Chapter 84: Kakashi Grows Up
Chapter 84: Kakashi Grows Up
Just as Yuhi Kurenai and the others were stunned into silence, a figure flashed into the clearing. He had short, golden hair, and as soon as he landed, he threw out six or seven kunai before taking in the situation around him.
"Looks like you're alright," Minato Namikaze said, his tension easing as he noticed the two bodies on the ground. "Were they scouts from the Sand Village?"
Patrol duty wasn't exclusive to Kurenai's team; his team was also in the vicinity. These types of missions were usually meant to train the genin in the team.
After all, these genin weren't ready for the front lines yet, so these types of missions were more suitable for their level. Typically, a chunin would lead the team, and a jounin would also lead when they didn't have other assignments.
"No," Kurenai Yuhi replied, slightly relieved to see Namikaze. "They were two jounin from the Sand Village. It's probably not as simple as just gathering intelligence."
She paused for a moment, looking towards Fengye who was approaching, and asked, "Are you Flagwood Fengye? Thank you for your timely assistance. But how did you happen to be here?"
"The Hokage sent me to this frontline camp," Fengye explained as he walked over. He glanced at the wound on Yuhi's shoulder and asked, "How's your injury?"
"It's fine..." Yuhi assessed that the wound wasn't too serious, as she still had feeling in her right arm.
At that moment, Hinata Hyuga and the others finally snapped out of their daze and rushed over. Hinata went straight to Kurenai's side, her eyes filled with concern as she checked on her injury. Only after she was somewhat reassured did she turn to look at Fengye.
However, Fengye was in conversation with Namikaze at that moment.
"Do you have orders from the Hokage?" Namikaze asked, holding a Hiraishin kunai and maintaining a calm demeanor. He hadn't let down his guard completely, as he hadn't witnessed Fengye slaying the two Sand Village jounin and rescuing Hinata. He couldn't be sure of Fengye's identity just yet.
Fengye didn't mind and pulled out a small scroll, handing it to Namikaze. Instead of reading it, Namikaze made a single-handed seal, causing the scroll to emit a faint light.
"My apologies..." Namikaze relaxed his guard and offered a slight smile to Fengye.
Fengye nodded in understanding. "It's fine. This is a battlefield, and I would've confirmed identities too if I were you. But why are you alone here, Jounin Namikaze?"
Namikaze confirmed Fengye's identity after checking the special scroll and code used for communication. However, Fengye had identified him from the start due to his distinctive teleportation technique and the Hiraishin kunai he threw immediately upon landing—these were Namikaze's signature moves.
Fengye even noticed that there were more Hiraishin kunai lodged in the branches of nearby trees, placed there at some point earlier.
No wonder Tobirama Senju, the Second Hokage and creator of the Hiraishin technique, considered Namikaze's skill superior to his own, with faster reflexes to boot.
"No, I was patrolling the area with Kakashi and the others," Namikaze explained. "They're a bit slower, but they should be here soon."
"I see," Fengye nodded.
At that moment, Hinata found an opportunity to speak, but she didn't know what to say. She just stood there, her large eyes fixed on Fengye.
Ever since Fengye graduated, Hinata had fewer opportunities to interact with him, especially after the war started and they were assigned different missions. Her impressions of him were fading, but this recent encounter had left a deep impression that wouldn't fade anytime soon.
The reason she had been dazed earlier was that she thought Fengye might not have handled the situation so clumsily. But instead, he had appeared in a nearly dreamlike fashion and disposed of the two opponents as if they were ordinary people.
One of them was even a ninja that had given their team of four a hard time.
"That was really dangerous just now."
Noticing Kurenai's gaze, Fengye smiled at her silence and took the initiative to speak up.
Although he wasn't entirely clear on the previous situation, Minato Namikaze's arrival gave him a vague idea. He estimated that even if he hadn't shown up, as long as Kurenai avoided a fatal blow to the heart, even if a major blood vessel was pierced, Namikaze could have instantly taken out the two Jonin.
After all, there were medical ninja in the squad, and with immediate first aid, it wouldn't have been life-threatening.
Of course,
The current outcome was undoubtedly better. After all, Namikaze would have been a step too slow, and even if Kurenai survived, she would have been severely injured and in a dangerous state.
"Th-thank you..."
Kurenai looked at Fengye, with a thousand words she wanted to say, but in the end, she hesitated and only managed to express her gratitude.
Hinata's father, Hyuga Hiashi, glanced at Fengye.
Seeing his daughter's reaction, he could easily guess the relationship between the two. He didn't have any objections and was even slightly shocked by the speed Fengye had displayed earlier.
The fact that the two Jonin from the Sand Village were taken down in an instant also meant that he would be equally unable to withstand Fengye's speed. Despite his young age, Fengye was already an incredibly formidable ninja!
"You're welcome. I'm just glad you're unharmed," Fengye said with a smile, seeing Kurenai's expression.
The current Kurenai was probably only ten years old, quite different from the mature and sexy woman she would become in a decade or so. It was interesting to watch these familiar characters grow up over time.
With that thought, Fengye turned his head toward a particular direction. From the trees in that direction, he could already hear some movement, and soon enough, three figures emerged from the forest and landed on the ground.
"Where's the enemy?!"
Uchiha Obito brandished a kunai, ready for battle the moment he touched down.
Kakashi rolled his eyes. They could no longer hear any sounds of battle, and with Namikaze's early arrival, it was obvious the fight was over.
What surprised him, though, was that in addition to Namikaze and some familiar Konoha ninja, there was also someone he hadn't seen in a long time—his brother, Hatake Fengye.
He stared at Fengye in bewilderment, never expecting to meet him here.
"Fengye?! What are you doing here?"
The speaker was not Kakashi but a delighted Rin Nohara.
Fengye greeted Rin with a wave and a smile. "Just passing by..."
Shush!
As his voice trailed off, Fengye disappeared without a sound, only to reappear behind Kakashi, his hand gently resting on Kakashi's head.
Kakashi reacted instantly the moment Fengye vanished from his sight. He ducked his head and spun around, throwing a punch backward.
Pa!
His fist was easily caught by Fengye.
"Looks like you've grown quite a bit, Kakashi."
