Chapter 821: The Four Factions and Seventeen Societies
Chapter 821: The Four Factions and Seventeen Societies
"Come here, come on."
Lyon scanned the few spirits attached to the female medium but didn't find any familiar ones. He skipped the pleasantries and waved his hand at the female medium who was instinctively backing away.
"Sign this for me. Once you're done, get back quickly. Remember, if you're already dead, don't keep running to the living world. Got it?"
"Okay... Alright..."
Seeing the terrifying face before them, a face known to all in the Dead Realm, the ancient souls summoned by the spirit summoning secret art quickly chose a representative. They controlled the female medium's body and shakily signed their names on the membership application form.
"This can't be right?"
Lyon furrowed his brows after glancing at the name on the form and then at the female medium, who had a rather delicate appearance.
"Her name is Hans?"
"No... It's not..."
Seeing the formidable God of Food frown, the "female medium," fearing she might be eaten on a whim, quickly shook her head.
"It's me! I was called Hans when I was alive!"
"..."
Why did you sign your name? I wanted her signature!
Lyon blinked in disbelief and sent the confused soul back, summoning a smarter one to sign the form on the medium's behalf. Once done, he waved his hand dismissively.
"Alright, you can go now... Oh, wait!"
As he spoke, Lyon seemed to remember something. He grabbed the souls trying to escape and, amidst their terrified screams, instructed them with a furrowed brow:
"I might visit the Spirit Medium Society later. If any mediums summon you, you must respond. You all have to come back if called upon again."
"I... We..."
"Speak up!"
"Yes! We will definitely return next time!"
"Alright, off you go."
Lyon released the summoned souls, watching them flee towards the Gate of the Dead in a panic. He sighed regretfully, feeling a bit disappointed.
What a pity. These souls had relatively high immersion values, but unfortunately, they weren't just from the Sorceress Kingdom; they weren't even alive anymore. Even if he dragged them into a bedtime story, they wouldn't be assigned a plot, so they couldn't help weaken the binding power.
If only he could control the Spirit Medium Society and have the mediums continuously summon souls from the living world, he could drag out the Tale of Illusions and end the bedtime story in one fell swoop.
"You... What did you do?!"
As Lyon secretly lamented, the other female medium had regained control of her body and exclaimed in horror:
"Where are the spirits? Why did the ones I summoned leave?"
"Maybe they came out too quickly, and the gas was left on~"
Lyon joked, feeling quite cheerful. He helped the exhausted medium up and guided her to sit on a nearby stone slab. Then, he looked towards the Spirit Medium Society she had emerged from, contemplating the possibility of using his familiar face to force his way in.
...
According to the information provided by the Cat Witch Princess, the various large and small societies in the Sorceress Kingdom could be broadly categorized into four main factions.
Firstly, there was the Fate faction, represented by the Feng Shui, Astrology, Divination, and Numerology Societies. Their headquarters were primarily located in the High Witch Court and Crystal Street, where they studied various fortune-telling methods, some more legitimate than others. Aside from scams and weather forecasting, they didn't seem to have much else to do;
Secondly, the Secret Arts faction consisted of the Sorceress, Curse, and Covenant Guilds. Each possessed unique and peculiar secret arts, many of which could be attached to artifacts. Consequently, their headquarters were mostly scattered throughout the Artifact Market in the western part of the High Witch Court;
Lastly, there was the Rational faction, led by the Silver Sage and Rationalism Guilds, and the Descending faction, comprising the Shaman, Totem, Priest, Spirit Medium, Dance Nuo, Blessing Monk, and Representative Guilds. These societies were also divided between the north and south sides of the High Witch Court.
The former often frequents libraries, higher education institutions, and other areas with a strong "cultural atmosphere." They are considered the elite of Arcane City, and even the entire Sorceress Kingdom, receiving a substantial budget each year for their research, the details of which remain unknown.
As for the seven societies of the Descending faction, who generally possess the abilities of "Divine Descent" and "Spirit Summoning," they are, ironically, the most down-to-earth group. Their headquarters are located in places like markets, theaters, and churches, integrated with the largest residential area north of Arcane City, creating a vibrant living atmosphere.
Among the Descending Seven, the Spirit Medium Society is the easiest for Lyon to deal with... They might have a good relationship with those who handle funeral matters.
Looking at the Spirit Medium Society's building, adorned in black and white with flowers on top and banners hanging on both sides, Lyon's lips twitched. He abandoned the idea of entering immediately and turned to the Feline Witch beside him.
"On which floor is the Spirit Medium Society's leader's room?"
"Hmm? Why do you ask?"
"I'm confident I can handle them all at once, but I really don't want to go into that building..."
Lyon looked up at the five-story building, decorated in a rather ominous style, and frowned slightly. Then, he suggested, "So, if the leader's room is on the street level, we can smash the glass of their office, lure them down, and force them to agree to merge the Spirit Medium Society into our Yarn Ball Society."
I knew it. I'll never be able to keep up with your train of thought...
After somewhat understanding Lyon's thought process, the Feline Witch, who had become somewhat desensitized, sighed. She then raised her hand and pointed at the female spirit medium who was sitting on a stone slab by the roadside, looking dazed after Lyon had helped her to the side earlier.
"If you want to find the leader of the Spirit Medium Society, you can just look for her."
"Her?"
Lyon was slightly taken aback.
"Is she the leader of the Spirit Medium Society?"
"Acting leader."
The Feline Witch glanced sympathetically at the female spirit medium, who was completely dazed, and whispered, "The former leader of the Spirit Medium Society just presided over her own funeral last week. She should be in the realm of the dead now, and a new leader hasn't been chosen yet. The acting leader is her late teacher's favorite student..."
Now it made sense.
After understanding the female spirit medium's identity, Lyon suddenly realized and nodded. Then, with a smile, he approached the female spirit medium, whose worldview had just been shattered, while the Feline Witch looked on with a strained expression.
"Hello, beautiful..."
Lyon took out the Contract of Bondage from the small cart and examined the messy handwriting on it. With his increasingly thick-skinned face, he continued without changing his expression, "Beautiful Miss Marlena, I believe your Spirit Medium Guild is currently facing a tremendous crisis. The only way to escape this crisis is to merge entirely with our Yarn Ball Society. What do you say? Care to consider it?"
