Chapter 84: The Exam Before Leaving School
Chapter 84: The Exam Before Leaving School
It was two days later, and Ivan, who had been in the Hospital Wing for sO long that he felt like he was rusting, was finally allowed tO leave.
He had grown tired Of lying in bed and having tO take medicine every day.
If Madam Pomfrey hadn't insisted On the severe consequences Of leaving early, Ivan would have discharged himself long ago.
However, life after discharge wasn't much better, as the end-Of-term exams were just around the corner.
On the first day after leaving his bed, Hermione approached him with a stack Of thick books.
A History Of Magic, The Standard Book Of Spells, A Beginner's Guide tO Transfiguration, Magical Drafts and Potions
"There's Only a week left until the exams. I think you need tO catch up On the time you missed", Hermione said as she sat down next tO Ivan, Offering her advice.
"I remember these books. Haven't we already read them?" Ivan said blankly.
"How can that be the same? TO ace the exams, we need tO memorize these books!" Hermione said firmly, cutting Off Ivan before he could protest.
"I've already memorized them all. Besides, during the days you were absent, the Professors covered a lot Of new material. I'll fill you in On it later."
Ivan looked at the stack Of books, which was about half his height, and felt a headache coming On. He had nO interest in reviewing books he already understood thoroughly.
Ivan turned tO Harry and Ron, who were enthusiastically watching the commotion.
Noticing Ivan's gaze, Harry quickly stood up his book, and Ron even held his book upside down but pretended tO be studying diligently.
They didn't want tO attract Hermione's attention. With sO many books, they would be memorizing until next year.
Ivan pursed his lips, indicating tO Hermione that she should dO something about these two troublemakers.
"They're beyond hope!" Hermione stammered.
Harry and Ron, feeling defeated, buried their heads in their books, unable tO respond.
Fortunately, during the exams a week later, Harry and Ron discovered that their knowledge wasn't as poor as Hermione had claimed.
Other young wizards performed even worse, making them look relatively good. Ron was confident he would get an E in Charms and Herbology.
However, during the Potions exam, Ron lost his confidence. Snape frequently circled around their work area, making Harry and Ron nervous.
But the pressure was nothing tO Ivan. His Fourth-Year Potions Level wasn't for nothing. The Potions he brewed far exceeded the student level and could have been sold directly.
After he finished, Snape paused and scribbled something. Ivan could see it was a big O (Outstanding).
Harry's performance was also consistent, leaving Snape with nO chance tO criticize.
Next was the Transfiguration exam. Professor Mcgonagall required the students tO enter One by One and transform a small round piece Of wood into a button.
As long as the transformation was successful, it counted as passing. If someone could make a button Of the right size and add intricate patterns, they would receive the highest grade!
Ivan Observed for a while. Among the first-year students Of Gryffindor House, Only Hermione could achieve this, as she came Out Of the exam room with a smile.
"Ivan Hales!"
Professor Mcgonagall's voice called from inside the classroom.
Ivan composed himself and walked in. The spacious classroom had Only One long table, and Professor Mcgonagall was not looking at him but at the elegant button On the table.
Clearly, that was Hermione's exam piece.
"Professor Mcgonagall, can I start?" Ivan took Out his wand from his sleeve, eager tO begin.
"Of course, but I doubt these small tests pose any challenge tO you", Professor Mcgonagall looked up at Ivan, her eyes filled with satisfaction. She even drew a big O On the report card in front Of him.
Whether it was the Grim she had seen On the fourth floor Or the stretcher Ivan had transfigured in front Of her a few days ago, Professor Mcgonagall knew that Ivan's Transfiguration skills far exceeded those Of his peers.
The exam, in essence, was for the Professors tO gauge the students' progress. This exam clearly couldn't measure Ivan's true abilities.
"SO, dO I not need tO take the exam?" Ivan asked, puzzled.
"NO, I have another task for you. How about trying tO transform an Object into a living creature? You can turn it into anything you like", Professor Mcgonagall took a new piece Of wood from her drawer and promised that Ivan's exam score would not be affected, regardless Of whether he succeeded Or not.
It was just an additional test.
Ivan nodded. He also wanted tO test the limits Of his Transfiguration skills.
He began tO visualize the form Of the creature in his mind, eventually settling On an Owl. This was partly inspired by Dumbledore's transformation, and he wanted tO replicate it.
A true transformation into a living creature, irreversible!
Professor Mcgonagall watched quietly, wondering why Ivan hadn't started yet, when she saw him suddenly wave his wand, the tip lightly touching the round piece Of wood.
This transformation was very slow.
Transforming a small piece Of wood, Only ten centimeters in size, into a living creature as large as an Owl was an extremely difficult task.
Ivan recalled the moment Of his magical surge in the Room of Requirement, trying tO infuse his magic into the wood, analyze its structure, and then change its form and even its nature!
Having had some experience, Ivan proceeded smoothly, but he encountered difficulties in transforming a living creature because he didn't understand the structure Of flesh and cells.
Perhaps this was why the "Phoenix" he had created earlier exploded upon the infusion Of magic!
"Wait, flesh and cells?" Ivan suddenly realized something. His Own body was the key.
He could use his magic tO analyze his Own body.
With this in mind, Ivan immediately began, first focusing his magic On his pinky finger for a test. Once he confirmed it was safe, he gradually extended it tO his entire body.
However, in his normal state, Ivan couldn't penetrate the cells deeply and could Only analyze the general structure. He also dared not experiment with important parts.
Even sO, it was enough. The round piece Of wood On the table began tO stretch and transform into the shape Ivan had envisioned.
