Chapter 84: Author's Note on Going VIP
Chapter 84: Author's Note on Going VIP
Sigh! Stupid writing machine, what should you write?
What do you want to write!
This was my thought before I started the book.
First, let's talk about what everyone is concerned about—the explosive updates today as we go VIP.
I really don't want to do this. I don't have any stock chapters, and I'm not a full-time author. This is a very exaggerated thing, you know!
But still, I want to thank everyone for reading this book.
There are no rules about votes or the number of initial subscriptions. Let's keep it simple—five updates. Just as a way to thank the readers who have supported me this far.
Then, it's the usual tune.
Thank you to the editor, the readers, those who pointed out errors, those who rewarded me, those who added the book to their collections, and those who voted.
It might sound a bit formulaic.
But every word is typed by my own hands, and it comes from the heart. I hope you can feel the passion in my heart, right?
Finally, the additional update rules: [This doesn't exist.]
My initial goal remains the same—I'm lazy...
What I mean is: Two updates a day, with consistency.
Additional updates will be random.
The relationship between the readers and me should not be misunderstood.
If someone reads my work and enjoys it, and if they are happy enough to subscribe and vote, that's great.
But if I make the readers vote or reward first, and then I add updates as a response, that would be putting the cart before the horse.
My primary goal is to write interesting stories. Making money is just a fortunate event in the process of writing stories.
If I treat writing as a money-making tool, the process might distort the purpose, which is terrifying and very terrifying, with great fear!
Of course, this is just one person's opinion, for a laugh.
【↑】The VIP note ends here.
Below is just some rambling, suggested to skip.【↓】
Story! Story! story!
A good novel has only one focus—the story.
From the previous book to this one, I have been trying to hone my skills in this area. Although progress is minimal, even a tiny bit of improvement is enough to make me happy.
In the original plan, this book was meant to follow the style of web novels, focusing on monster hunting and leveling up.
But after trying to write the opening, I found I'm not suited for this style. Forcing myself to write something I can't, is a waste of time and a disservice to readers.
So I stopped and added elements I like—[game].
This made it better.
What else do I want to write?
I want to write about Lin Sai's adventures, gaining abilities, and the consequences of those abilities. What will he do with that power? What will he surpass, and what will he do?
He won't just beat a powerful enemy and save the world.
There will also be choices in the face of conflicts and the responsibilities that come with power.
And if power is responsibility, to whom is it responsible?
To one's own heart or the moral model of the current situation?
Of course, the above is just a joke.
With my current writing skills, to write such stories might be a dream of a fool.
But one must challenge oneself.
If the task is too easy, it would be boring.
Let's talk about the story ideas for this book.
I started reading web novels when I was very young, around elementary school, and I haven't stopped since the early 2000s.
The undeniable fact is that time flows, and people's preferences for novels change. I tell the stupid self, not just the real world but also the world in stories, created by writers, changes with the times.
The past is not the present.
What I like might not be what others like now.
But to hone story-telling skills and write touching words, what kind of novel should I write?
A traditional, wondrous, and true story.
It might abandon some sensational and unconventional elements, and there will be many parts that are not as thrilling, which would undoubtedly lose a significant portion of readers if placed in a web novel, as such a story is destined to lack a powerful initial draw.
But adhering to my creative heart, I need to exercise my storytelling abilities.
So, even if it may not be well-received, I shall begin writing.
And such a book can still be written well.
Perhaps not many, but there will surely be some who appreciate it.
In the midst of a hectic lifestyle, with rapidly changing moral concepts and psychological factors, people tend to favor the immediate burst of fireworks. This is akin to the rise of short videos, which are pushing out longer-form content on video platforms.
However, some things are destined to remain unchanged.
I'd like to borrow a quote from an author I admire:
"This is rather unsettling. Despite our love for the splendor of impermanence and the allure of flashing neon lights, we still yearn for unchanging things. We cherish timeless old stories: King Arthur eternally slumbering in Avalon; Bilbo can go 'there' and 'there' is always the beloved, familiar Shire; Don Quixote tilting at windmills... "
I aspire to find a sense of permanence, ancient truths, and unchanging rules in my writing. Perhaps the neon lights of the online world have already engulfed people's lives.
Many seek solace in videos and novels, seeking more inner joy in fantasy worlds to escape the relentless pressure of reality.
Someone once said:
"Oh, no one will read your novel if you write like that. Today's readers can't handle it."
But I believe people's capacity for appreciation far surpasses what they imagine.
What suffocates is the half-baked, the imitation, the false replica, the seemingly plausible but ultimately misleading.
Numerous excellent web novel authors have already proven this.
What people seek in books goes beyond mere surface-level stimulation. The future and infinite possibilities, the vast expanse of knowledge and imagination, are what readers deserve and what the world of novels should aspire to.
I, too, hope to reach such a future.
Sigh...
I've rambled on with these strange thoughts.
Perhaps this is merely my own musing. Maybe it's just a bizarre fantasy of a person who speaks nonsense, and the direction of web novels is to stimulate readers' emotions in exchange for value.
In any case, I shall proceed at my own pace.
