiant under the moonlight.
"You should smile more often; it’s much more appealing than your usual cold demeanor", Ivan teased.
Helena paused, her smile fading slightly as she replied with a gentle scold, "You should save those words for the young girls who are still alive..."
Ivan shrugged noncommittally. Seeing that Helena was in a good mood, he decided to bring up the matter at hand. "By the way, Helena, I’ve heard that your mother’s Crown of Wisdom can enhance a person’s wisdom. Is that true?"
"Of course it’s true. I stole it to become smarter than my mother", Helena sighed.
"And did you succeed?" Ivan didn’t rush to ask about the usage of the Ravenclaw Crown but was curious to know the outcome.
Honestly, he found it hard to imagine that a single magical item could make someone incredibly wise...
"I succeeded, but perhaps I also failed..." Helena slowly drifted to the bust of Ravenclaw, gazing at it for a long time before speaking again. "You’ve been to the laboratory in the Room of Requirement, haven’t you?"
Ivan nodded, though he was puzzled by the spectral lady’s sudden mention of it.
Helena ignored his confusion and continued on her own.
"My mother, Rowena, was an incredibly intelligent witch. No... she was the smartest person in the Wizarding World at the time."
"Her vast wisdom made her captivated by the wonders of magic, driving her to explore its mysteries... and she even created the Crown of Wisdom to make people even smarter..."
Helena spoke softly, recounting the past. As Rowena Ravenclaw’s daughter, she had been born under the weight of immense expectations.
Unfortunately, compared to her prodigious mother, her talent was merely that of an ordinary genius, and no matter how hard she tried, she could never match her mother’s level.
Perhaps disappointed by her performance, Rowena devoted most of her energy to her magical research as Helena grew older, spending less and less time with her.
This made the young Helena feel both angry and envious of her mother’s unparalleled wisdom, which always earned her praise wherever she went.
"At the time, I stubbornly believed that if I could become smarter and more renowned than my mother, she might be willing to pay more attention to me..." Helena whispered.
"So you stole the Crown?" Ivan asked.
Helena nodded gently, then turned to look at the Crown of Wisdom in Ivan’s hand. "When I put on this Crown, I realized I was wrong, terribly wrong. But I wasn’t willing to admit it to my mother. I wanted to prove to her that what she could do, I could do as well..."
