Chapter 831: The Burning Church
Chapter 831: The Burning Church
"Cowardly, are you?" Dumbledore raised an eyebrow, muttering softly, though he did not voice any objections. Instead, he continued in a calm tone.
"Since you are so adamant about your beliefs, then prove it to me..."
Dumbledore's expression turned serious. He lifted his left hand, gripping his wand and holding it upright before his chest, bowing slightly as a sign of respect.
Ivan, standing opposite, understood this gesture of Wizard Duel etiquette. He took a deep breath, raised his wand, and returned the bow.
A golden-red phoenix danced in the sky above the Church, its celestial music resonating as if it were a witness to this epochal duel.
The moment the music ceased, Ivan made the first move without any warning, casting three dark beams that flashed through the air.
However, such an obvious attack was easily countered. Dumbledore merely flicked his wrist, and a white, semi-circular shield erupted from the tip of his wand, blocking the dark beams.
The black beams struck the shield, producing a series of bone-chilling thuds, and the shield's surface quickly developed cracks.
"Reducto! (Sectumsempra)!" Ivan pressed his advantage, advancing step by step and casting another spell. The Magic Shield in front of him shattered with a loud bang.
Dumbledore, unperturbed, swiftly moved his wand with his left hand, causing the long table on the magic podium to fly down and intercept Ivan's Cruciatus Curse. Then, with a slight tilt of his wand, the broken wooden desk fragments transformed into sharp steel needles, scattering towards Ivan.
A large mass of crimson flames suddenly appeared in front of Ivan, forming a thick Wall of Fire to block Dumbledore's counterattack.
As Ivan increased his magical output, the Wall of Fire began to generate fireballs the size of human heads, which shot towards Dumbledore like cannonballs.
"Enough with the probing..." Dumbledore said suddenly, his left hand gripping his wand tightly as a golden light burst forth. With a light sweep, the Wall of Fire was split apart, and the fireballs were extinguished.
He was tired of this cautious exchange. At this intensity, they could go on until tomorrow without reaching a conclusion.
Ivan understood this as well. Soon, tendrils of flame began to drift from the tip of his wand, but unlike the usual crimson, these flames were an eerie, ghostly white, expanding rapidly upon contact with the air.
"Confringo! (Exploding Spell!)"
Relying on Fiendfyre, Ivan unleashed the most powerful magic he could control!
The ghostly white Fiendfyre swept through the Wall of Fire, consuming everything in its path and swelling to form a massive flame dragon. With a roar, it surged forward, bringing a wave of intense heat.
Dumbledore's usually calm face showed a hint of concern for the first time. He could clearly sense the threat posed by this flame.
"Ultimate Spell!" Dumbledore intoned.
An incredible force radiated from Dumbledore, forming a circular barrier that held back the terrifying Fiendfyre.
The two powerful forces clashed instantly, causing a massive explosion that shook the entire Church. The sky was filled with fire, nearly obscuring everything in sight!
However, Ivan knew very well that Dumbledore had not been consumed by his Fiendfyre. The Magic Barrier created by the special spell "Ultimate Spell" was even more resilient than he had imagined.
Although the defensive barrier's range was gradually shrinking under his relentless attacks without regard for Magic consumption, it still appeared as solid as a mountain.
In the sea of flames, Dumbledore, as if giving a lesson, slowly explained, “The Ultimate Spell was specifically developed to counter such extreme dangers posed by Dark Magic…”
Ivan understood the underlying meaning in Dumbledore’s words. The Ultimate Spell was designed to counter Fiendfyre, and relying on it to break through the protective barrier was unrealistic.
“Is that so? How about this?” Dumbledore’s words did not affect Ivan’s emotions. His deep voice echoed through the Church a moment later.
“Crucifix, fly to me!”
As soon as Ivan spoke, a five-meter-long metal crucifix adorning the white wall behind Dumbledore was forcefully pulled down by Magic, like a giant steel sword. It sliced through the air, accompanied by flying dust and debris, at an indescribable speed.
Dumbledore, who needed to maintain his Casting, had no time to turn around. The right half of his body, corrupted by the Curse, made every movement particularly difficult.
In less than a second, the heavy crucifix pierced through the raging flames and struck the protective barrier directly!
The Ultimate Spell, specifically designed to counter Magic Spells, was far weaker against physical attacks. The seemingly invincible defense shattered almost instantly.
The surrounding Fiendfyre surged like a tidal wave, crashing down. The massive crucifix, engulfed in flames, was continuously licked and melted by the fiery tongues.
Despite the dire situation, Dumbledore’s face remained calm. The intense heat caused his robes to flutter wildly. Just before death, he made no visible movement, and his body vanished from the Church.
Ivan had not expected that Dumbledore, despite being forcibly interrupted during his Casting, still had the strength to Apparate.
His carefully prepared strike missed again. The heavy crucifix slammed into the floor tiles, deeply embedding itself in the indentation it created, and was then melted into a pool of molten iron by the Fiendfyre Dragon.
When Ivan realized Dumbledore had suddenly disappeared, he quickly scanned the surroundings. The heavily damaged Church was empty, with no sign of Dumbledore.
Is it a Disillusionment Charm?
Ivan thought to himself. To avoid his attack, Dumbledore must have used Apparition, but he definitely didn’t leave the Church. He must be hiding, invisible.
After all, this Duel was forced upon him by Dumbledore, who would never leave the area.
Just as Ivan had suspected, a powerful Magic fluctuation suddenly came from behind him.
Ivan felt a chill run down his spine and quickly turned around, only to find Dumbledore standing not far behind him, unseen until that moment.
A golden-red beam of light was already within striking distance.
There was no time to Cast a spell. The golden-red beam easily pierced Ivan’s body, creating a deep crater in the ground behind him.
But strangely, no blood flowed from the gaping wound. Instead, Ivan disintegrated into a large ball of flame and reformed into his human shape within a second.
