Chapter 848: The Art of Bargaining
Chapter 848: The Art of Bargaining
Should I save them... So, apart from these True Gods, you're even targeting me now?
Looking at the string of True Gods' souls in his hand, but neither attacking nor leaving, he stood below, looking up at his God of Food, while the Tale of Illusions circling in the sky couldn't help but grit his teeth, his gaze towards Lyon becoming increasingly fierce.
However, even if he hated not being able to pounce and tear the God of Food to shreds, when he saw the expectant expression on Lyon's face, Tale of Illusions couldn't help but feel a chill down his spine. The anger that had filled his mind instantly froze into icy fragments.
It was that look!
Previously, when he heard that there would be over thirty True Gods descending, he looked at himself with that disgusting expression and then grinned, giving him a thumbs-up, saying that the Butcher King Society would surely flourish under his leadership.
As for the final outcome...
Looking at the string of True Gods in Lyon's hand, the Tale of Illusions in the sky couldn't help but fall silent for a moment, then turned and left without another word!
Don't save them! Let them die!
Although he was a Pillar God, he was only slightly stronger than an ordinary Zodiac Bureau Chief, but only if the location wasn't in the present world. Under the suppression of the Watchtower Palace, his strength was only slightly better than an average True God, definitely not a match for the Zodiac Bureau Chief.
The Pisces Bureau members were just outside the Arcane City, but because they had no way to deal with Bedtime Story, they had no choice but to withdraw. Now that Bedtime Story had been dispelled by him, if the God of Food notified the Pisces Bureau...
...
"Don't worry, the Pisces Bureau Chief won't come."
As if guessing what Tale of Illusions was apprehensive about, Lyon below spoke up reassuringly:
"She's been injured, and her condition isn't good right now. She'll probably need some time to recover, so you still have a chance to save them."
Pfft! Even a fool knows that's impossible!
"Then how about this."
Seeing that no matter how he shouted, the black magpie flew straight up without looking back, Lyon thought for a moment and then promised:
"If you're willing to come down and spar with me, I can promise to let go of a third of these True Gods... How about it? Are you interested now?"
"?!?!"
Facing Lyon's outrageous proposal, the black magpie, halfway through its flight, suddenly froze, then stopped flapping its wings, unsure and suspicious, it asked:
"Are you serious?"
"Of course I am."
Looking up at the Tale of Illusions above, who had stopped fleeing, Lyon explained earnestly:
"The truth you possess is too dangerous, even bypassing the protection of the Watchtower Palace. Although I'm confident I can withstand it, others might not. So, if letting go of a few True Gods can give me a chance to deal with you, I think it's a fair trade."
"..."
If he could really release some of the True Gods... Then it might be worth taking the risk?
Seeing that the God of Food wasn't even pretending, openly stating that he wanted to kill him, Tale of Illusions couldn't help but fall silent for a moment, then spoke with a grim face:
"But how can I be sure you'll release them?"
"That's a problem..."
After pondering for a moment, Lyon seemed to suddenly remember something, and his eyes lit up.
"Wait a moment!"
In the Tale of Illusions' puzzled gaze, Lyon searched through the string of True Gods in his hand, found the 19th True God, and untied him from the rope. Then, pinching the terrified 19th True God's face, he shouted towards the circling black magpie above:
"As it happens, the God of Contracts and Promises is right here! If you agree to come down, we can sign a contract with him right away!"
"..."
Sign a contract, my ass! Do you take me for a fool?
"No way!"
Looking at the God of Contracts and Promises, held like a dead dog in Lyon's hand, his soul shaking like chaff, the Tale of Illusions couldn't help but grit his teeth, then shouted out his counteroffer:
"He's already been captured by you, and his physical body has been destroyed, leaving only his soul. Even if you willingly step into his ability, he might not be able to bind you! If you really want me to come down, the Black Cat, who has inherited the Great Witch King's position, must guarantee it by swearing before the Great Hall of the Heart! Also, releasing only a third of them isn't enough!"
Looking at the string of True Gods in Lyon's hand, the Tale of Illusions coldly said:
"God of Food! I can give you a chance to capture me, but in exchange, you must release two-thirds of the True Gods! And it must be done the instant I come down; you must release their souls immediately!"
"Two-thirds is too much. At most, I can release half, no more.
"No, it must be two-thirds. Not a single one of the twenty-six True Gods can be spared!"
"Then get lost!"
Upon hearing this, Lyon let out a cold laugh. He then used the Archer Secret Art: Lyon's Limited Edition to enhance his Severing Silver Dagger, temporarily corrupting it into a Three-Headed Black Dog. He commanded the three heads of the dog to each bite down on the brains of three True Gods.
"Crunch!"
Accompanied by the sound of sharp teeth severing souls and the pitiful screams of the three True Gods, the string of souls instantly lost three, leaving only thirty-six of the captured thirty-nine True Gods.
"You!!! What are you doing?!"
"My conditions remain the same. I'll release half of them if you come down."

Lyon scanned the panicked screams of the True Gods, selected three brains with a high probability of not affecting the world's operations, and commanded the Three-Headed Black Dog to bite down on them. With a calm expression, Lyon said, "However, every time you refuse me, three more True Gods will be removed from this string. Right now, it's half of thirty-six True Gods. Soon, it might be half of thirty-three, and then half of thirty. It's up to you."
"You... You madman! No one bargains like this! You should at least..."
"Wrong answer."
"Wait! Stop!"
Amidst the shocked and furious shouts from the Tale of Illusions, the Three-Headed Black Dog, which was the embodiment of the Severing Silver Dagger, bit down again. The souls of the three True Gods were instantly severed in two, and they vanished into the dog's mouth with agonizing screams.
"Now it's half of thirty-three. So, do you want to continue refusing my proposal, or..."
"Damn it! I agree! I agree! Stop... Stop it!"
"Crunch!"
"Damn you!!!"
Seeing the Three-Headed Black Dog suddenly open its mouth and swallow another True God, the Tale of Illusions in the sky couldn't help but fly into a rage.
"I already agreed! Why are you still attacking?"
"Because thirty-three is an odd number and cannot be divided evenly by two."
After answering with a matter-of-fact expression, Lyon reached out and touched each of the lined-up True God souls. He then adjusted their positions, placing the souls that helped maintain the rules of the world in the front half and those that were inconsequential in the back half.
Immediately after, amidst the terrified expressions of the two groups of True Gods, Lyon first tore the string holding the souls from the middle. After some thought, he flipped through the front half and pulled out the seventh True God, whose soul bore a mark, and threaded it onto the edible back half. Then, he shook the front half towards the top and said, "Here, these can be released. As long as you come down, I'll set them free immediately."
"..."
Looking at the one fewer True God than agreed upon, the Tale of Illusions in the sky ground its teeth in anger.
However, through the previous negotiation, it had understood Lyon's style and knew that if it argued, the God of Food would use the excuse of balancing numbers to eat a few more True Gods. Therefore, it had no choice but to ignore the desperate cries of the seventh True God and reluctantly nod in agreement.
"Fine! Make her swear!"
