Chapter 833: 'The Fruit of the Forest'
Chapter 833: 'The Fruit of the Forest'
"Yes."
Butterfly Ninja, Rin, replied respectfully without hesitation.
Only Shinobu blinked, looking curiously at Feng Ye, who was leading Rin away, unsure of her master's intentions. But she wasn't worried and silently prayed for Rin to fulfill her wish.
Feng Ye led Rin out, and along the way, they passed some Demon Slayer Corps members, but none of them seemed to notice their presence, as if they were invisible.
Rin showed no reaction to this strange occurrence. In the past few months, although she hadn't seen Feng Ye much, she knew about some of his abilities. If Feng Ye didn't want to be seen or touched, he simply wouldn't be, even if he was standing right in front of her.
This wasn't the first time she had witnessed such a scene.
"It's been six months, and your will remains unchanged," Feng Ye said casually as he walked.
Rin followed quietly beside him. "My life has had but one purpose since the moment my sister left."
"Perhaps your sister wouldn't want to see you like this," Feng Ye said.
Rin tilted her head up, a gentle and adorable smile on her face. "I'm past the age where my sister needs to discipline me."
Feng Ye paused and looked at Rin, a bemused smile on his face. "Your sister should hear what you just said."
Rin blinked. "I wish she could hear me too."
Feng Ye gazed into Rin's eyes and asked, "Do you think I have the power to resurrect the dead?"
Rin smiled. "I don't know."
Feng Ye continued walking, a thoughtful look on his face. "Tell me, which version of you do you think is cuter—the old you or the current you?"
The old Rin was straightforward and impulsive, speaking her mind and acting recklessly. The current Rin concealed her thoughts, appearing gentle on the surface, but her words carried subtle, veiled probes, perfectly transitioning from a little sister to an older sister figure.
"Which one do you prefer?" Rin asked, not answering the question directly but instead throwing it back at him with a playful smile.
Feng Ye took a few more steps forward and stopped beside a patch of weeds. He slowly crouched down, reaching into the grass, and plucked the only tender yellow flower among them. He gently picked it and stood up, presenting the flower to Rin.
Rin watched as the tender yellow flower glowed in Feng Ye's hand and rapidly grew, eventually bearing a fruit with strange patterns on its surface.
"This is a power that will help you take your revenge," Feng Ye said calmly, holding up the 'Devil Fruit' of his own making. "But if you want it, the price is the latter half of your life, which you will devote to me after your revenge is complete."
"Deal," Rin agreed without hesitation.
She had already been considering sacrificing her life to ensure Douma's demise, especially since she felt stuck in a bottleneck with her swordsmanship, unable to improve her strength. But her plan always carried the risk of failure.
There was no doubt that gaining power directly from Feng Ye would be a better option than her initial idea.
"Eat it," Feng Ye replied. "But it doesn't taste very good, so you should brace yourself."
Rin looked at the fruit with a hint of skepticism, but she still put it in her mouth. After taking just one bite, her smile froze on her face.
What astonished Feng Ye was that Rin managed to maintain her smile and swallowed the Devil Fruit, despite her smile being stiff and her cheeks twitching slightly.
"Ah..."
After forcing down the last bit, Rin stifled the discomfort in her body and said with a stiff smile, "May I ask what this strange thing You fed me is?"
Feng Ye looked at Rin with a hint of amusement in his eyes and said, "This is something I replicated from another world. Its original name is the Devil Fruit. Eating it grants the consumer various abilities."
Rin paused, absorbing this information.
Then she sensed the strange power that had completely merged with her.
She tentatively raised her right hand and spread out her five fingers. In the center of her delicate palm, a green hue appeared, and a tender green sprout grew out of her flesh.
"Is this... Blood Demon Art?"
Rin's eyes widened in surprise as she witnessed the transformation of her body.
Feng Ye nodded. "Yes, you can understand it that way, but it's far more powerful than Blood Demon Art."
As he spoke, Feng Ye suddenly raised his right hand and slashed it towards Rin's shoulder.
His palm was as sharp as a blade as it sliced through Rin's shoulder and diagonally downward, exiting through her left leg, splitting her body into two halves.
Rin was initially startled by the sensation, but she soon realized that she didn't feel any pain, and the two halves of her body quickly transformed into lush green branches that fused back together.
"Self-healing and regeneration..."
Rin looked down at her body, noticing the difference.
This regeneration seemed similar to the powerful regenerative abilities of the Upper Moons, where even being cut in half wouldn't hinder them. However, there was a fundamental distinction—even her clothes had healed along with her body.
"To be precise, it's not regeneration, but elementization," Feng Ye explained. "The Breath of Life that you've mastered is merely an understanding of the power of elements. What you possess now is the element itself—the power of 'Wood.' This is the Natural-type Forest-Forest Fruit, and your body is now akin to a forest itself, commanding the power of nature, rendering all conventional attacks ineffective against you."
"The only weakness is seawater, but you're unlikely to encounter it."
Feng Ye retracted his hand and smiled gently as he turned to walk away. "Now, go and explore your newfound power. Whether or not you can avenge your sister depends on how well you can harness its potential."
As his figure disappeared into the distance, only Rin was left, still absorbing the changes in her body.
