Chapter 847: Phoenix Reappears!
Chapter 847: Phoenix Reappears!
To prevent Ivan, Hermione, and Ron from coming to look for him, Harry deliberately walked in the opposite direction, quickly reaching the edge of the Quidditch pitch.
It was deep into the night, and the field was deserted. The gentle cold wind helped to calm his agitated emotions.
However, Harry still couldn't understand why Professor Dumbledore wanted him to learn Occlumency from Snape, knowing how much the Potions professor despised him.
Not to mention, Snape had done a lot for Voldemort...
Harry couldn't help but think about his recent dreams where Voldemort appeared, and Snape was always by his side. They seemed to be searching for something... with great urgency!
But he couldn't tell anyone this information. Ivan, Hermione, and Sirius Black had repeatedly warned him not to trust anything he saw in his dreams...
If he revealed what he had dreamed, they would surely nag him endlessly.
As for Professor Dumbledore not mentioning him in his will, Harry had come to terms with it.
It wasn't something he couldn't understand. After all, Ivan was far more talented than him and was the most likely to defeat Voldemort in the future.
In comparison, what use could he be?
He had only managed to escape Voldemort by sheer luck.
While Harry was lost in these thoughts, a familiar melody suddenly drifted down from above. Harry looked up curiously and saw a golden-red bird perched on a tree branch, staring at him intently...
"Fawkes?!" Harry exclaimed in surprise.
The proud Phoenix flew down from the branch, circled around him, and then flew toward the Forbidden Forest.
"Do you want me to follow you, Fawkes?" Harry took a step forward, asking uncertainly.
The Phoenix circled low in the air, letting out a series of calls, as if confirming his guess.
With the confirmation, despite his many questions, Harry followed without hesitation.
The path ahead grew increasingly remote, and Harry realized he was deep into the Forbidden Forest. The darkness around him was complete, and the insect sounds made him feel increasingly uneasy.
Fortunately, Fawkes did not continue deeper. It soon stopped in front of a massive banyan tree. Harry, out of breath, took a few steps closer. In the dim light emitted by the Phoenix, he saw a silver-gray, liquid-like object hanging from a branch of the banyan tree.
"This is... my Invisibility Cloak?!" Harry immediately recognized it, speaking to himself in surprise.
The joy of finding his lost cloak made him forget to wonder why it was here. He immediately drew his wand and shouted,
"Diffindo!"
A thin beam of light flashed through the air, severing the branch. The Invisibility Cloak slid off the tree and Harry quickly caught it. Only then did he notice a square note attached to the cloak, written in a familiar handwriting.
【I thought long and hard about what I should leave for you, but I could only find your Invisibility Cloak. I'm sorry for keeping it for several months without returning it to you as soon as I found it...】
The note ended with no signature, but Harry recognized it as Professor Dumbledore's handwriting from the Phoenix that had led him here.
But why didn’t the Professors simply write this in the will and send the Invisibility Cloak along with the other heirlooms?
Harry was quite puzzled. He vaguely realized that Professor Dumbledore might have only wanted him to see the Invisibility Cloak, which was why he had placed it in such an out-of-the-way location and had Fawkes bring him here when he was alone.
Harry’s suspicions were soon confirmed, as there was another message on the back of the parchment.
"Do not tell anyone about this. If necessary, try to trust Severus..."
Snape again... Harry felt somewhat disheartened, wondering if Professor Dumbledore trusted him too much.
At the same time, Harry keenly sensed another layer of meaning in the information Dumbledore had left behind. Someone he knew must have joined the Dark Lord, which was the only way to explain why Dumbledore didn’t want others to know he had recovered the Invisibility Cloak.
But who could it be other than Snape?
Images of various people flashed through Harry’s mind, but he couldn’t bring himself to believe any of them would betray everyone and join the Dark Lord.
Harry wasn’t particularly bothered by Dumbledore’s decision to keep the Invisibility Cloak from him, as he hadn’t needed it recently. Instead, he was grateful that Dumbledore had managed to recover the cloak he had accidentally lost.
It wasn’t an easy task...
As the sky grew darker, Harry hastily stowed the Invisibility Cloak in his robe and put the note in his pocket, preparing to follow the lights of the distant castle back to the dormitory.
Fawkes the Phoenix, circling slowly in the air, descended and landed on his shoulder.
"Do you have anything else to tell me, Fawkes?" Harry turned his head, looking curiously at the golden-red phoenix.
Fawkes emitted a low, melodious sound, but Harry was completely puzzled—he couldn’t understand Fawkes’ bird language.
Realizing this, Fawkes decided not to waste any more time and enveloped Harry in a burst of flames, disappearing with him on the spot.
When Harry came to, he found himself in the Boys' Dormitory.
For some reason, the room was empty; Ivan and the others were nowhere to be seen. Harry looked around but didn’t spot Fawkes either.
Just then, Ron’s voice came from the doorway. Remembering Dumbledore’s warning, Harry quickly tucked the Invisibility Cloak under his bed.
The next moment, the dormitory door opened, and Ivan, Ron, and Neville entered together.
They were all surprised to see Harry already back in the dormitory. Ron stepped forward, complaining, "Where were you, Harry? We went to Hagrid’s to look for you, but you weren’t there!"
"Sorry, Ron, I just needed some time alone..." Harry replied apologetically, hesitating whether to tell Ivan, Ron, and Neville about his experience and ask them to help him figure out who the undercover agent for Voldemort might be. But after some thought, he decided against it.
