Chapter 843: The Expected Day
Chapter 843: The Expected Day
"Help! Let me out!"
"Please, let me go!"
"I'd rather die outside than stay here any longer!"
"Waaaaah!"
It was still early in the morning.
Lindsey and Leaf Haiya heard the desperate cries coming from outside.
The two, who had been preparing for today's lesson, approached the window and saw a human not far away, lying on the fence of their residence, wailing uncontrollably in a state of hysteria.
Meanwhile, other residents nearby also turned their gazes towards them.
Some wore mocking expressions, others looked on with pity, but most seemed to empathize, their faces contorted in pain.
"..."
After more than ten seconds, servant machines gathered around.
They sprayed some kind of gas into the enclosure, and the frenzied human, upon smelling it, immediately fainted.
Then, the servant machines carefully escorted the human back inside.
The nearby 'residents' watched this scene in silence.
Living here was their own choice, but when the anticipated consequences appeared before them, an indescribable sense of fear quickly spread, surpassing their expectations of their ability to cope with pressure.
The Mech Clan didn't understand human emotions.
Soon, a beautiful female servant automaton named Lota, following her programming, approached the residence of the frenzied human.
The machines remained indifferent to the onlooking humans.
Leaf Haiya, by the window, shook her head.
"No one pays attention to others' emotions."
"If this continues, even if these people initially entered the Safety Zone voluntarily, it will eventually escalate into a riot."
"Indeed," Mr. Lindsey agreed, nodding.
However, he wouldn't ignore the situation. He shouted to the surrounding streets:
"Ladies and gentlemen, you all entered here voluntarily, but it was also out of necessity."
"Once the outside world returns to peace, we can leave together, rebuild our homes, and restore our normal lives!"
"..."
Mr. Lindsey's voice echoed through the streets.
The onlookers remained silent.
They returned to their residences, but the atmosphere today was slightly better than on days when such situations occurred.
Taking action is always better than doing nothing.
"Good morning, Mr. Lindsey."
At that moment, a familiar greeting came from the other end of the street.
Mr. Lindsey turned to look.
It was the servant automaton Lota approaching.
She was the most powerful individual in the automaton legion and was responsible for learning knowledge from Mr. Lindsey and sharing it with other machines.
Perhaps it was because she had witnessed the previous scene.
Lota, who came to learn today, also wore an expression of unusual contemplation.
Mr. Lindsey opened the door and welcomed Lota in, leaving the door ajar. Other servant machines, eager to hear stories, would soon follow, and this had become a new habit among the Mech Clan.
The two sat down in the living room.
As Mr. Lindsey was about to begin the lesson, Lota eagerly asked:
"Mr. Lindsey, did you just want those people to leave when you spoke to them earlier?"
Mr. Lindsey shook his head in denial:
"I was trying to soothe their emotions."
Lota was puzzled:
"Soothe their emotions?"
Mr. Lindsey patiently explained:
"Humans confined for an extended period in a limited space, without any labor, will inevitably develop psychological issues. Even if I encourage them like I did earlier, it might only delay their rampage for a little while, but it's impossible to eliminate the danger."
"..."
Lota fell silent.
The Mech Clan had never encountered such issues nor considered their implications. It was not a concern in their collective memory.
Humans, on the other hand, should emulate their creators, the Craftsmen.
Extended periods of isolation, self-sufficiency in resources, and mobilization only when necessary.
Lindsey waited a few seconds before speaking, "Lota, are we studying psychological matters today?"
Lota opened her mouth, ready to respond immediately.
But an unexpected message interrupted her question.
The Servant Doll's expression returned to calmness.
She waited a few seconds, receiving the transmitted information, and then promptly addressed Lindsey, "Mr. Lindsey, I'd like to know the answer to this question."
"However, the Calculation Core wishes to discuss something with you. Let's go underground today."
At this invitation, Lindsey turned to Leaf Haiya, and they exchanged a glance.
Success.
Since entering the underground facility, the Calculation Core had only met them twice. Other interactions were through message transmissions, summoning other Mech Clan members for communication.
Meetings were reserved for special occasions.
Hence, this sudden encounter could only mean one thing.
Lindsey's previous guidance in energy matters was bearing fruit!
"Of course, no problem," Lindsey replied, feeling delighted but maintaining a composed demeanor.
As before, he and the Servant Machine headed underground, leaving Leaf Haiya alone in the room to share stories with the arriving Servant Robots.
Along the way, Lindsey saw the Mech Clan members gathering to listen to the stories.
When they greeted Lindsey and Lota, they included the former in their group, treating him as one of their own.
Lindsey was pleased with this development.
He followed Lota further down, soon reaching the underground chamber where the Calculation Core was located.
The steel gate slid open, and a burst of heat rushed out.
"So hot?" Lindsey took a step back instinctively.
He then activated his Recon Skill and understood the situation.
Since their conversation a few days ago, the Calculation Core had been continuously performing calculations regarding the energy situation.
The Mech Clan's thought process was straightforward and direct.
Whether it was efficiency or friendliness, all optimal choices pointed to Lindsey and Leaf Haiya.
However, the burden of analysis over the past days had been heavy.
The Calculation Core, like an overheating CPU, exhibited this phenomenon due to the intense computational load.
Today, it was Lindsey standing there, unaffected by the heat.
An ordinary person would have suffered severe burns from such a blast.
Lindsey waited at the entrance for the heat to subside.
But within those few seconds, the Calculation Core in the room spoke first, its impatience unconcealed: "Mr. Lindsey, I called you here today with a request."
Hearing this, Lindsey was certain of the outcome.
Yet, he maintained an air of ignorance, "A request?"
"Is there knowledge in a particular field that you wish to inquire about?"
"No problem. As long as it's something I know, I'll teach you diligently and thoroughly."
And then, amidst the heat, the Calculation Core spoke the words Lindsey longed to hear: "Mr. Lindsey, I am embarrassed to say that today, I am not seeking your superb insight."
"You may decline today's invitation."
"I hope you can help us build an entirely new energy system."
