Chapter 85: Task Delegation Authority
Chapter 85: Task Delegation Authority
"Interdimensional Adventurers?" The princess frowned slightly. "Most of you are only at the Zero Rank, right? What use could you be?"
"Of course, we have our uses," Su Yu said with a smile, holding his teacup. "The biggest advantage of Interdimensional Adventurers is that we are numerous and unafraid of death. As you know, when someone is fearless and determined to fight, they can unleash incredible combat power. I can provide you with at least a thousand such warriors!"
The princess was taken aback. "A thousand?! Fearless warriors can indeed unleash great combat power. But recruiting such warriors costs a lot of money, and the imperial treasury is currently in dire straits. We might not have the funds to recruit so many."
The princess was still thinking from the perspective of the locals, unaware that players could be easily swayed with small favors.
Su Yu placed his teacup on the table, stood up, and bowed slightly to the princess. "No money is needed. I will cover the expenses for recruiting these warriors. You won't have to bear any costs! Of course, there is one condition."
"Condition?"
"The condition is that you must trust me and delegate this task to me," Su Yu said solemnly.
The princess fell silent, deep in thought.
Recruiting interdimensional adventurers made sense, as it seemed to be a way for the Chosen One to protect his fellow adventurers.
Now, he was even offering to cover the costs?
What were they up to? Working for free?
What was the Chosen One really after?
The princess was unsure, so she looked at the blue and white kitten in her arms.
The kitten understood their conversation and nodded at the princess.
Seeing the kitten nod, the princess felt reassured. "Very well, Chosen One. I agree to delegate this task to you. I hope you can give me a satisfactory result."
"Thank you, Your Highness!" Su Yu replied respectfully.
Beep! You have gained the trust of Princess Alyssa. Congratulations, you have obtained the [Task Delegation Authority] from the Princess.
[Task Delegation Authority]: You can issue tasks on behalf of this NPC. If players complete the tasks, you will receive 1% of the task rewards, including experience and Psychic Coins, as compensation. (Note: The tasks you issue must be approved by the NPC.)
"I didn't expect it to be so easy!" Su Yu's lips curled into a smile.
In the past, players had a fixed mindset that tasks were always issued by NPCs, and they just needed to accept, complete, and receive rewards.
But Evolution was different.
This was an extraordinary game where anything was possible.
In the game, players could even issue tasks to other players on behalf of NPCs!
This hidden feature was only discovered by players in the fifth expansion pack of the previous world.
However, when it was first discovered, it didn't cause much of a stir.
Gaining an NPC's trust was difficult, and each NPC had different reward limits.
For example, ordinary NPCs on the street wouldn't offer much benefit even if tasks were issued on their behalf, as the player would only receive 1% of the rewards.
But a top-tier NPC like Princess Alyssa was different!
The princess could issue large-scale tasks involving thousands or even tens of thousands of players. Only by issuing such tasks could players reap significant benefits due to the sheer number of participants.
"Your Highness, I'll take my leave for now! I will personally escort you to Maple Leaf City in a week!" Su Yu smiled as he bid farewell to the princess.
"Thank you for your efforts," the princess said, standing up. "Keldron, see the Chosen One out."
"Of course, Your Highness!" Keldron, standing beside her, quickly knelt to accept the order.
……
After Kesheng left, the princess sat back down and looked at the blue and white kitten in her arms. "Morning Star, do you know why Kesheng did that? I can't make heads or tails of it."
"I don't understand either," the kitten replied with a melodious female voice. "But don't worry, I can tell he means you no harm. Even if he did, a first-tier mage wouldn't be much of a threat."
"I hope you're right."
The princess stared into the distance, watching Su Yu walk away, her gaze lingering.
The blue and white kitten, named Morning Star, also gazed in the direction Su Yu had gone, a spark of curiosity in its eyes.
What an interesting human!
Leaving the palace, Su Yu walked down the streets outside. He opened his quest panel.
A new module, "Commission Task Posting," had appeared in the quest panel.
He clicked on it and saw that the only task he could currently post for the princess was the "Giant Tree Canyon Ambush."
"Giant Tree Canyon" was the place where the princess encountered danger on her way to Maple City.
In the broader storyline, the rebel leader, Duke Anzu Seifer, agreed to negotiate with the princess in Maple City. However, the rebels were not a unified force. A faction led by Duke Randilus disagreed with the negotiations.
Thus, Duke Randilus sent his men to impersonate bandits and attack the princess's convoy, hoping to derail the talks.
The ambush took place in Giant Tree Canyon, giving the task its name.
Su Yu scanned the details of the task.
The "Giant Tree Canyon Ambush" could involve up to 1,000 players. Each player who successfully completed the task would receive the following rewards: 1,000 experience points, 30 Psychic Coins, and a random level 10 green item suitable for their class.
It was a scene-based task that would take about half an hour to complete, and the rewards were quite generous.
Behind the task rewards, there were "+" and "-" buttons. Su Yu, now possessing some NPC authority, could increase or decrease the value of a reward, but to prevent cheating, the total value of the rewards had to remain constant.
For example, if he removed the "level 10 green item" reward, the experience points would increase to 2,000, and the Psychic Coins would rise to 60.
Su Yu had promised the princess that he would cover all the expenses for this battle. If the task were set as is, he would have to pay 60,000 Psychic Coins (60 x 1,000 players).
Su Yu wasn't that generous.
He clicked the "-" button next to the Psychic Coins and reduced the reward to the minimum value—10 Psychic Coins.
With the Psychic Coins reward lowered, the experience points reward increased again.
In the end, the rewards for the "Giant Tree Canyon Ambush" task were set to: 3,000 experience points and 10 Psychic Coins.
This meant that if Su Yu recruited 1,000 players to complete the task, he would earn 1% of the total experience, which would be 30,000 experience points—enough for him to level up!
The 9,900 Psychic Coins he would lose by posting the task were a trivial amount for the wealthy Su Yu.
"Let's set the task this way. I just hope everyone levels up quickly, and we don't fall short of the 1,000 players needed for the task tomorrow!"
"No, I need to promote this. I have to get the players excited about leveling up."
With that thought, Su Yu headed toward the level 15 dungeon, "Spider Cave," outside Golden Sparrow City.
He planned to clear the dungeon for the first time and use the "megaphone" to announce the task to all players.
