Chapter 836: Lan Chi's Preparations for the Final Battle
Chapter 836: Lan Chi's Preparations for the Final Battle
Lan Chi glanced at the sky outside the rose window.
It was about time to wrap up their conversation, as their objective had been achieved. Staying any longer in the office for a private talk with Principal Violet might raise suspicions.
"Principal Violet, are you able to cast a divine spell similar to the Purifying Mind Charm?" Lan Chi asked, his final question before leaving with the cat in his arms.
Divine spells like the Purifying Mind Charm, which could dispel negative conditions such as mental, curse, and illusion effects, were mastered by high-level priests like the Ice Maiden and Loren. However, it was still an eighth-rank spell.
On the other hand, Duke Lashar's Blood Heart Control was a ninth-rank power that transcended the realm of living beings.
Against an eighth-rank Archangel, it would be challenging for a dispel spell to completely hit its mark and be effective.
Furthermore, if the mental negative condition was of a higher rank, even the Ice Maiden's divine spell might not be able to remove it. It could only reflect the negative condition.
Unless there was a more targeted dispel spell, perhaps a high-level priestess of the Moon Goddess might have a way to break the curse.
This was also the reason why Violet, the sixth Archangel of Aquamarine, had an extremely low chance of being controlled, according to the Ice Maiden. As the high priestess of the Moon Goddess, Violet might not be affected by mental control magic at all.
Of course, there was a prerequisite for being controlled by Blood Heart Control—having a mental crack. If one's mind was flawless, Duke Lashar's power would be ineffective. On the other hand, someone like the Ninth Archangel, Marquis Ryan, who had obvious mental scars, had almost no way to counter Duke Lashar.
"It is possible, but it would be difficult to dispel a ninth-rank mental control using the Barrier of the Flawless Land of the Elsia Sanctuary. First, the caster's power would need to be weakened to a certain extent, significantly reducing their spiritual strength. Additionally, I would need to locate the source of the spiritual pollution, which is the caster, to have a chance to temporarily disrupt their interference with the mental magic of other living beings through purification."
Violet contemplated for a moment before confirming.
Although it was challenging, she did have a possible countermeasure.
"Since there is a way to counter it, I feel more at ease. With you at the rear, our chances of victory have greatly increased."
Lan Chi expressed his gratitude to Violet once again, bidding her farewell in the principal's office.
With Violet providing backup and interception, Lan Chi no longer had to worry. He could focus all his efforts on destroying the Blood Moon City.
Once the ancient home of the vampires was destroyed, they would lose their sanctuary, a place that had protected them for countless generations in the shadows.
...
Winter nights in Krythia arrived early.
After a couple of hours, it was already deep into the night.
The sky was painted with a layer of dark ink, and stars and a white moon adorned the night sky.
After his private conversation with Principal Violet, Lan Chi left her office.
As expected, Secretary Nera was still waiting outside the door.
At this hour, there were no school buses, so Professor Landry would likely have to walk back alone, carrying the large cat. Nera had arranged to send him home.
Led by Secretary Nera, they left the main hall's corridor.
Lan Chi waited briefly, and Secretary Nera had already moved the silver magical vehicle to the road. He boarded the vehicle.
With a soft hum, the vehicle departed from the magnificent main hall of Saint Kreithi Monastery, heading towards the residential area of the monastery.
"Professor Landry, how did your meeting with the principal go?" Secretary Nera asked as she drove Lan Chi away from the main hall area.
"There were no issues. Principal Violet is a good person," Lan Chi replied, gazing at the monastery's night view from the window.
"Of course. So, tonight, Violet's Julius will pay for his sins. He will regret it," Secretary Nera added, her tone harsher than Violet's own.
Lan Chi smiled at Nera's words.
She was always straightforward, whether expressing dislike or affection, leaving no room for guesswork.
The car fell silent for a while.
Lan Chi idly stroked the big gray cat in his arms.
"Secretary Nera, could you come with me to my place later?" Lan Chi finally asked, looking at Nera, who was focused on driving in the front seat.
He felt it necessary to confirm with Nera if she was truly a member of the Silver Moon Renaissance.
If it was related to both Princess Alykcia and Principal Violet, he had a few suspects in mind.
Secretary Nera, without a doubt, was the most likely candidate.
"No, Professor Landry. I don't want to become your rumored new fiancee," Nera quickly responded, her tone light and carefree.
"No, no, that's not what I meant," Lan Chi said, holding his head.
Spreading rumors was easy, but dispelling them was a tiring task.
He felt like he couldn't express himself clearly.
