Chapter 843: Silence! The Dark Lord is Not Your Tool!
Chapter 843: Silence! The Dark Lord is Not Your Tool!
"You did very well this time, Pierce. You managed to get Hufflepuff's Relic for me in just a week, which is much faster than I expected", Ivan praised.
"I was merely following your instructions, Lord Hals..." Pierce responded humbly, showing no hint of taking credit for himself.
His words were partly flattery, but they also held a genuine element of truth.
After all, the Goblins at Gringotts were the quintessential example of greed over life.
Previously, to fulfill Ivan's order, he spent a lot of time negotiating, trying to get Gringotts to cooperate with the Ministry of Magic to open Bella's Vault and retrieve Hufflepuff's Cup.
To that end, Pierce even bluntly told them that Bella's Vault contained a very dangerous magical item, and improper handling could lead to serious consequences.
However, the Goblins completely ignored his orders as Acting Minister, maintaining a hard stance. They claimed that private property was sacred and inviolable, and they would only open the vault if Bella herself or her designated successor came in person. Otherwise, the assets would remain in Gringotts forever!
Such a challenge to the authority of the Ministry of Magic was something Pierce could not tolerate. However, Goblins had influence worldwide and were unusually united, making it a delicate situation. Even as Minister of Magic, he couldn't forcefully compel the Goblins to comply.
Thus, the two sides were at a stalemate until a few days ago when Ivan provided some "guidance." This changed Pierce's perspective.
The Ministry of Magic couldn't take action, but the Dark Lord could. Realizing this, Pierce immediately planned an attack.
Just as Ivan had predicted, the chaos that ensued made the Goblins much more cooperative. They even requested that the Ministry of Magic send Aurors to patrol Gringotts, something that would have been impossible before.
This method of dealing with Gringotts opened a new world for Pierce. If he planned carefully, he could use the Death Eaters to eliminate political rivals or leverage the Dark Lord's intimidation to pass important legislation, strengthening the Ministry of Magic's rule...
Pierce enthusiastically shared his many new ideas with Ivan. The latter rolled his eyes; he hadn't expected Pierce to come up with so many uses for the Dark Lord in just a few days.
"The Wizarding World is already chaotic enough, Pierce. You'd better keep a low profile for now. If you accidentally cause widespread panic, some Wizards might leave Britain", Ivan warned.
Using Voldemort as a tool could only be done once or twice, not repeatedly!
Collaborating with the Dark Lord to govern Britain was a necessary measure in this special period to stabilize the situation. Ivan didn't want Pierce to misinterpret it as a rule of terror.
Moreover, if someone found out, it would be extremely awkward.
After giving Pierce a few more pointers, Ivan asked, "What about Dumbledore's will stored at Gringotts? Did you get it?"
"I have it here!" Pierce immediately pulled a perfectly sealed envelope from his robes and handed it over, continuing, "I had the Department of Mysteries check it. The letter has been enchanted, and only a specific person can open it with magic."
Ivan nodded, took the envelope, and tentatively channeled some magic. The sealed envelope automatically tore open, revealing an internal space enlarged by an Extension Charm. Inside were two letters and a small, intricately designed object resembling a lighter.
Seeing his magic work, Ivan breathed a sigh of relief, putting his last worry to rest. He first examined the "lighter", recognizing it as a Deluminator, then took out the letters to read them.
Dumbledore's will was surprisingly brief, not the lengthy discourse Ivan had expected. In the first letter, the White Wizard simply mentioned the disposition of some of his personal property after his death.
All personal assets, including the private library and Magic instruments, were donated to Hogwarts. The remaining items related to the Dumbledore family were transferred to Aberforth.
There were also three specific bequests left to Hermione, Ron, and himself.
"That's odd, there's nothing for Harry..." Ivan furrowed his brow, a bit puzzled, but he continued reading patiently.
First, the Deluminator was left to Hermione Granger.
Ivan recalled that, if he wasn't mistaken, in the original Time and Space, Dumbledore had secretly cast a Magic spell on this device to guide Ron back to Harry and Hermione, reuniting the trio.
But now, Dumbledore had left it to Hermione.
Ivan instinctively picked up the small Deluminator and opened the System's inventory to examine it.
Magic Item: Deluminator
Magic: Low
Item Description: This is a delicate Magic artifact. By pressing the button, it can automatically absorb nearby light sources to recharge itself. With it, you won't need to get up to turn off the lights at night!
Note: The creator, Albus Dumbledore, attached an interesting little Magic to it.
Ivan's gaze swept over the Item Description and then shifted to the Note. As expected, Dumbledore had indeed tampered with the device, but unfortunately, the specific effects were not detailed in the inventory.
However, Ivan wasn't worried. Knowing there was an issue was half the battle. With his current Alchemy skills, a few days of patient research would surely yield some insights. Then he could decide whether to pass it on to Hermione.
With that thought, Ivan set the delicate Deluminator aside and turned his attention to another folded letter.
In Dumbledore's will, this letter was to be given to Ron and was protected by a Protective Magic spell. Only Ron himself could open it; any attempt to force it would result in the letter being automatically destroyed.
"Such a hassle!" Ivan's mood soured. Dumbledore's will was filled with so many twists and turns, like a puzzle. Why make it so complicated?
Who was he trying to protect against? Voldemort couldn't see it anyway...
Ivan muttered a few complaints to himself before finally reading the last part of the letter. Dumbledore had bequeathed the Sword of Gryffindor to him, along with a piece of advice.
Do not seek after ephemeral things. The power of knowledge and belief is the foundation of a Wizard's strength.
