Chapter 847: Rumors Spread, A Divide Between Brothers
Chapter 847: Rumors Spread, A Divide Between Brothers
As Kyle stepped out of the Ministry of Magic, he squinted at the bright, glaring sunlight. He wondered if the Department of Mystical Creatures would offer a view of the outside world, as this was something Ariana had always yearned for.
Perhaps it was possible...
Although the Department was located in the underground levels of the Ministry, with the Silent Ones' abilities, creating a magical window to connect to the outside world wasn't a difficult task.
And this was already the best arrangement.
He couldn't possibly attempt to bring someone from the past into the future; it was unrealistic, even with the Time Turner he had used after consecutively drinking 'Raspberry Beverage' for a month.
Moreover, there was one crucial point... Kyle extended his hand and stared at his wand in a daze.
Since last night, he had been feeling a subtle sense of rejection. The most obvious sign was that his spells didn't flow as smoothly as before.
Although not very noticeable, it was a real issue.
The reason was simple; he didn't belong here. Despite returning with the Time Turner, he felt out of place with everything around him.
Nico's 'Raspberry Beverage' could temporarily solve this problem, but its effect weakened over time.
Since this was the case for him, Ariana, who had been brought a hundred years into the future, would likely experience the same.
Therefore, taking her to the Department of Mystical Creatures was the best choice.
At least there, Ariana wouldn't feel bored anymore. The Silent Ones were incredibly busy, as evidenced by the fact that his mother rarely returned home.
When one is busy, there's no time for sentimentality. Perhaps this job could help Ariana quickly adapt to life without her brother.
Additionally, the Silent Ones' salary wasn't low; it was even higher than that of Hogwarts professors, only slightly less than the Headmaster's. It was a high-paying, stable job.
Sometimes, even Kyle felt tempted, but unfortunately, they only considered prophecies, not academic performance, during recruitment.
Kyle shook his head, deciding not to think about it further.
Leaving the Ministry, he apparated to a secluded location and returned to Godric's Hollow.
The most urgent task now was to check on Dumbledore's situation.
Kyle returned to the road where he had left with Ariana and re-entered the quiet valley.
Even though it was almost noon, the valley was unusually quiet, with nearly everyone gathered near a church in the south.
A funeral was taking place... Ariana's funeral.
Kyle stood silently on the outskirts of the crowd, and through the people, he could clearly see Aberforth sobbing uncontrollably on the newly carved tombstone.
The young Dumbledore was also in tears, his eyes filled with endless regret.
"What right do you have to cry!"
Aberforth suddenly exploded, turning and punching Dumbledore in the face.
Blood flowed from his nose and mouth, and Dumbledore's nasal bone broke instantly, but he didn't bother to wipe it. He just stared at the tombstone, letting the blood cover his face.
"You hypocritical bastard!" Aberforth tried to hit him again, but the crowd, now back to their senses, held him back.
"Let go of me, you don't understand anything!" Aberforth struggled, "This cold-blooded bastard would only feel relieved to be rid of a burden. How could he possibly be sad... Let me go, I want to kill him!"
But no one around believed him; they thought Aberforth was just grieving and looking for someone to vent his emotions.
So they held Aberforth back, preventing him from attacking Dumbledore, and for a moment, the scene became chaotic.
However, Kyle noticed that only a small portion of the crowd tried to intervene, while most chose to remain silent.
It wasn't that they were cold-hearted or lacked a relationship with the Dumbledores. Godric's Hollow was a small place, and everyone was practically neighbors, so their relationships weren't too bad. Most people just hadn't grasped the situation yet.
Or perhaps, before today, they didn't know that the Dumbledores had an unseen teenage girl in their family.
"When did you get here?" someone suddenly asked Kyle.
"Oh, Cody," Kyle turned and replied, "What's happening here?"
"It's about the Dumbledores..." Cody paused for a moment before continuing, "To be honest, I still find it unbelievable. I never knew they had a girl.
"Not just me, look over there, Bathilda seems clueless too. I always thought our families were close, especially since Kendra was still alive and they often had afternoon tea together."
Kyle followed his gaze and indeed saw a bewildered Bathilda Bagshot.
"You didn't know the Dumbledores had a girl?" Kyle asked.