Matters like the Silver Moon Renaissance couldn't be openly discussed, yet they were of utmost importance and could only be addressed in private.
"Meow," Talia the Cat looked at Lan Chi, speechless.
You're really asking for trouble, Meow.
All the trouble Ran Chi caused in the past has now come back to haunt him.
In the past, Ran Chi never spread any rumors about Loren's scandal, and to this day, he still doesn't know who in Ikerith Academy is spreading those rumors about Loren.
However, the bet he later arranged for Miss Julia with Loren's help, along with the subsequent farces, might have inadvertently confirmed a few rumors, causing the truth to align with what was being spread, ultimately leading to the incident where Loren sat in the judge's seat, covering her face and crying during the Fighter Team competition on the last day of the academy visit.
Talia had a particularly strong impression of that day, and she felt something was amiss halfway through and ran off.
It was only after Huebriana returned home that she told Talia about the terrible state of Ikerith Academy that day.
"Professor Landry, rest assured, they wouldn't dare to make fun of me. After all, when Principal Violet is not around, I'm almost like the acting principal, holding most of the authority in this abbey, and I can make sure they understand the situation clearly."
Nera the Secretary chuckled a couple of times and stopped teasing Ran Chi.
"Besides, we meet so frequently for work, if there were any rumors, they would have spread by now."
She spoke to Ran Chi, and her tone seemed to imply that she had been intentionally teasing him earlier.
"..."
This made Ran Chi even more uncertain about her thoughts at the moment.
Nera took out a portable soundproof barrier magic device from her coat pocket, unfolded a small barrier, and isolated the sound within the carriage, as if she had prepared it in advance.
"Ask whatever you want, Professor Landry. Only you and I can hear the conversation in the car now."
Nera said without turning her head.
"I have a few questions for you first."
Ran Chi paused for a moment. Even though he had considered Nera a friend, he remained cautious about such matters.
"Ask."
Nera replied straightforwardly.
"Miss Nera, you haven't had any private contact with the Allied Forces, have you?"
Ran Chi asked, his expression growing more serious.
"Of course not."
Nera remained calm and answered without anger.
"..."
The gray cat in Ran Chi's arms didn't move a muscle, lying peacefully as he stroked it.
"Forgive my rudeness, Miss Nera, but can you assure me that you are loyal to the Empire?"
Ran Chi continued.
"Of course."
Nera nodded without hesitation.
"What about you?"
She asked Ran Chi in return.
"Me too."
Ran Chi stared at Nera in the front seat for a while and nodded as well.
"You don't have any connection with the Silver Moon Renaissance, do you?"
Ran Chi asked the last question, testing Nera.
The first two questions had almost proven that Nera had a trustworthy stance, and now it was time for the final question.
"Professor Landry, with these three questions, are you trying to catch me in a lie?"
In the front row, Nera the Secretary's blue eye behind the mechanical eyepiece stared straight ahead at the road, addressing Ran Chi.
"..."
Ran Chi lowered his head, feeling a bit embarrassed.
Nera's sharp words had directly exposed his lie detection.
Without any preamble, she had asked three questions, and for the sensitive and intelligent Nera, it was almost as if she had guessed the truth.
Even though he could have been more subtle, he no longer wanted to waste time or play mind games with his friend.
"But since you're asking like this, you must have guessed something, right? Are you Number Seven?"
Nera finally stopped teasing Ran Chi, slightly turning her head towards him.
"Indeed."
Ran Chi and the gray cat in his arms both lifted their heads, staring at Nera.
Since Nera asked this, it meant that she was indeed a comrade! Even her earlier behavior might have been an act, deliberately teasing Ran Chi.
"That day, Her Highness the Princess asked me to cover for the new member at the station if I had the time. I was also going to pick up the new professor, and when I saw you being targeted by Nicola, I suspected that you were the newly arrived Number Seven."
As Nera spoke, she took out a Communication Magic Card, which had just replaced the gear she used to shift. The card was enveloped in a pink glow.
【Ultra Long-Range Communication Program - 8】
【Category: Spell Card】
【Grade: Sacred Pink】
【Attribute: Link】
【Class: 6】
【Effect: Compared to regular ultra long-range communication magic, this spell has a longer range and better anti-interference capabilities.】
【Note: The Empire's Purity, protecting souls from the stain of sin.】
"So, when I was alone with you in the Main Hall of the Lord's Temple, I was testing you by revealing that I knew the Princess. I wanted to see if you would react or inquire further about it. But you were completely unreadable, without any change in expression or further questions on the topic. Good, you've taken the initiative to come clean with me now."
Nera continued to explain to Ran Chi.
