Chapter 836: Shinazugawa's Appearance
Chapter 836: Shinazugawa's Appearance
"Hey, even if she's a special demon as you say, she's still a demon. Are you planning to break the rules and shield a demon, even as Pillars?"
Impatience crept into Shinbei's voice, his tone turning irritable. He could tolerate Giyuu obstructing him, but now it seemed like Shinobu also intended to shield the demon, which displeased him greatly. In his eyes, even if Nezuko was unique and protected humans, she was still a demon. Eventually, she would eat people and turn into a malevolent demon.
All demons followed this pattern. Even if they could maintain their human consciousness initially, the scent of blood would trigger their instincts, and abstaining from feeding on humans for extended periods would drive them into a frenzied state, causing them to lose their rationality entirely. These were facts known to all Pillars.
"Well, the word 'shield' is a bit of an exaggeration, Mr. Shinazugawa. I never intended to shield a demon. However, this child's condition piques my curiosity, and I believe she could be an interesting subject for in-depth research experiments."
Kocho Ukon responded with a serene smile
But that smile caused Tanjiro's body to stiffen, and he asked in a flustered tone, "Ah, um, what do you mean by research experiments...?"
"It's mostly blood drawing and examinations. Rest assured, she hasn't eaten anyone, and I won't let her experience pain. In the end, I'll use a painless poison to ensure she passes away peacefully."
Kocho Shinobi replied with a smile.
Tanjiro's body turned rigid, his heart filled with chaos. This had to be a joke, right?
Tenseiga Shimmy's irritable expression softened slightly, and he said, "If that's the case, then do as you please."
He glanced at Tomioka Giyu beside him. If even Butterfly Ninja suddenly got the idea to shield a demon, he wouldn't be able to accept it. However, he didn't mind Tomioka Giyu's actions since the man often did things that seemed unreliable.
Tanjiro's friend, Zenitsu's mentor, and the strongest Water Hashira, Giyu Tomioka, furrowed his brows slightly as he observed Shinobu Kocho and Mitsuri Kanroji. He turned to look at Tanjiro Kamado and Nezuko Kamado, feeling a twinge of reluctance in his heart. But it was impossible for him to stop two Pillars by himself, especially since he wasn't entirely sure of the situation and couldn't directly clash with Mitsuri Kanroji and Shinobu Kocho.
He sheathed his sword and said just one sentence.
"I think we should let our leader make the judgment."
"Is it necessary to trouble our leader with such a minor matter? Are you trying to make our already busy leader even more overwhelmed?"
Miyabi Undoukai spoke up, his dissatisfaction clear as he directly confronted Giyuu Tomioka.
Tomoka Yoshiyuki remained silent, his gaze fixed on Butterfly Ninja
Meanwhile, Hachibi smiled and walked towards Tanjiro and Nezuko, intending to restrain them first.
Tanjiro, feeling a strong sense of threat from the approaching Butterfly Ninja, experienced a rapid heartbeat and a heaving chest. His heart felt like it would leap out of his body, and he finally shouted at Nezuko, "Run, Nezuko!"
Mitzuko, who had been baring her fangs threateningly at Hachibi Ren, paused at Tanjiro's words. She hesitated slightly, but ultimately obeyed her brother, turning her head and running away quickly across the snowy ground.
Here is the full translation:
This action caused Tanjiro Kamado to glance at Zenitsu Agatsuma once more
Putting aside his sister, who had turned into a demon, Tanjiro, the older brother, might have the potential to become a demon hunter. After all, in such a situation, he was still able to pick up a weapon to protect his sister, although he was still a bit weak.
However, Kochou Shinobu merely looked at Tanjiro with gentle eyes. Since Tanjiro was neither a demon hunter nor a demon at the moment, and she could sense his kindness and warmth, she naturally held no ill will towards him. Protecting the demon was simply a matter of familial affection.
Tanjiro's heart tightened, but Butterfly Ninja's movements were so swift that he could barely see them, let alone react.
Just as Butterfly Ninja was about to catch up to Nezuko, about to strike her with a descending sword, a rusty and crude-looking hatchet suddenly appeared, blocking and parrying her attack.
Another twist!
Even Butterfly Ninja was taken aback by this turn of events. She instinctively leaped back a few meters, startled that someone had appeared before her without her noticing. Upon closer inspection, she noticed a young girl standing in front of Nezuko, dressed in a simple black cloth and appearing to be around twelve or thirteen years old.
The girl, Kagaya Hime, was younger than everyone present. She held a rusty hatchet as if she had come to chop wood, and her demeanor suggested she was unrelated to the demon-slaying corps.
"Kanae-chan!" Tanjiro exclaimed in surprise, recognizing the girl.
Kanae Kocho, who lived alone in the town below the mountain, was a cute and seemingly parentless girl. Tanjiro, often helping out in town, felt sorry for the young girl living by herself, so he would frequently assist her with tasks like delivering charcoal. He saw Kanae as a little sister and was overjoyed to see her here.
However, he never expected her to suddenly appear, let alone display such bravery by blocking Butterfly Ninja's attack.
"Could you please refrain from harming them?" Kanae requested softly after blocking Butterfly Ninja's strike.
Fengye had once experimented on her, causing her sealed heart to open up a little. His observation of her didn't stop there, and afterward, he arranged for her to live in the town below the mountain.
It was also during Fengye's observation that she came to know Tanjiro's family, though he never interfered.
Having once been granted the ability to observe the world by Fengye, and possessing the perspective to discern all things in the world, she still retained knowledge of many things even after losing that power.
She knew that Fengye was a god, and as one who served him, she was akin to a priestess. However, it had been a long time since she had received any divine messages from him, and he had only instructed her to live in this town long ago.
Tanjiro was a kind child, and his family was as well.
Following her heart, Kanae, who had been observing from a distance, ultimately chose to intervene.
Far away, Shinazugawa and Tomioka's gazes shifted towards the commotion, their expressions changing slightly.
Unlike Butterfly Ninja, who was focused on Nezuko, Shinazugawa and Tomioka, watching from a distance, clearly captured Kanae's astonishing movements.
The girl, appearing to be only twelve or thirteen, moved with incredible speed. She seemed to appear out of thin air, floating like a ghost with a rusty, old hatchet in hand, yet she managed to deflect the Insect Hashira's sword!
So fast.
Both Shinazugawa and Tomioka were startled by the display.
"Things just keep getting more and more complicated," Butterfly Ninja muttered to herself. "That child has turned into a demon, and you can't protect her... Also, you seem vaguely familiar. Have we met somewhere before?" she asked, tilting her head curiously at Kanae.
Kanae lowered the rusty hatchet and politely bowed to Butterfly Ninja. "You must be Shinobu-neechan. Thank you for buying me from the human traffickers. I never got the chance to thank you properly," she said softly.
Kanae still retained her past memories and recalled the names and faces of Butterfly Ninja and Shinobu, although the former had changed significantly since then.
