Chapter 838: Darkseid Arrives (Second Update)
"We are all under Darkseid's surveillance now. I am transmitting this message directly into your minds. The plan is as follows..."
Jerry nodded in agreement and began transmitting the message. At this point, there was no need to keep anything secret.
Although he had brought Superman and the others primarily for show, they weren't entirely useless. At the very least, if Darkseid really did show up in person, they could serve as a distraction.
The group exchanged glances and then nodded in unison.
A moment later, everyone except Superman looked utterly astonished.
What they had heard was astounding: Jerry could summon billions of Kryptonian warriors as powerful as Superman at any time to aid in battle. This was fucking unbelievable!
"What do we do next? We'll follow your lead."
Bruce took the lead in responding, and the others nodded in agreement.
Meanwhile, in Darkseid's palace on Apokolips.
"Steppenwolf has betrayed us, and Grace has been defeated. This is quite interesting. I didn't expect Earth to produce such figures after the Age of Old Gods ended."
As Desaad reported the situation, Darkseid's face showed a keen interest.
Five thousand years ago, Darkseid had led an invasion of Earth in the universe where the Mother Box resided. At the time, he was not yet the ruler of Apokolips and was only eight years old.
Due to the interference of Earth's Old Gods, he not only suffered severe injuries but also lost the Mother Box, which allowed him to travel freely between universes.
As he grew more powerful and obtained the Omega Effect, he wanted to avenge his earlier defeat; however, since he had traveled through the Mother Box and lacked the specific coordinates of Earth in that universe, his plans were put on hold.
This time, the Mother Box had reacted, and Darkseid, considering his current status and power, felt it would be an overestimation of Earth to go there himself. So, he sent Steppenwolf to conquer it.
He never expected Steppenwolf to betray him and bring the Earthlings to Apokolips, where they destroyed his magic forces and an elite subordinate.
"Master, rest assured. I will send troops to bring their heads to you."
Desaad bowed slightly.
Despite the loss of ten thousand Witches and Grace's defeat, Desaad showed no signs of panic.
He knew that the Earthlings were not truly that powerful. They had only achieved their current success by using the Mother Box and with the help of Steppenwolf's surprise attack.
In a typical war, the Witches, who generally had weak physical bodies, would stay in the rear, casting various spells while the Parademons and warriors from various races formed the frontline.
The Earth Mage had been able to kill ten thousand Witches because the Witch forces on Apokolips were completely unprepared.
Under normal circumstances, no one could breach Apokolips' defenses and attack the Witch forces before anyone could react.
The Earth invader had managed to do so thanks to the power of the Mother Box.
Moreover, the Earth Mage's magic was not really that strong. Many of the Witches who had slightly better physical strength survived.
This indicated that if the Earth Mage's magic had targeted Apokolips' warrior forces, it likely wouldn't have killed many.
More importantly, through Grace, Desaad had learned that the Earth Mage had no more magic power after casting that spell, suggesting that the Mage wasn't all that powerful.
As for Grace, she had simply encountered someone who could counter her abilities.
Considering all this, Desaad believed that sending a few more elites and some powerful warriors would be enough to handle the situation.
However, Darkseid waved his hand:
"I will go myself!"
"Master, these insignificant worms do not deserve your personal attention."
Desaad bent over, his face showing surprise. He knew very well just how powerful Darkseid was.
Darkseid explained:
"I just want to know why Steppenwolf dared to rebel, and I will bring all the Dark Elite with me to see."
Normally, such matters wouldn't require his personal intervention, but he wanted to understand the reason for his uncle's betrayal and to show all the Dark Elite the consequences of betraying him.
After conquering ten thousand universes, some might appear loyal on the surface, but their hearts might have already harbored other thoughts. It was time for a reminder.
Desaad, who understood Darkseid well, quickly caught on and respectfully replied:
"Yes, Master, I will gather all the Dark Elite immediately!"
"It seems the great one has arrived!"
Jerry looked at the dark mass in the sky and the powerful presence standing out among them, his face showing a hint of concern.
The worst-case scenario: Darkseid had come with all his subordinates.
But fortunately, he had a plan for this situation.
"Greetings, esteemed Lord Darkseid of Apokolips. I am Jerry Carmen, a mage from Earth!"
When Darkseid and his followers approached, Jerry didn't wait for them to speak. He elegantly and politely introduced himself and greeted them.
Darkseid sat on his floating throne, looking down at Jerry and then scanning the people behind him:
"Human mages from Earth, Kryptonians, Atlanteans, Amazons with half Old God bloodlines, more Atlanteans, Martians, ordinary humans, and humans with Old God powers, and my foolish uncle.
I am curious, how did you all have the nerve to directly attack my Apokolips?"
"Attack Apokolips? No, I think Lord Darkseid must have misunderstood. We came to Apokolips to meet you and have a friendly exchange."
Jerry wore an innocent expression.
Darkseid, expressionless, pointed to the Witch forces' base behind Jerry and the unconscious Grace in the Martian Manhunter's hands.
The meaning was clear: Are you kidding me?
"Oh, that was a misunderstanding. When we arrived, I got a bit too excited and accidentally cast a spell, causing damage here. I apologize for that.
As for this lady, she attacked us without listening to our explanations, so we had to knock her out.
To show our sincerity, we did not harm her."
Jerry's tone and expression were exceptionally sincere, as if what he said was the truth.
Darkseid, however, twitched his mouth and then spoke in a cold voice:
"Since you are here, you will stay. Your bodies will be useful in creating fine warriors. As for my uncle, I will make you understand the dire consequences of betraying me, Darkseid."
As he finished speaking, the Dark Elite, each looking formidable, were about to lead their subordinates forward to capture Jerry and the others.
"Lord Darkseid, please, no need to get angry. Let's talk this out. I have information about the Anti-Life Equation!"
Jerry remained calm, smiling and revealing his trump card.