"So, your rudeness towards Nicola that day was mainly to divert his attention from me, right?"
Ran Chi also realized, nodding in understanding.
Now, looking back at the events that had unfolded, everything seemed to have a cause and effect.
On the day Landri arrived in Brillada, Alykxia had not only sought help from Nicholas for the new members but also requested Nera's assistance.
Unfortunately, neither Nera nor Nicholas knew that the other was there to help, and both were determined to play their roles perfectly.
"No, I just genuinely dislike those purebred Imperial hounds. You're different; he's the real deal."
Nera's secretary glanced at Ran Chi through the rearview mirror and spoke with displeasure.
"Er..."
Ran Chi was at a loss for words.
The people Princess Alykxia sought out were indeed extraordinary.
"Do you know the identities of Number Four and Number Nine?"
Ran Chi asked her nervously, resting his hand on the back seat in front of him.
"Her Highness only told me that I could act as if Number Four doesn't exist. Because Number Four's agreement with her is that he will not provide any real-time assistance to the Silver Moon Reform Society. He will only appear in a desperate, irreversible situation."
Nera frowned as she recalled,
"And Number Nine is both the most trustworthy and the least trustworthy person. Her Highness even considered giving him the Sacred Communication Magic Card a gamble. On the other hand, Her Highness finds Number Six, whom you didn't ask about, incredibly trustworthy."
Nera added, her voice filled with a hint of apology.
In reality, Alykxia hadn't revealed the identities of the other members to her either, and the organization's founding principles were being strictly adhered to.
"No wonder the last time Number Three asked for my research data, Number Four only seemed to be chatting and had no intention of getting involved."
Ran Chi analyzed, stroking his chin.
So, he had been completely uninvolved from the start.
Number Four, the first to be recruited by the princess, seemed more like an outsider who didn't want to get involved. But the fact that the princess gave him the card indicated the importance she placed on his role in countering the vampires.
As for Number Nine, it was even more perplexing.
The princess seemed to have little faith in this person, but for some reason, she wanted to believe in him based on her intuition. So, in the end, she took a risk and gave the Number Nine card to this person to increase their chances against the vampires.
"I'm sorry, even if you found me, I couldn't have helped you much in a substantial way."
Nera apologized to Ran Chi.
"Not at all, Miss Nera, you've always been helping me."
Ran Chi waved his hand at Nera.
Just getting Violet's promise and finding the missing Number Eight was already a significant achievement. If he could obtain some information about the identities of the remaining two members from Number Eight, then today's overtime work would be incredibly productive.
His current gains had already exceeded his expectations.
"Do you want to meet the other members with me?"
Ran Chi asked Nera's secretary again.
"No, it's better not to involve me too much. I can only offer limited help, so it's best if I don't know too much for now."
Nera shook her head, focusing on the late-night road to Saint Kreinti Convent,
"I'm so weak that knowing too much might put you in danger. All I can do is provide cover for you at Saint Kreinti Convent, keep unrelated people away from your residence, and offer you logistical support. Think of me as your innkeeper."
She had a clear understanding of her role; the princess had initially approached her because of her interpersonal relationships and administrative capabilities within the convent.
"Alright."
Ran Chi didn't press further.
Soon, the vehicle slowly came to a stop on a familiar street next to a courtyard.
Before him stood the two-story residence of Professor Landry, its white walls glowing softly under the convent's streetlights, the deep blue roof, and the slightly dark brown window frames made it appear decades old.
"If you need any help in the future, you can contact me through the communication magic device."
After saying this, Nera's secretary bowed as she always did.
"Make sure to come to the celebration banquet."
Ran Chi waved at Nera.
"Of course, I'm also curious about who else I'll see at the banquet."
Nera replied affirmatively, showing a hint of a smile.
She could barely guess the identities of these online friends, and for now, she could only confirm Professor Landry and Princess Alykxia.
She, too, was looking forward to seeing who else would be there.
"Well, goodbye."
The two bid farewell.
Ran Chi watched as Nera's secretary's car disappeared into the night.
She had been his initial partner in Brillada, providing guidance and information when he first arrived. Nera's secretary had been quietly helping him all along.
Ran Chi, carrying a large gray cat, turned and walked into the courtyard.
He didn't feel much tension as a spy.
His life in the Kreinti Empire had already improved significantly compared to his time in the Northern Continent.
After a tiring day, nothing was more important than rest, especially with the Kreinti National Festival, which could change everything, just around the corner, almost like tomorrow.
He looked up at the residence.
His journey in the Kreinti Empire had come to a satisfying conclusion, marking the end of a long period of work and travel.
But a new task, his final battle, was about to begin.