"No," Cody shook his head, "And many others didn't know either. Kendra never mentioned her."
At this point, Cody lowered his voice.
"This isn't the place to talk, let's go to the pub..."
"Is it appropriate?"
"No problem, the ceremony is over."
Kyle nodded and followed Cody out of the church, leading him to the Valley Pub, as he didn't want to stay here any longer.
He proactively ordered two of the finest brandies and handed him a common parchment bag.
"What's this?"
"Your borrowed item." Kyle handed it over with a smile, "I said I'd return it, and now it's back in your hands."
After encountering the Silent Ones, Kyle had removed the Invisibility Cloak from Ariana, and the witch hadn't mentioned it again before leaving, so the Department of Mystical Creatures should have a way to deal with the Silencio User, no need for him to worry.
"You're really giving it back to me?" Cody still couldn't believe it.
"Don't want it?" Kyle raised an eyebrow, "Then I'll reluctantly accept it..."
"Who said I don't want it?" Cody snatched the parchment bag and held it close, lowering his voice, "I just didn't expect you to actually return it. To be honest, when I gave you the Invisibility Cloak that day, I never thought I'd see it again.
"And at that moment, I breathed a sigh of relief."
"How so?"
"Because this is also a big trouble." Cody took a sip of brandy, "For hundreds of years, countless wizards have been searching for the Holy Artifact. It's quite amusing to think about. Last night was the most sound sleep I've had."
"Then, how about you sleep a few more nights of sound sleep?" Kyle smiled, "I certainly don't mind."
Cody didn't speak, only holding the parchment bag closer, indicating his stance.
"As agreed, even if you return it, I'm not taking back what you left behind... I've finished it all."
"I don't want it back." Kyle said, "I mentioned before, it's your payment."
"But speaking of that." Cody hesitated, glancing at Kyle, and finally asked, "This is the legendary Holy Artifact, and you're willing to give it back to me?"
"Just a magical item." Kyle waved his hand dismissively, "Besides, I've even seen Ravenclaw's Crown, so why would I care about this?"
"Ha, someone's already drunk without taking a sip." Kyle laughed, "If you've seen Ravenclaw's Crown, I, I..."
He looked around, "I'll run around Godric's Hollow without my pants."
"Be sure to notify me in advance." Kyle smiled, "I'll prepare some eye-cleansing potions beforehand, and we can definitely make it happen."
"Then you should've seen it too." Cody chuckled, "Ravenclaw's Crown is more mysterious than the Holy Artifact, and even the legends about it are scarce. I guess that item must've been taken by Rowena Ravenclaw to a place no one can find. Don't talk big."
"Let's just say that's how it is." Kyle shrugged, not explaining further, "Now, what were you going to say? You brought me here for some small talk?"
"Just some idle chatter, it's a bit inconvenient to talk about it over there." Cody took another sip of brandy, "Some people believe that the girl in the Dumbledore family is a Banshee, so Kendra locked her up at home. She's a pitiful child."
"Why do they say that?" Kyle asked with interest.
"It's because of Kendra's personality." Cody said, "You don't know, she's a terrifying woman... Oh, saying terrifying might not be appropriate, but she's indeed proud and domineering.
Of course, Kendra also has her good side. Anything that goes through her hands will always be handled perfectly, and usually, she's also willing to help anyone in need, unless..."
"Unless what?"
"Her identity." Cody hesitated, "Supposedly, she's Muggle-born, but she insists on lying about it, and anyone who mentions this will make her furious.
"If such a person has a Banshee child, of course, she wouldn't let her appear in public, especially after Albus displayed extraordinary magical talents."
"Muggle-born?" Kyle asked in surprise, "Who said that?"
"Seems like a student from her year at Hogwarts."
The original text is in Chapter 6, Book 9.
"Just one?" Kyle tapped his finger on the table, "Do you believe it?"
"To be honest, I don't." Cody didn't hesitate, shaking his head, "And it doesn't matter. Whose family here doesn't have a few Muggle-born wizards?
"It's just that this suddenly appearing girl has brought up this old story again. Until now, I still can't understand why Kendra would lock her daughter up in the house."
The more Cody spoke, the more Kyle understood. He now had a clearer image of her.
She was a strong-willed, stubborn, but very capable witch.
