Chapter 845: True Heroes
Chapter 845: True Heroes
While Ivan's research on Horcruxes had hit a standstill, his exploration of the Deluminator had made significant progress. He successfully deciphered the magic Dumbledore had embedded within it, but the results left him rather speechless.
The Deluminator, when fully charged with magic, could facilitate long-distance communication with someone simply by thinking of them.
It seemed a bit like a trinket designed to strengthen romantic relationships.
Of course, it could also be used to pass information.
However, the Deluminator's function conflicted with Ivan's Magic Mark, making it of little use to him. He decided to leave it with Hermione as a keepsake.
As for the other relic, Gryffindor's Sword, it had been retrieved from Hogwarts by the Ministry of Magic. Ivan didn't rush to have Pierce deliver it to him. Instead, he returned it to the Ministry along with the Deluminator and the letter, asking them to deliver it to Hogwarts at the appropriate time, to be announced in the presence of everyone.
...
The Christmas holidays ended quickly, and on the first day back to school, young wizards gradually returned to Hogwarts via the special train. However, the atmosphere this year was markedly different from previous years. A shadow seemed to hang over Hogwarts.
Dumbledore's funeral had taken place just a few days prior, and the Dark Lord was rampaging with a deranged fervor, sparing neither the Ministry of Magic nor Gringotts. Many speculated that Voldemort's next target would be Hogwarts itself!
As a result, many parents were hesitant to send their children back to school.
Fortunately, Pierce promptly issued a public announcement through the Daily Prophet, assuring the safety of every student and promising that the Ministry of Magic would dispatch a large number of elite Aurors to guard Hogwarts, activating the school's protective wards to turn it into an impregnable fortress.
Reassured by this, parents allowed their children to return to school on time.
To further calm the students, Delius announced the Ministry's measures at the opening banquet and revealed Dumbledore's will. After the banquet, he specifically retained Ivan and a few others.
"Part of Dumbledore's will pertains to you. To be precise, he left you some relics", Delius said as he approached Ivan and the others.
"You mean us? Did Headmaster Dumbledore leave me a relic?" Ron was amazed, having never expected this.
Harry and Hermione were also surprised, their eyes filled with a mix of anticipation as they looked at Delius.
"Yes, Ronmaster, including you, Lord Hals, and Miss Granger!" Delius replied.
"What about Harry?" Hermione suddenly asked, noticing that Delius had not mentioned Harry's name.
"I'm sorry, but Dumbledore's will did not leave anything to Harry Pottermaster", Delius said, maintaining a professional demeanor.
"That's impossible!" Ron couldn't help but shout. Everyone in the wizarding world knew how much Professor Dumbledore cared for Harry!
Hermione nodded in agreement. Professor Dumbledore had left something for all of them; it was inconceivable that he would have omitted Harry.
Harry looked at Delius, confusion evident on his face, clearly puzzled.
"Indeed, the Ministry of Magic has verified this multiple times. If you truly don't believe me, I can request that Dumbledore's will be shown to you", Delius stated firmly.
After Delius confirmed it, Harry's expression turned somewhat disappointed. He couldn't quite understand why Professor Dumbledore hadn't mentioned him in his will. Could it be that his performance over the years had disappointed the headmaster?
"Maybe Professor Dumbledore just forgot! You know, professors are over a hundred years old this year; their memory isn't the best", Ron quickly chimed in, trying to comfort him.
"Right, it must be that!" Hermione agreed.
"Perhaps..." Harry replied, though deep down he knew Dumbledore would never forget something like this. He forced a smile and changed the subject. "Captain Delius, you haven't told us what Professor Dumbledore left for Ron and the others yet."
"Oh, right..." Delius slapped his forehead and immediately pulled a small, intricate object, similar to a lighter, from his wizard robes pocket. He handed it to Hermione. "This is the Deluminator. Dumbledore mentioned in his will that he hopes you'll use it wisely."
Hermione carefully took it, fiddled with it for a moment, and quickly figured out how to use it. With a gentle snap of her right hand on the Deluminator, the candles in the Great Hall were instantly absorbed, and the room plunged into darkness.
"Oh, sorry!" Hermione quickly cast a Fire Spell, igniting the fireplace. The flames rose high, casting light back onto everyone.
"No problem, this Deluminator is likely something Dumbledore Sir made himself. You won't find anything like it anywhere else. It's a very valuable keepsake", Delius said with a smile, then turned to Ron and handed him a letter.
"Then there's you, Mr. Weasley. Dumbledore left you a letter specifically, and it's enchanted so that only you can open it."
Ron quickly took it and hesitated for a moment before opening it.
"What did Professor Dumbledore say in the letter?" Ivan asked curiously. He knew all about the items Dumbledore had left behind, but the contents of this letter were a mystery to him.
Harry and Hermione also turned to wait for Ron's response.
"Well, Professor Dumbledore said in the letter that he chose me as Prefect after careful consideration, and he believes I can do a good job..." Ron said, somewhat embarrassed.
"Of course, you've always done a great job, Ron. You're the best Prefect!" Harry encouraged him.
Ron nodded sheepishly. In truth, his performance as Prefect this year had been a mess. Many of the young wizards in Gryffindor didn't listen to his orders and even said privately that they only recognized Ivan Hals as a Prefect, which had left him feeling quite humiliated.
He had even started to wonder if Dumbledore had made a mistake with his name on the Prefect appointment letter.
But this last letter put his doubts to rest. Appointing him as Prefect was indeed a well-considered decision by Dumbledore, and this heavy trust moved Ron deeply.
Moreover, there was a second part of the letter that he didn't share with the others. Dumbledore had told him not to limit his vision to one aspect. Everyone has something they are suited for.
Ivan and Harry were undoubtedly excellent, but precisely because of this, they often overlooked the mundane tasks, which were equally important.
True heroes don't necessarily have to achieve great deeds. Those who work quietly behind the scenes, who inspire people to regain their confidence in times of crisis and unite them, are equally worthy of respect!
