Chapter 85: Stop Your Reckless Thoughts, Owls Are the Best Friends of Wizards!
Chapter 85: Stop Your Reckless Thoughts, Owls Are the Best Friends of Wizards!
When the transformation began, Professor Mcgonagall was shocked. With her keen eye, she could easily see what Ivan was doing.
About a minute later, a Owl with snow-white feathers appeared before the two, cooing twice and curiously looking around.
However, Ivan exhaled slowly and said with disappointment, "What a pity."
Ivan was very disappointed. Although the transformed Owl looked exactly like a real one, this transformation was only temporary and could last at most a bit longer. He still couldn't change its essence in the end.
This was clearly his closest attempt to success.
*Ping, after your relentless practice, your Transfiguration proficiency has slightly increased.*
The notification of increased Transfiguration Spell proficiency sounded in his mind, providing some comfort to Ivan.
"There's nothing to be pitied. You've already far exceeded my expectations", Professor Mcgonagall finally came to her senses.
She felt that even Dumbledore couldn't have achieved what Ivan did in his first year.
However, after praising him, Professor Mcgonagall frowned and asked, "What were you doing, using your magic to analyze your own body? I almost thought you were attempting a dangerous Animagus transformation! Fortunately, you didn't go any further, or I would have interrupted the process."
"Is this how Animagus transformations are practiced?" Ivan's eyes lit up. He felt he had found a way to quickly improve his Transfiguration Spell.
If he could learn Animagus, his Transfiguration Spell skills should improve significantly.
Professor Mcgonagall was speechless. She regretted her slip of the tongue but, since she had already said it, she continued to warn him, "Animagus is an extremely advanced form of Transfiguration. You should not attempt it alone, as the consequences of failure are unimaginable!"
"If you are really interested, when you return next semester, I can give you some guidance." Here, Professor Mcgonagall hesitated. She wasn't sure if she should let Ivan learn such advanced Transfiguration so early.
But she knew he wouldn't be deterred by mere warnings. It was better to teach him herself than let him experiment secretly.
Ivan readily agreed. If someone was willing to teach him, he wouldn't be foolish enough to try it alone. After all, an Animagus transformation involved his own body. What if he made a mistake?
In Hogwarts School, apart from Dumbledore, whom he didn't want to interact with much, the person with the highest Transfiguration skills was Professor Mcgonagall.
"Since you agree, let's make a deal. Before next semester, you must not attempt to analyze your body with magic again", Professor Mcgonagall warned.
"Can I analyze other living things then?" Ivan knew that to further improve his Transfiguration Spell proficiency, regular books were no longer useful. Only advanced biological transformations like this could help.
Thinking of this, Ivan looked at the Owl he had transformed and considered using Maca from his dormitory.
Professor Mcgonagall could see through his intentions and said irritably, "A Owl is a Wizard's best friend. No Wizard would harm their own Owl casually."
"Also, no cats", Professor Mcgonagall added. "Perhaps you can try a Toad or a Rat."
Are they not also friends of Wizards?
Ivan opened his mouth to complain,
Professor, this is species discrimination!
Ron and Neville would cry.
Ivan ultimately held back his complaint because he was quickly escorted out by Professor Mcgonagall. The reason was that if he stayed any longer, the others wouldn't need to take the exam.
Before leaving, Professor Mcgonagall felt she shouldn't let Ivan get too complacent, so she gave him a reminder.
"Make sure to review your textbooks at home and read more. I will test you again when you return. If you don't meet the standards, don't blame me for breaking our deal."
Ivan nodded; he wouldn't let a bit of skill make him arrogant.
Previously, when dealing with Voldemort's remnants, Ivan had already realized his own weakness. Even when the enemy was severely weakened, he still needed to rely on the protective magic within Harry to win the battle.
Facing the true Dark Lord, he would likely have no means of resistance.
So Ivan had already made up his mind to use the long holiday after leaving school to the fullest, not wasting a single day!
However, young Wizards can't cast spells outside of school,
Thinking of this, Ivan felt a headache. He remembered that in the original story, every wand sold at Ollivanders Shop had a Trace, allowing the Ministry of Magic to easily detect if the wand was being used until the young Wizards graduated from Hogwarts, at which point the Trace would disappear.
This meant that unless he found a way to get an adult Wizard's wand, he would have to spend the entire summer reading books in his room.
After all, the Ministry of Magic's regulations on this were extremely strict. If a young Wizard was found casting spells outside of school, the first time they would receive a warning, the second time they would be expelled, and the third time their wand would be broken!
Not everyone was the famous Harry Potter, and Ivan didn't think he would have any special exemptions.
Feeling dejected, Ivan walked out of the classroom. Harry and the others, who had been waiting outside for a long time, thought he had failed the exam.
"Ivan, it's okay to have an off day. We all know you're good at Transfiguration Spells", Hermione consoled him.
Harry and Ron nodded in agreement.
"An off day? No, Professor Mcgonagall gave me the highest score on the spot", Ivan said, waving his hand. He knew they had misunderstood.
"Then why do you look so unhappy?" Harry asked, puzzled. Moreover, Ivan had been inside for so long, so he should have finished quickly.
"It's just that Professor Mcgonagall gave me a pop quiz, and I didn't pass", Ivan said dismissively. He couldn't tell them he was trying to find a way to exploit the Ministry of Magic's rules so he could cast spells outside of school.
"Harry Potter!"
Harry was about to ask what kind of pop quiz it was when Professor Mcgonagall's voice rang out from the classroom. He had to go in for his exam.
Pushing the door open and entering the classroom, Harry immediately saw a snow-white Owl on the table to the right, with a few round buttons underneath.
Harry was puzzled as to why Professor Mcgonagall would bring an Owl to the exam room. Suddenly, he remembered the "pop quiz" Ivan had mentioned.
He had heard from the young Wizards who had already taken the exam that the right side was the display area for excellent exam works, which Professor Mcgonagall used to add a bit of pressure to the new candidates, as well as serve as a model and guide.
But looking at the Owl, Harry swallowed hard. He thought the pressure was a bit too much this time.
