Chapter 848: Ivan: I Really Don't Understand You Kids
Chapter 848: Ivan: I Really Don’t Understand You Kids
"I understand, Harry. No one would want to learn Magic from that Old Bat. I really don’t know what Professor Dumbledore was thinking", Ron sympathetically patted Harry’s shoulder, trying to comfort him.
Ivan stepped forward, interrupting their conversation.
"By the way, Harry, Ron, the Wizarding World is very unstable right now. Voldemort could attack any of us at any moment. So, I’ve recently developed a Magic that allows us to communicate and share information. Would you like to try it?"
"What kind of Magic?" Ron’s interest was immediately piqued, and he eagerly asked.
Harry was also very curious.
"It’s a Mark Magic..." Ivan then explained the various functions of the Magic Mark.
He had considered giving Harry and the others the Magic Mark at the start of the school year, to prevent the enraged Voldemort from redirecting his hatred towards these friends. However, he had been concerned about being misunderstood, and since Dumbledore was still alive and could protect Harry and the others, he had delayed the process.
"A mark on the arm? Like the Dark Mark?!" Ron blurted out after hearing Ivan’s explanation.
"The Mark Magic itself isn’t inherently good or bad; it all depends on how we use it..." Ivan patiently explained.
Before he could finish, Ron excitedly interrupted, "This is amazing!"
Ivan was taken aback, looking at Ron with a peculiar expression. He found himself not really understanding what these kids were thinking...
Ron didn’t notice Ivan’s strange gaze and continued excitedly, "I’ve always thought we should form a Magic organization to fight against the Dark Lord, just like the Order of the Phoenix!"
"The Order of the Phoenix? What’s the Order of the Phoenix?" Seamus, who had just entered the room, looked confused at the group.
"Um, well... we were just discussing what to name our new secret organization..." Ron stammered, remembering that the Order of the Phoenix was supposed to be a secret.
Seamus didn’t seem suspicious and quickly became engrossed in the idea of the secret organization. When he learned that Ivan had developed a special Magic Mark, he eagerly asked Ivan to give him one too.
Ivan was somewhat amused and bewildered. He hadn’t expected things to go so smoothly; all his prepared explanations were now unnecessary.
But it was better to save some effort. After explaining the use of the Mark to Harry, Ron, Seamus, and Neville, Ivan took out his wand and began casting. Within a few minutes, the vibrant Sleeping Dragon Mark appeared on their wrists.
"Awesome!" Seamus touched the lifelike Dragon pattern on his arm, excitedly shouting. Then, as if a thought struck him, he cautiously asked, "Do you think we could use it to cheat?"
Ron and Harry were initially shocked by Seamus’s bold idea, but upon further thought, they realized it might actually work. If they could communicate seamlessly through the Magic Mark, why couldn’t they use it to pass answers?
“Seamus, that’s not a good idea, is it?” Neville said timidly.
But Seamus wasn’t in the mood to listen. He was enthusiastically discussing their cheating plan with Ron.
“You’d better drop this idea. I’ve heard that this year’s O.W.L. exams are extremely strict. The Ministry of Magic is sending some Aurors to supervise, and they might even have instruments to detect magic. If you get caught, you’ll definitely be expelled!” Ivan said seriously, though he felt a sense of helplessness.
He hadn’t expected that Seamus and the others, upon learning about the Magic Mark’s ability to pass information, would immediately think of using it to cheat...
Under Ivan’s threat of expulsion, Seamus and Ron reluctantly abandoned their cheating plan and began discussing what to name their secret organization.
...
Time flew by, and before they knew it, it was February. In the nearly one month since the start of the school year, the Wizarding World had remained unusually calm. Voldemort, who many had feared and worried about, seemed to have disappeared. The anticipated attacks on Hogwarts did not happen, which helped to ease the minds of many parents.
The Daily Prophet attributed this calm to the Ministry of Magic’s efforts, as Pierce had dispatched numerous Aurors to search for Voldemort, keeping the Dark Lord on the run and unable to cause further trouble.
However, those who had experienced the previous war found this explanation laughable. They knew how powerful Voldemort was and understood that even a group of Aurors wouldn’t stand a chance against him. Instead, they believed that the Dark Lord was lurking in the shadows, plotting to overthrow the Wizarding World...
Regardless, the tense atmosphere had eased considerably. After enjoying a period of peace, the young wizards at Hogwarts temporarily forgot about the danger Voldemort posed and focused their attention on the upcoming exams.
Every weekend, the fifth-year students facing the O.W.L. exams and the seventh-year graduates preparing for their final exams would crowd the school library. In this intense study environment, even Harry and Ron, who usually didn’t care much for studying, put aside their playful antics and diligently reviewed their books in the common room.
Ivan, however, seemed out of place. He was holding a gem-encrusted crown, examining it closely and tapping it with his wand, as if trying to figure something out.
“Ivan, aren’t you going to review? The O.W.L. exams are only a month away, and you said you plan to take the final exams this year to pass all subjects and apply for early graduation, right?” Hermione put down her book and reminded him.
“I’ve already reviewed. Besides, it’s just a regular exam. I could even—” Ivan almost let slip what he was thinking but quickly corrected himself. “Cough, I mean, I could pass it even with my eyes closed…”
Harry and Ron, who were reviewing their notes, rolled their eyes. They wanted to complain about how he made the exams sound so easy, sapping their motivation to study...
The O.W.L.s (Ordinary Wizarding Level exams) were crucial and notoriously difficult subject tests. The N.E.W.T.s (Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests) were even more important, as the results would directly impact their future job prospects.
