Chapter 840: Voldemort's Ecstatic Rage
Chapter 840: Voldemort's Ecstatic Rage
Before Snape could finish speaking, a powerful aura descended upon them.
"I killed Dumbledore?!" Voldemort burst into a mocking laugh, his face contorted in a terrifying manner. "Very well... very well!"
"He dared to mock the Dark Lord again! Again!!!" Voldemort angrily waved his wand, and the wooden desk and chairs beside him exploded into splinters.
Wooden debris rained down, and Snape couldn't help but shudder, secretly regretting whether he had pushed things too far.
Fortunately, though Voldemort was furious, he had no intention of taking his anger out on Snape. After destroying a pile of furniture, he began pacing back and forth in the living room.
"Macnair, Goyle, Crabbe, Lucius... and Ivan Hals. Soon, they will all pay the price!" Voldemort ticked off the names of the traitors, his hatred focusing particularly on Ivan.
If he could, he would have rushed to Knockturn Alley immediately to tear them limb from limb, but he was well aware that he was no match for Ivan Hals at the moment. Acting rashly could lead to another crushing defeat.
"Master... master?!" Snape, seeing Voldemort lost in deep and troubled thought, gently called out.
"Severus, is there something else?" Voldemort snapped back to reality, frowning as he asked. He was worried that Snape might bring more bad news.
"This is about Dumbledore. Didn't you ask me to investigate his recent movements?" Snape inquired.
Voldemort nodded. Snape had reported to him that Dumbledore had been elusive since the start of the school year, even refusing to attend the Ministry of Magic's impeachment hearing. This had piqued his curiosity.
But now that Dumbledore was dead, he couldn't understand why Snape was bringing this up again.
"Master... I believe I have found the secret to Dumbledore's power... but I'm not certain if my suspicions are correct", Snape hesitated.
"Dumbledore's secret of power?" Voldemort murmured, then looked at Snape. "You can speak freely in front of me, Severus. I will not punish you, regardless of whether you are right or wrong."
With Voldemort's assurance, Snape slowly pulled a thick book from his robe pocket, placed it in front of Voldemort, and explained.
"In the six months Dumbledore was missing, he returned to Hogwarts several times. Each time he summoned me, he was reading this book in the Headmaster's Office..."
Voldemort glanced down, his brow furrowing. The book appeared to be a simple storybook, the pages slightly yellowed from frequent use. The title on the cover was clear and prominent: The Tales of Beedle the Bard.
"A bedtime story?" Voldemort's expression was one of impatience. "Are you sure Dumbledore wasn't just preparing to read a few stories to soothe the little brats at Hogwarts?"
If it weren't for the fact that Snape was the one presenting the book, he would have already cast the Killing Curse!
"Master, please believe me. I found this book in Dumbledore's robes before his burial. He always kept it close to him..." Snape hurriedly explained.
Voldemort finally showed a glimmer of interest. The thing Dumbledore guarded so carefully couldn't be an ordinary book.
"Additionally, I managed to steal Dumbledore's wand during his funeral", Snape said, pulling out the Elder Wand from his sleeve and presenting it to Voldemort.
The moment Voldemort saw the wand, his eyes narrowed. Having dealt with Dumbledore many times, he naturally recognized it as Dumbledore's wand.
"I didn't expect you to get this as well", Voldemort said appreciatively, reaching out to take the wand. The moment he touched it, he felt his magic resonate with the wand, and more importantly, he sensed an unimaginable power within it.
"Sectumsempra!" Voldemort couldn't resist testing the wand, and a beam as thick as an arm shot through the air.
In the next instant, the right wall exploded, and the entire mansion shook slightly.
Staring at the collapsed wall, Voldemort's expression was one of extreme surprise. He hadn't expected that a simple Cruciatus Curse, enhanced by this wand, could cause such destruction.
Voldemort cast another spell, and everything seemed to reverse. The scattered wood and stone fragments quickly gathered, and the wall that had been destroyed was restored to its original state in just a second.
"Excellent, very excellent! This is the very thing I've been seeking—a wand of unmatched power!" Voldemort grinned, carefully caressing the branches of the Elder Wand, his face beaming with excitement.
Since the night of his resurrection, when his Phoenix Wand suddenly lost control, he had been considering replacing it.
During this time, he hadn't been idle. Instead, he had searched through many British historical records and legends, finding some clues from scattered pieces of information, though he hadn't yet acted on them.
But now, it seemed that the wand before him matched the descriptions in those legends almost perfectly.
Perhaps he should have realized it sooner. Without such a powerful wand, how could the aged Dumbledore possibly be his match?
Voldemort grew more confident in his theory, but he didn't forget Snape's words. He turned his gaze to The Tales of Beedle the Bard.
If this book was so important to Dumbledore, it must contain some legends about the most powerful wand, or even methods to harness its power.
With this thought, Voldemort's eyes grew eager. He didn't ask Snape for more information but instead eagerly picked up the book and quickly flipped through it.
The Wizard and the Hopping Pot, The Fountain of Fair Fortune, The Warlock's Hairy Heart...
Voldemort's eyes rapidly scanned each page, finally pausing on one. His pale, slender fingers traced the description on the page.
"Elder Wand... Wand of Destiny... Deathly Hallows!" Voldemort murmured to himself, his expression bordering on madness. "So that's why this wand possesses such immense magic."
