Chapter 846: Gryffindor's Sword!
Chapter 846: Gryffindor's Sword!
"Lord Hals, Headmaster Dumbledore also left you a gift", Delius said, turning to take a long, cloth-wrapped object from an Auror after handing the letter to Ron.
Ivan reached out to take the object, unwrapped the cloth, and a beautifully adorned sword was revealed to everyone.
The rubies inlaid in the hilt glittered in the firelight, and the name Godric Gryffindor was faintly visible on the blade, inscribed in ancient Runic script.
"This is... Gryffindor's Sword?!" Hermione exclaimed in surprise.
"Yes, Headmaster Dumbledore bequeathed it to Lord Hals in his will", Delius explained.
In fact, according to the regulations, Dumbledore did not have the right to transfer Gryffindor's Sword to anyone else, as it belonged to Hogwarts as a whole, not to him personally.
But who would dare to object when Minister Pierce had given special approval? No one would be so impertinent as to challenge the decision.
Compared to the surprised Hermione and others, Ivan remained quite calm. He had already seen the will and knew Dumbledore would leave him Gryffindor's Sword.
Of course, this was the first time he actually held it in his hands.
Ivan was also curious about this legendary sword. He gripped the hilt and swung it, the sharp blade slicing through the air with a crisp whistling sound, effortlessly cutting a candelabra on the table in half.
After more than a thousand years, the sword was still incredibly sharp. The craftsmanship of the Goblins was truly unparalleled.
Ivan lightly caressed the smooth blade and then opened the System Bar to check its details.
[Magic Item: Gryffindor's Sword
Magic: Extremely Powerful
Item Description: This is a magic sword crafted over a thousand years ago by master Goblin smiths, capable of absorbing all beneficial factors to enhance itself.
Note 1: Drop your wand; this is the weapon you should use in a Wizard's Duel!
Note 2: Only a true Gryffindor can summon it!]
Ivan ignored the notes and focused on the item description, slightly surprised. Gryffindor's Sword was rated as an extremely powerful magic item by the System. To date, he had only seen three other items with a similar rating: the Elder Wand, the Invisibility Cloak, and the Philosopher's Stone in his possession!
But upon reflection, it made sense. A sword that could infinitely enhance itself was certainly worthy of such high praise.
"I can't believe Professor Dumbledore gave it to you. I heard that only a true Gryffindor is worthy of this sword", Ron said, his eyes filled with envy as he looked at the sword in Ivan's hand.
The Headmaster had left him and Hermione some items, but they were not particularly valuable. It was clear that the sword was the true legacy, and the rest were mere trinkets.
Hermione corrected Ron, "Perhaps Professor Dumbledore believed Ivan is a true Gryffindor, which is why he entrusted the sword to him!"
"I didn't say he wasn't..." Ron said with a sigh.
"Since I've given you your gifts, if you have no further questions, I'll take my leave. There are many matters at the Ministry of Magic that need my attention", Delius said politely, giving Ivan a final glance to ensure he had no special instructions before leading the Aurors out of the entrance hall.
"Why does that Auror seem to respect you so much?" Hermione watched as Delius walked away, then turned to Ivan, asking suspiciously.
"Probably because I’m somewhat famous?" Ivan shrugged and explained casually.
Hermione was half-convinced but didn’t press further. She took out the Deluminator Dumbledore had given her and began to study it again, convinced that this object was more complex than it appeared.
"Professor Dumbledore wouldn’t leave us anything without a reason. There might be a way to defeat the Dark Lord hidden in here!" Hermione declared with determination.
Ron also perked up, reopening the letter and examining it word by word, as if trying to uncover some hidden code or message.
Ivan shook his head. He didn’t think Dumbledore would place the hope of defeating the Dark Lord solely on Harry, Ron, and Hermione, as he had in the original timeline.
However, the thought of the missing Elder Wand and the magic Dumbledore had placed on the Deluminator made Ivan uncertain.
Finally, Ivan’s gaze turned to the Sword of Gryffindor in his hand, pondering why Dumbledore had given it to him.
Did Dumbledore expect him to become a worthy Gryffindor, embodying all the noble qualities?
Surely, he wasn’t meant to challenge Voldemort with this sword?
He was a wizard, not a berserker!
The Sword of Gryffindor hadn’t slain a Basilisk in this timeline, so it wouldn’t be effective against Horcruxes.
And Fiendfyre was far more convenient than this sword.
These thoughts flashed through Ivan’s mind. Since he couldn’t figure it out, he decided to set it aside for now and turned his attention to Harry, who still seemed somewhat dispirited. After a moment’s thought, he spoke.
"Harry, Professor Dumbledore still cares a lot about you. The last time we met, he talked to me about you."
"What did he say?" Harry asked eagerly.
"He’s planning to have you study Occlumency with Professor Snape this term..." Ivan explained.
"What... Snape?!" Harry jumped up from his seat, his eyes wide with disbelief. He tried to sound hopeful as he added, "You must be joking, right, Ivan?"
"Of course not!" Ivan, looking at Harry’s shocked expression, continued. "Professor Snape is the best Occlumency master in Britain. Even I have a lot to learn from him. If you really want to rid yourself of Voldemort’s influence, learning from him is the quickest way."
"I can learn on my own! I’ve already read the notes you gave me. I can master this magic without help..." Harry interrupted Ivan, his voice strained. "Besides, Snape wouldn’t want to teach me. He hates me so much that he’d probably hand me over to Voldemort if he had the chance!"
But Snape has agreed... Ivan opened his mouth but then closed it, swallowing his words. He understood how deeply Harry misunderstood Snape, and knew it wouldn’t be easy to change his mind.
After venting his frustration, Harry couldn’t bear the heavy atmosphere in the Great Hall any longer. He told Ivan and the others he was going back to the dormitory and walked out of the entrance hall without looking back...
