Chapter 833: The End of an Era
Chapter 833: The End of an Era
Ivan hesitated for a moment and did not immediately strike. He believed that the battle had reached a point where it was no longer necessary to continue.
However, Dumbledore clearly did not share this sentiment. With a stern expression, he waved his wand, and the fallen wall stones quickly began to stack themselves up...
A six-meter-tall Stone Giant rose from the ground, radiating an indescribable aura. Its feet, formed from the stone base, were incredibly heavy, leaving clear marks as they stepped on the shattered tiles, charging straight toward Ivan.
Ivan had no intention of wasting too much energy on a Transformation creature. He casually pointed his wand, and the Headless Giant Python, whose body had been blown in half, rose up once more. With a mighty swing of its long tail, it knocked the Stone Giant off balance.
Even more bizarrely, under the influence of Magic, the Giant Serpent's burst head regrew, and its four sharp fangs pierced deeply into the Stone Giant's shoulder. The massive snake then coiled around the giant, entangling it.
The two behemoths rolled on the ground, locked in a fierce struggle...
Ivan paid no attention to the battle between the Transformation creatures, keeping his focus on Dumbledore.
He knew that only one of them would likely survive this encounter and walk out of the Church alive!
“Sectumsempra!”
After a brief standoff, Ivan broke the silence first. A thin beam of light shot from the tip of his wand, disappearing in mid-air.
Perhaps because he needed to concentrate on suppressing the injury on his right hand, Dumbledore did not waste Magic to create a shield. Instead, he conjured a fist-sized rock from the ground to block the spell's light beam.
“Crucio!” “Petrificus Totalus!”
Ivan launched a relentless series of attacks, giving Dumbledore no chance to catch his breath. Soon, he had forced Dumbledore into a purely defensive position.
Dumbledore, like the most skilled magician, waved his wand with ease, using only basic, low-magic-cost spells to effortlessly counter Ivan's onslaught.
Ivan remained calm and increased the intensity of his attacks. Fiendfyre, a terrifying inferno, materialized from the void and condensed into a fireball, wreaking havoc in the dilapidated Church.
Dumbledore had no choice but to conjure several Stone Guardians as shields to block the explosions.
This large-scale Magic drain exacerbated Dumbledore's injury, and the blackened burn marks quickly spread to his right face, causing a momentary delay in his casting movements...
“Sectumsempra!” Ivan, keenly aware of this fleeting opportunity, launched his final assault. An invisible and intangible Magic Blade shot from the tip of his wand, slicing directly toward Dumbledore.
Under the threat of death, Dumbledore stopped suppressing his injury and swung his wand with all his might. The Stone Guardians beside him disintegrated, transforming into a stone shield that appeared in front of him.
The Magic Blade struck the stone shield with a bone-chilling thud. After a brief standstill, both the blade and the shield exploded.
Dumbledore took a few steps back, avoiding the flying debris. Amid the smoke and dust from the explosion, a crimson beam suddenly shot toward him without warning.
A Disarming Charm?
Dumbledore did not expect Ivan to attempt to end the fight with such a non-lethal spell. He quickly moved to Apparate.
However, Ivan's voice rang out at that moment.
"Imperio!"
A hazy, peculiar sensation began to dominate his mind, as if it were trying to extract his thoughts from his brain.
Despite being in a terrible state, Dumbledore, a Legilimency Master, managed to break free from the Imperius Curse in less than a second.
However, in the heat of battle, every moment was crucial.
Although Ivan's Imperius Curse didn't take effect, it had achieved its core objective—Dumbledore's Apparition was forced to stop.
The backlash from the interrupted casting left Dumbledore with no chance for a final counterattack!
The crimson beam hit its target, and the solemnly standing Dumbledore was immediately sent flying. His thin body drifted in the air like a withered leaf, crashing heavily into the remaining support pillar. The wand he clutched in his hand slipped from his grasp, spinning through the air and plunging into the flames...
"Accio!" Ivan was startled and quickly cast the spell. A charred wand soon flew out of the fire.
Without regard for the heat, Ivan reached out and grabbed the wand. Only then did he realize that the wand Dumbledore had used during their battle wasn't the one he had expected...
Before Ivan could think it through, the entire church began to shake violently. The three support pillars that had already been shattered and collapsed in the previous battle, and Dumbledore had just collided with the last remaining one...
The delicate balance was instantly shattered. The church, which had already sustained multiple heavy blows, reached its breaking point. The walls cracked rapidly, and heavy stones began to rain down from the ceiling.
Ivan had no intention of being buried in the rubble. After the grueling battle, his mental state was so weakened that he lacked the strength to cast a spell to delay the church's collapse...
Ivan grabbed the trembling Fawkes, who had been cowering in a corner since his rebirth, and stuffed him into his wizard robes. He then used magic to lift Dumbledore, who was unconscious or possibly dead, and focused his mind on spatial positioning.
"Apparition!"
At the moment the church completely collapsed, Ivan swiftly waved his wand, and his entire body was swept into the spatial rift. The brutal battlefield was buried under a pile of heavy rubble just a second later...
...
In an abandoned house in Knockturn Alley, Ivan's figure emerged from the void.
As soon as he steadied himself, Ivan hurriedly approached Dumbledore to check on him, but the results left him shaking his head in frustration.
No breathing, no heartbeat, and his magic had dispersed...
Ivan sighed as he looked at Dumbledore, who lay on the ground with his eyes closed, his robes still neat except for a bit of dust. He couldn't prevent Dumbledore's death, despite his premonitions before the duel. This outcome was clearly not what he had wanted...
The phoenix chick struggled out of Ivan's wizard robes, flapping its featherless wings awkwardly and falling to the ground, emitting mournful cries.
Ivan listened silently to the lament, and after his magic had partially recovered, he began the necessary cleanup. He placed his wand on the magic mark on his right hand and sent a tragic message to Acting Minister Pierce.
