Chapter 849: I Won't Teach Defense Against the Dark Arts No Matter What
Chapter 849: I Won't Teach Defense Against the Dark Arts No Matter What
Hermione was also taken aback by Ivan’s words, but she could not refute them. Professor Mcgonagall had once mentioned that Ivan’s magical abilities were already advanced enough for him to graduate from Hogwarts. The O.W.L. exams might not pose much of a challenge for him.
However, this also meant that Ivan would be leaving Hogwarts next year. Thinking about this, Hermione’s mood turned somber. Although her grades were quite good, she had no confidence in passing the N.E.W.T. exams with flying colors and advancing to the next level.
Ivan naturally noticed her change in demeanor and chuckled, offering some comforting words. "Just because I won’t be a student doesn’t mean I won’t be around Hogwarts anymore..."
"Are you planning to come back and teach after you graduate?" Hermione immediately guessed his thoughts and, after considering the vacant positions, tentatively suggested, "Defense Against the Dark Arts?!"
"No, no, no! I won’t teach that subject no matter what!" Ivan was taken aback and quickly interrupted.
He wasn’t ready to die yet!
Over the past five years, Ivan had witnessed the terror of Voldemort’s curse. Those who had taught Defense Against the Dark Arts always seemed to run into bad luck for various reasons. To date, only Lupin had managed to leave the position relatively unscathed.
And even Lupin hadn’t completed a full year, choosing to resign at the end of the term due to certain circumstances.
Despite his confidence in his own abilities, Ivan wasn’t about to risk his life!
Hermione stuck out her tongue, clearly also recalling the curse associated with the Defense Against the Dark Arts position from Ivan’s startled reaction.
However, apart from the vacant Defense Against the Dark Arts position, there didn’t seem to be any other teaching roles available. It was highly unlikely that Ivan would be appointed as the headmaster, right?
"I heard that the Ministry of Magic wants to enhance your ability to face risks during these special times. So, they plan to add a new course next year, specifically to train your combat skills", Ivan said, half-jokingly.
"Train us, like Dueling Class?" Harry and Ron perked up, asking with enthusiasm.
Normally, they would have groaned and complained if the Ministry of Magic announced a new course. But if it involved using wands in combat, it suddenly became much more interesting.
"Something like that..." Ivan mused, as he hadn’t yet decided how he would conduct the lessons.
"But will the Ministry of Magic agree to you being a professor? You’ll only be sixteen next year, not even of age. The Ministry of Magic is unlikely to let an underage wizard teach", Hermione said hesitantly.
"Don’t think of the Ministry of Magic as so rigid. Trust me, the new Acting Minister, Pierce, is a very open-minded person!" Ivan assured her confidently.
Although he hadn’t discussed this with Pierce yet, he was certain the Ministry of Magic wouldn’t reject the proposal.
As for Hogwarts, there was no need for much concern. The headmaster’s position was still vacant, and the twelve Governors who could influence decisions were all on his side.
The only thing to consider was the parents’ opinions.
But Ivan already had a plan for this. He would have the Daily Prophet widely publicize his genius, making his early graduation a well-known fact. He would also highlight his previous achievements to build his reputation.
With the title of prodigy, the Ministry of Magic would be more inclined to specially appoint him as a Professor at Hogwarts, responsible for teaching a new course that is not yet part of the official exams, without much opposition.
In fact, if it were possible, Ivan even considered becoming the new headmaster of Hogwarts. After all, some System Tasks could be easily completed with the authority of the headmaster.
However, after careful consideration, Ivan dismissed the idea.
A sixteen-year-old headmaster was simply too absurd, and he had no experience in managing a school. So Ivan decided to start as a Professor first, and after a year or two, he could then aim for the position of headmaster.
Reforming the educational status quo at Hogwarts would have to be a gradual process.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione were skeptical. They all thought the Ministry of Magic would most likely not agree to let Ivan, an underage wizard, become a Professor.
Ivan shrugged, not bothering to explain further. He turned to Harry and asked, "Have you decided whether you want to learn Occlumency from Professor Snape, Harry?"
"Maybe later", Harry replied, feeling a headache. He was already overwhelmed with daily revision, and the thought of facing Snape's stern face on top of that was enough to drive him mad.
"You should take this more seriously, Harry! Have you forgotten? Last year, the Dark Lord used your dreams to feed Professor Dumbledore false information. For all we know, the Dark Lord might be browsing your memories right now..." Hermione sternly explained the necessity of learning Occlumency from Snape.
Harry couldn't stand Hermione's nagging any longer and finally agreed to ask Snape on Friday if he was willing to teach him.
Harry optimistically thought that Snape would undoubtedly reject his proposal without hesitation...
While Harry was dealing with this, Ron approached Ivan, his curiosity piqued by the object Ivan was handling. "What's that? A crown?"
"This is Ravenclaw's Diadem. It was previously turned into a powerful Dark Magic Object by the Dark Lord. Three years ago, the incident where Lockhart attacked students was caused by this diadem..." Ivan briefly explained how he obtained the diadem.
Hearing about the Dark Lord, Ron felt a shiver down his spine, but once he learned that Ivan had repaired the damaged diadem, his interest was immediately piqued. He had heard many stories about Ravenclaw's Diadem, which was said to grant wisdom.
"Can I try it on?" Ron asked.
"Of course", Ivan said, handing the diadem over without hesitation.
Ron eagerly took it, placed it on his head, and opened a book to test its effects.
However, after a few minutes of serious reading, Ron took the diadem off, utterly disappointed. He realized it didn't improve his memory or make him instantly brilliant.
Ivan shook his head and took the diadem back. He wasn't surprised by Ron's reaction, as he had conducted various experiments before and found that it seemed to be nothing more than a decorative item, despite its ornate appearance.
But the System's evaluation clearly stated that Ravenclaw's Diadem was a powerful magical item that could enhance one's wisdom...