As for Dumbledore's father... No one had seen him, and when the Dumbledore family moved in, it was just three people... Kendra, Albus, and Aberforth.
Over time, the pub gradually filled up, even though it wasn't yet evening. The place was packed with curious onlookers, all discussing the same topic—the mysterious Ariana, who had suddenly appeared and then passed away just as abruptly, having been kept hidden by her mother for so long.
Anger, suspicion, and blame filled the air, with most voices agreeing that Kendra was an unfit mother. Some whispered that there might have been some misunderstanding, but their voices were drowned out by the louder, more critical opinions.
Kyle found the whole situation somewhat amusing. After all, with Kendra gone, no one could truly know her real thoughts.
In a way, Kendra had saved their lives. If she hadn't insisted on keeping Ariana at home, the Silentan might have claimed more victims when it erupted.
Kyle felt a bit bored and decided to leave the noisy pub. He finished his drink and headed out, wandering aimlessly through Godric's Hollow.
He eventually found himself near the church, where he could see the graveyard. Most people had left, except for a few who seemed to have some connection to the Dumbledore family.
Aberforth and the young Dumbledore were still there, but a distance separated them, as if an unbridgeable gulf lay between them.
Kyle wanted to check on them, but his identity prevented him from doing much, even if he approached them.
"I'll wait and see," Kyle thought to himself as he turned away from the hill and returned to Godric's Hollow, aimlessly strolling through the streets.
Unbeknownst to him, he had not encountered Grindelwald during his walk, and the latter seemed to have left Godric's Hollow the previous day.
Bathilda was sitting in her garden, gazing at the Dumbledore house in a daze, seemingly unaware of Kyle's presence beside her.
Kyle decided not to disturb her and headed towards the abandoned granary.
If Dumbledore had managed to escape, he would likely come here.
Unfortunately, when Kyle pushed open the door, he didn't find the young man.
...
As the night deepened, the lights in the windows gradually went out, and Godric's Hollow fell into silence.
Under the moonlight, a figure swiftly made its way through the alleys towards the church. It was Kyle, who had waited for the entire afternoon but hadn't seen Dumbledore. He decided to take matters into his own hands and find him.
To his surprise, there was someone else in the graveyard.
It was the young Dumbledore, standing in the same spot as before, as if he hadn't moved an inch.
Kyle glanced at him and then at the tombstone, raising his wand.
He knew that what he was about to do wouldn't be approved by Dumbledore, so he had to deal with this problem first.
With his current state, Kyle was confident he could take him down in an instant.
"Stupefy!"
A red light flew towards the young Dumbledore, who, as Kyle expected, was completely unaware and was instantly hit by the spell. He stumbled and fell heavily to the ground.
Kyle approached him.
"Oh, I should've shown up earlier," he said.
"Um, I'm still alive for now," a voice replied from behind Kyle.
Kyle turned around, surprised, "Professor, you're alive?"
"Well, for now, I am," Dumbledore said as he walked towards Kyle. "It wasn't easy to deceive them. When the Polyjuice Potion wore off, I almost got caught. Luckily, the situation was chaotic, and I managed to use a Transfiguration Spell to escape."
"You managed to fool them all with just a Transfiguration Spell?" Kyle asked in amazement.
"I also used a special magic to make myself appear truly dead," Dumbledore explained. "Once I woke up, I used a pre-prepared Portkey to escape."
He glanced at his younger self lying on the ground and subconsciously touched his head, muttering, "No wonder I woke up next to the tombstone that day, feeling a terrible headache. I should've set the Portkey to activate earlier; that hit really hurt."
Kyle gave an awkward laugh and discreetly kicked a brick away from the young Dumbledore's head.
"It's okay," Dumbledore said, "The pain at least helped me regain my senses." He then asked the question that was on his mind. "What about Ariana? How is she?"
"She's fine," Kyle assured him, "I sent her to a safe place. Don't worry."
"Where is she?" Dumbledore asked urgently.
"At the Ministry of Magic, Department of Mystical Creatures," Kyle replied, looking at him intently, "Don't even think about going there. At least not now. If you do, all our efforts will be in vain."
"I know, I won't go," Dumbledore said.
Kyle didn't press the issue further. On this matter, he trusted that Dumbledore wouldn't act impulsively.
