Chapter 829: Iron Sand
Chapter 829: Iron Sand
What does this mean?
What are you waiting for?
Feglie and Luo Ci, who stood closest to him, briefly hesitated in confusion—but in the next instant, their scalps prickled with dread as an overwhelming sense of danger radiated from the man’s body.
Instinctively, they leapt backward in unison, their retreat carving furrows into the ground as smoke and dust billowed outward.
He’s different now!
The man stood still, yet emanated an aura of extreme peril.
Getting too close would end badly!
“Old-timers know their stuff,” Kuro remarked, watching them with a teasing smirk. “They’ve got experience and know their limits.”
“Iron Sand!!”
Unlike Feglie and Luo Ci, who had sensed Kuro’s threat up close, Klah the Cyclops reacted differently. With a grit of his teeth, the Iron Sand swirling around him surged forward, morphing under his control into countless Black Iron Spears. The iron lances crackled with electric sparks, propelling themselves forward like shadows trailing lightning, exploding toward Kuro.
This time, there were too many to dodge!
“Just what I was waiting for.”
Kuro spread his five fingers toward the iron lances, his lips curling into a grin. “Matter manipulation—I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve too.”
The Black Iron Spears, which looked like streaks of dark thunder, abruptly halted midair before Kuro, freezing in place.
Bang!
In the next instant, the Iron Sand lances disintegrated into scattered grains, swirling into a dense cluster.
“How?!” Klah the Cyclops’ eyes widened in shock.
All the Iron Sand in the air now began converging toward Kuro, forming a black sphere. No matter how Klah struggled to control it, the sphere remained frozen—held in place as though anchored by an unseen force.
“Iron Sand isn’t my specialty, obviously. It’s not about precision—it’s a fundamental difference in ability types. But when it comes to matter manipulation…”
Kuro flipped his palm, and the Iron Sand grains began separating, like raindrops trickling onto his hand.
The grains rotated, forming a miniature tornado resting on his palm.
“Iron Sand!”
With a flick of his wrist, Kuro hurled the Iron Sand Tornado toward Feglie. The sphere above continued channeling Iron Sand into the twister, expanding it rapidly. Soon, the tornado had grown into a monstrous Iron Sand vortex, engulfing Feglie entirely.
“Hey!!”
Back on Greget Island, a man with a horizontal scar across his nose bridge, slicked-back hair, a cigar clenched in his teeth, and a golden hook on his left hand narrowed his eyes. “This guy…”
Beside him, a burly man with a buzzcut glanced over, his expression grim. “What now, Boss? Should we retreat?”
“No need,” the slicked-back hair man replied, scanning the battlefield. “I know Bartholomew’s secret, but getting him requires taking risks.”
Meanwhile, deep within a back alley of Greget, a white-clad man with a chef’s tall hat and a neatly trimmed mustache watched the scene unfold on a monitor, a faint smirk tugging at his lips.
Bang!!
Within the roaring tornado, muffled explosions signaled Feglie’s attempts to break free.
But matter doesn’t vanish. Not even someone as strong as Feglie could erase it. As long as the Iron Sand remained, Kuro could control it. With his hand outstretched, he kept the tornado spinning, each grain vibrating at the same high frequency as before.
“Not bad—using high-frequency shockwaves as an attack,” Kuro mused, his fingers dancing rhythmically, like Donquixote Doflamingo manipulating strings. The tornado surrounding Feglie began generating afterimages, its thunderous booms fading as the trapped man’s resistance weakened.
Hiss!
In a flash, the Iron Sand exploded outward like bursting bubbles, scattering before rushing back into Kuro’s Iron Sand Sphere. At the epicenter, Feglie lay crumpled—a bloodied, grotesque mass of twisted flesh, his aura extinguished.
“Feglie! Dammit!”
Luo Ci shouted, instinctively trying to retreat.
But Kuro turned his palm toward him, and a swarm of Iron Sand surged forth, encircling him like a swarm of hornets. The grains clung to his body, relentless.
“Get off!”
Luo Ci’s six scythe-like spider legs lashed wildly, but the Iron Sand refused to yield. It simply shifted with his movements, impossible to break through.
“Ever heard of using softness to overcome hardness? Doesn’t matter either way.”
Kuro’s fingers curled slightly, and the Iron Sand thickened around Luo Ci, even sealing his mouth and nose like a mummy.
Haki forms an invisible armor, enhancing defense and attack—but no one said Haki could block air. Deprived of oxygen, Luo Ci struggled to breathe.
But Kuro couldn’t afford to waste time.
“Oh? Your Haki’s resisting? How long can it hold?”
Haki could be broken through.
Kuro’s fingers twisted slowly, and the Iron Sand around Luo Ci began tightening, compressing inward.
The pressure mounted.
And Luo Ci’s Haki began to wane.
“Try this—my high-frequency shockwave version of Iron Sand!”
Kuro clenched his fist.
Boom!!
The Iron Sand twisted into a spiral, blood seeping from its core. Droplets trickled outward, staining the ground below.
“You’re the last one.”
Kuro turned his gaze to Klah the Cyclops. “Any more interesting abilities you want to show me?”
Klah flinched, instinctively stepping back.
No Iron left!
His ability required manipulating Iron Sand, which this man had already suppressed. No matter Klah’s efforts, the Iron Sand refused to move.
That rendered his ability useless!
Seeing Klah gritting his teeth in hesitation, Kuro scoffed inwardly.
Magnet-Electric Devil Fruit—electromagnetic abilities.
If Kuro faced someone with deeper knowledge, he’d never dare act this bold—he feared death.
But pirates? Most weren’t exactly scholars.
Once an ability was understood, its mystery vanished, and the danger with it. Kuro had no fear of the Four Emperors—while he might not defeat them, he knew their abilities well enough to respect their limits.
Unknown abilities? That’s what kept him on edge. The Grand Line was vast, full of surprises.
But once he knew the ability type—and assessed it as non-threatening—his confidence soared.
Take someone like Humphrey—since Kuro couldn’t fathom his command ability’s limits, he eliminated him quickly.
Or someone like Klah the Cyclops…
Not that Kuro looked down on him, but if Klah could wield the Four Blues’ power, Kuro wouldn’t hesitate to run.
“Hmm?”
Suddenly, Kuro’s gaze sharpened toward the horizon. “He’s here.”
He flicked his finger toward the direction, then turned to a Transponder Snail broadcasting the battle.
“You’re getting impatient, aren’t you?”
The screen couldn’t transmit Kuro’s words, only capturing his lips moving toward the lens.
But on the ground below, a shadowy figure grinned malevolently, his lips curling into a bone-white crescent.
