Chapter 83: (Tenth Update): The Activated "Boon"
Chapter 83 (Tenth Update): The Activated "Boon"
Andie glanced around cautiously before lowering her voice.
"Xin Xi Ya has suddenly become unusually quiet. That's very strange. From what I know, she's always been someone who never lets even the smallest slight go unavenged."
Luo En ushered Andie inside and closed the door. "You're worried she's plotting something in secret?"
"Extremely likely", Andie nodded. "What concerns me more is the rumor that she's been growing close to Aolifu recently."
"Aolifu?" Luo En's frown deepened. "You mean Ma Kusi's brother who specializes in cursespells?"
"Exactly." Andie pulled out a note from her robes. "This message arrived from my informant last night - Xin Xi Ya spent the entire night in Aolifu's laboratory..."
Luo En took the note and scanned it quickly, his expression darkening. "This definitely isn't good news, but for now all we can do is accelerate our own preparations."
Andie nodded. "I understand completely. I've been intensifying preparations for the Bloodline Awakening Ceremony lately. By the way, how's your exam preparation coming along?"
"Reasonably well", Luo En gestured toward the open notes and formulas on the table. "Madame Ellen provided some key advice, and I've already mastered the formulas for most potential examination potions."
Before he could finish speaking, another knock sounded at the door.
"Who is it?" Luo En asked cautiously.
"It's me - Nuo Li Si", came the voice from outside, slightly breathless. "Captain Holt sent me with a letter for you."
Luo En exchanged a glance with Andie before cautiously opening the door.
Nuo Li Si stood in the doorway, holding a sealed letter. "The captain instructed me to deliver this personally. It concerns your Potion Certification Examination."
After thanking him and closing the door, Luo En quickly broke the seal.
"From Holt?" Andie asked curiously, leaning closer.
Luo En nodded, his brows initially furrowing as he read before gradually relaxing.
"Holt says he's confirmed my examiner will likely be Master Magnus, who specializes in identifying potion purity and stability."
"That's actually good news!" Andie slapped Luo En's shoulder enthusiastically. "Master Magnus is known for his impartiality and won't be influenced by outside factors."
Luo En nodded, mentally noting Holt's latest help. "Yes, this means I only need to ensure my potion quality is exceptional without worrying about other interferences."
"I'll take my leave then and let you continue preparing."
Andie stood to go, then added at the threshold, "Oh, and if you need any auxiliary materials, don't hesitate to ask. I still have some favors I can call in with Gray Dwarf Ao Tuo to acquire rare herbs at reasonable prices."
After seeing Andie out, Luo En carefully stored the letter and retrieved a materials list. He prepared to visit Madame Ellen about several accumulated questions.
Pushing open the door to the Herbal Medicine Shop, the bell jingled, but Madame Ellen's usual hunched figure was nowhere in sight.
The shop was darker than usual, filled with a faintly familiar fragrance - somewhat like night-blooming jasmine but sweeter.
"You've arrived at quite the opportune moment, young Luo En."
A woman's voice sounded from the back room. Though retaining Madame Ellen's signature huskiness, it carried an unusual lightness today.
Following the sound, Luo En found the beautiful sorceress once again - this time wearing a silky nightgown as she sorted herbs behind the counter.
Her cascading pink-violet hair shimmered with dreamlike radiance in the light. Her porcelain skin contrasted beautifully with her large, jewel-like eyes.
"Madam, is this that time of the month again?"
The words escaped Luo En's mouth before he could stop them. Though he already knew Madame Ellen temporarily regained her youthful appearance during her monthly mana fluctuations, witnessing the transformation still startled him.
The pink-haired sorceress let out a laugh - that distinctive sharp, aged sound unique to Madame Ellen. "What? Will you always be shocked every time you see me like this?"
She plucked a small flower from her hair and absentmindedly tucked it behind her ear, an unconscious gesture that made the young man steal an extra glance.
"Let's get to business. You're here about the examination, I presume?"
"Yes, madam", Luo En snapped back to focus, placing his materials list on the counter. "I have some questions about Awakening Potion stability."
Madame Ellen set aside her work and stepped closer, scrutinizing Luo En's eyes.
At this distance, though the radiation from her presence stung painfully, he could detect a strange floral scent emanating from her.
"You haven't slept properly in days, have you?" she frowned slightly, subtly suppressing her natural radiation field. "Your spirit stones still look decent, but that exhaustion radiating from within doesn't fool me."
Luo En hesitated, offering a bitter smile. "You're right. I've been practicing formulas nonstop these past few days."
Madame Ellen fell silent for a moment, her delicate fingers tapping the table as she pondered. Finally, she turned toward the back room. "Follow me."
Luo En followed her into a small, tastefully decorated room containing a coffee table and several recliners.
Madame Ellen gestured for him to sit while expertly opening an ornate wooden box. From it, she retrieved a crystal vial.
"Drink this - it'll sharpen your mind", she said, floating the vial toward him. Long lashes cast soft shadows across her elegant face. "But remember, this isn't a sustainable solution. Overextending your spiritual energy always comes at a cost."
Grateful, Luo En accepted the vial. "Thank you, madam."
After analyzing it, he carefully sipped. Instantly, cool energy surged from his throat to his brain, dissipating fatigue and heightening his mental acuity.
"This is..."
"A modified compound formula combining Moonlight Extract and Soulbloom - my own creation", the sorceress said, idly twirling a strand of her pink-violet hair. "Now, tell me your questions."
"Regarding Awakening Potion stability", Luo En flipped through his notes to find the relevant page. "I noticed that when adding Stardust Pollen, even slight temperature increases cause degradation. Is there any way to improve heat resistance?"
Madame Ellen nodded, her eyes flashing with approval. "Excellent question. Traditional formulas indeed have this flaw, but pre-mixing three drops of Moon Dew with the Stardust Pollen significantly enhances stability."
"Moon Dew..." Luo En murmured thoughtfully, quickly jotting down this key point in his notes.
"There's another consideration", Madame Ellen continued, leaning forward. Her graceful collarbones partially revealed themselves. "Magnus likely prefers potions with uniform coloring - you should account for Silverroot's properties."
Luo En looked up, surprised. "You know Master Magnus will be my examiner too?"
A mysterious smile curved Madame Ellen's lips. "There are no true secrets in the Black Mist Jungle, child - especially not from sharp-eared old women."
She stood gracefully, moving to the nearby medicine cabinet. Her long fingers moved deftly among the drawers.
"These are for you", the pink-haired sorceress said, placing several carefully selected ingredients on the coffee table. "Top quality - more than enough to last until your exam."
Luo En accepted the materials, touched yet slightly embarrassed. "This is too valuable, madam."
"Don't be so formal", Madame Ellen waved a hand, offering a rare soft smile. "You're the most talented student I've ever encountered, and I have high hopes for you. Besides..."
She paused, her emerald green eyes glowing with a satisfaction Luo En had never seen before.
"You might not realize it, but your recent growth has already begun to provide me with some 'Boon' feedback."
