Chapter 835: The Beaten Desert Wolf (First Update)
Chapter 835: The Beaten Desert Wolf (First Update)
"Attack!"
Aquaman raised the Golden Trident, and a barrage of lasers shot from the hands of the warriors of Atlantis, Zebel, and the Fisherman Kingdom, mercilessly slaughtering the Demonoids that emerged from the Spatial Gateway.
The warriors from the Saltwater Kingdom charged toward the island, using their tough shells to isolate the Demonoids trying to aid Desert Wolf. They then used their large, sharp claws to tear them in half.
The Spatial Gateway was only so large, and despite the vast number of Demonoids, the narrow passage prevented them from surging out all at once.
This gave the four marine nations the upper hand in their attack.
As for their formidable vanguard, Desert Wolf, he was now being pummeled by the heroes.
Although Clark had not yet regained the power of the Mother Box, his strength was not far off from Desert Wolf's. Add to that the equally powerful Martian Manhunter, and the two of them were giving Desert Wolf a tough fight.
The key issue was that Desert Wolf wasn't just dealing with Superman and the Martian Manhunter. He struggled to his feet, using his War Armor to shield against four beams of energy, only to be tightly bound by Wonder Woman's Lasso of Truth.
Batman then aimed his Emp Gun at Desert Wolf's unprotected face, stunning him. Catwoman, in perfect synchronization, used her whip to entangle one of his legs and pulled him down again.
Roaring with rage, Desert Wolf used all his strength to break free from the Lasso of Truth. Just as he was about to swing his Battle Axe at Batman and Catwoman, Aquaman descended from the sky with the Golden Trident, engulfed in a torrent of seawater, and slammed him back to the ground.
Aquaman, armed with the Golden Trident, was clearly much stronger than when Jerry first encountered him.
This time, after being knocked down, Desert Wolf didn't get back up. Superman and the Martian Manhunter joined in to pin him down, while Wonder Woman's sharp Vulcan Sword left deep gashes on his War Armor, nearly breaking it apart.
Without the protection of his War Armor, it wouldn't be long before he was torn to pieces by the group.
He had come with a grand army, intent on conquering Earth and the universe, to bring back the Mother Box and curry favor with Darkseid, hoping to return home soon.
But he hadn't expected to be nearly killed upon arrival.
"It seems I don't need to do anything at all!"
Jerry, controlling the Spatial Gateway with the Mother Box, watched as Desert Wolf was beaten almost to death. He stroked his chin, realizing that he only needed to watch the show today.
"Don't kill him, just beat him half to death. He's still useful."
Though he had the Mother Box, Jerry still needed Desert Wolf to guide him to the other universes of Apokolips.
Seeing that the situation was under control, Jerry left a clone to continue managing the Mother Box and used the gateway to travel to the universe from which Desert Wolf had come, remaining invisible.
"Truly desolate!"
Upon entering the other side of the universe, Jerry immediately sighed.
He wasn't referring to the lack of planets, but rather the absence of any other life forms in this universe, apart from the Demonoids.
This meant that Desert Wolf and the Demonoids had slaughtered all life in this universe, leaving only barren planets and their resources.
"At least this way, I can collect some things without interference."
Although Jerry had advanced to the level of a single-universe entity, the Bells Universe still lacked other planets besides Krypton and the one where he trained.
Since life in this universe has already been exterminated by the Desert Wolf, it shouldn't be considered excessive for him to take a few planets into his Bells Universe.
Without any gods in the Bells Universe, it would take an indeterminate amount of time for him to create planets on his own, let alone reach the level of a multiverse.
By collecting a portion of the planets from each universe destroyed by Darkseid's army and then using the Artificial Sun Generator to create corresponding suns for them, he could accelerate the process.
Later, by converting the obtained red stars into life energy to heal the planets and mass-produce life, he could quickly bring the Bells Universe up to the level of the Ring Universe.
As for the source of the red stars, there would be plenty after defeating Darkseid and his army in the future.
After selecting a dozen or so suitable planets and adding them to his universe, Jerry returned to the Dark Sea at the Earth's core.
He couldn't be too greedy. The universes destroyed by Darkseid would gradually recover over time. If he took too much, he would likely run into trouble soon.
Darkseid had destroyed ten thousand universes, and taking a dozen planets from each would be enough to upgrade the Bells Universe to its maximum potential.
"Looks like it's about done!"
The battle was nearing its end. The Demonoids, constantly being eliminated by the four sea kingdoms, were now few in number, and the strongest of them, the Desert Wolf, lay on the ground.
The ultra-strong War Armor made of X-Metal had been torn apart by the Golden Trident and the Vulcan Sword, greatly reducing the Desert Wolf's defenses. Superman and the Martian Manhunter had quickly teamed up to inflict severe injuries on him.
"Aren't you going to kill him?"
The Mother Box channel closed, and Wonder Woman pressed the Vulcan Sword against the Desert Wolf's neck, asking Jerry.
She didn't understand why Jerry was sparing the Desert Wolf's life.
Jerry put the Mother Box away and walked up to the kneeling Desert Wolf.
"He's just a minor player. The real threat is Darkseid, who is behind him. Whether we kill him or not, Darkseid will still lead his army to invade Earth, and the scale will be much larger then.
We can't let the battlefield be on Earth. Otherwise, even if we win, nine out of ten of Earth's life forms will be destroyed."
"You mean—"
Bruce instantly grasped what Jerry was getting at.
While his combat power didn't play a significant role in large-scale battles, his mind was the sharpest among the superheroes.
"What do you mean?"
Clark and Arthur clearly still didn't understand.
"Jerry means we should use the Desert Wolf to find a way to Apokolips and set the battlefield there. This way, it won't affect Earth, and even if we lose, we can retreat."
Bruce explained.
"The key is that the Desert Wolf doesn't seem like he'll be willing to cooperate with us."
Catwoman pointed at the kneeling Desert Wolf.
The Desert Wolf laughed weakly, "You think you can launch an offensive against Apokolips? You're just asking for death.
Even if you are asking for death, I won't tell you the location of Apokolips or how to get there. You'll just have to wait for your universe to be destroyed!"
"Don't worry, leave him to me. I'll make him talk. You all go back and wait. Once everything is set, I'll use the Magic Mirror to notify you."
Jerry then approached and took the Desert Wolf into his Bells Universe.
Traveling to Apokolips via the Mother Box was straightforward. As for the Desert Wolf's unwillingness to reveal the coordinates, that was a simple matter. The Imperius Curse or a direct contract could turn him into a loyal informant.
