Chapter 838: Burned to Death?
Chapter 838: Burned to Death?
"The effect of Black Core, remove Destiny Hero - Doctrine from play!"
The Distorted Black Core radiated streaks of Black Lightning, distorting even the space around it with its flickering electricity.
As the energy released from the core intensified, it eventually engulfed the Doctrine on Ed's field, causing his body to twist and spin like a crumpled piece of paper. He was sucked into the black vortex along with the swirling currents until he disappeared without a trace.
"Hmph, so you think you can keep chipping away at my Life Points with this kind of tactic just because your attacks are sealed?"
The Bishop smirked.
"But this strategy won't work on me!"
The clergy beside him chuckled in agreement.
"Looks like the professional star player is only this good."
"The inexperienced brat should just go home!"
"He's no match for the Bishop!"
". . ."
Ed seemed unaffected by the barrage of trash talk, maintaining his calm smile.
"If you think Black Core is merely an offensive tool, then you're too naive." A golden light flashed in the Bishop's graveyard, and he slowly revealed the card he had discarded during the previous turn, "When I activated Black Core, I discarded this card.
Cageo Zeta Star!"
The Bishop displayed the monster card in his hand, and simultaneously, a giant-clawed alien silhouette with purple crystals all over its body flashed across the field.
"Zeta Star's effect, while this card is in the graveyard, each time an opponent's monster is removed from play, I can Special Summon an 'Extraterrestrial Life Token' on my field.
Since Destiny Hero - Doctrine was just removed from play, I Special Summon the 'Extraterrestrial Life Token'!"
[Extraterrestrial Life Token, Defense Power 500]
"Then, the effect of the other Cageo Zeta Star in my hand!" The Bishop continued, "Zeta Star can Special Summon itself from the hand by Tributing an 'Extraterrestrial Life Token' on the field.
So, I Tribute the Token on the field, and from the distant stars, an angel arrives...
...Cageo Zeta Star, Summon!"
A purple light pillar descended from the sky, forming several floating crystals in mid-air. From these crystals, a transparent body began to take shape, eventually transforming into the image of a raging alien with sharp claws.
[Cageo Zeta Star, Attack Power 2400]
"By removing my monster from play, you're also setting up for your ace's appearance, I see." Ed understood, "A deck focused on removal through exclusion, is it?"
The Bishop smirked, "This will also be the last deck you'll face in your Duelist career.
I'll continue by Flip Summoning the monster I Set face-down last turn.
Flip Summon Death Camel!"
[Death Camel, Attack Power 500]
"When Death Camel is successfully Flip Summoned, I draw a card from my deck."
The Bishop drew a card.
"Then, let's battle!
Cageo Zeta Star, attack Destiny Hero - Resolute!"
Zeta Star roared, as if it had been holding back its anger, and with its giant claws, it lunged at Resolute.
Ed didn't back down, "Then, I activate the Trap, D-Spirit! When a Destiny Hero on my field is attacked, this card becomes an Equip Card for that monster.
I equip D-Spirit to Destiny Hero - Resolute!"
With the Trap's equipment, Resolute immediately crouched down, switching to a defensive stance. Numerous stone blocks floated in front of him, forming a floating shield.
"The monster equipped with D-Spirit changes to Defense Position." Ed explained, "And, the equipped monster won't be destroyed by battle!"
[Destiny Hero - Resolute, Defense Power 800]
Zeta Star's full-power attack hit Tenaciousman, but the white claws were forcefully repelled by the floating shield, leaving not a scratch.
"Tsk, can't you even destroy in battle?" The Bishop scoffed.
With this, the attacks on his side were indirectly blocked as well. Unless he used a monster with a piercing effect, as long as Tenaciousman remained on the field, he couldn't deal any damage.
"Then, the Battle Phase ends." The Bishop said, "But I'll activate the effect of 'Death Camel'.
This card can be activated once per turn, allowing it to return to face-down Defense Position."
Death Camel went back underground, becoming a face-down card again.
With neither side able to attack, Death Camel transformed into a card-drawing artifact, allowing one card to be drawn each turn.
"Finally, I'll set a card and end my turn."
"My turn, draw!" Aid said, "Last turn's 'Destiny Hero - Diamondman's' effect.
A golden light blossomed in his graveyard, and the shadow of last turn's magic card appeared in mid-air.
"Last turn, I drew the magic card 'Adversity Amulet'.
No mistakes, read the 69 book! 69+book_ First release of this novel.
This card's effect is, when your opponent has a Special Summoned monster and you have no monsters on your field, I draw two cards from my deck."
"But you have 'Destiny Hero - Tenaciousman' on your field," the Bishop pointed out.
"I know."
Aid chuckled lightly.
"However, Diamondman's effect is to activate the effect of that magic card, and it's just an 'effect'. The activation cost can be ignored.
So, I directly draw two cards from my deck."
Aid drew two cards and revealed one of them.
"Quick-Play Spell 'Interdimensional Burial', return up to three monster cards that were removed from play to the graveyard."
"Now, there's only one monster card removed from play," the Bishop said.
"That's right, I return 'Destiny Hero - Doctrine' to the graveyard!" Aid said, "Then, I activate the Continuous Trap 'Voice of the Undead', revive a monster from the graveyard in Attack Position.
I revive 'Destiny Hero - Doctrine' from the graveyard!"
Of course, in the real card game, Doctrine couldn't be used like this. In the real game, Doctrine can only be Special Summoned by having three Destiny Heroes on the field, and even if it had been properly summoned before, it couldn't be revived from the graveyard. But just like Tenjou's Elemental Hero Fusion Monsters in the anime, after Doctrine is properly summoned, the revival restriction is lifted, allowing it to be summoned by other means.
"Return to my side, Destiny Hero - Doctrine!"
[Destiny Hero - Doctrine, ATK 3400]
The Bishop gritted his teeth.
"This damn hero won't end, huh?"
But he quickly calmed down and said, "However, the effect of 'Light Seal Sword' is still active, and it's only the second turn of your turn. Even if you recalled your ace, you still can't attack this turn."
"Ah, I understand."
Aid smiled slightly.
"So, I'll summon 'Destiny Hero - Killer'."
[Destiny Hero - Killer, ATK 1700]
Aid: "Killer's effect, send a 'Destiny Hero' from my hand to the graveyard and inflict 500 damage to the opponent!"
He sent a card from his hand to the graveyard, and Killer leaped into action, slamming a ball of light from his hand like a slam dunk, and it exploded right on the Bishop's face.
"Ugh!"
[Bishop, LP 2000 → 1500]
The Bishop's face slightly changed, and uneasiness began to stir within him.
Damn it! Am I going to be burned to death before the Light Seal effect ends?
