Chapter 820: The Power of the Phoenix Elixir
Chapter 820: The Power of the Phoenix Elixir
Convincing the Feline was surprisingly effortless. Kyle merely asked, promising a daily supply of jerky, and Cheshire immediately jumped onto his shoulder without a moment's hesitation, the entire process flowing seamlessly.
Lockner watched from behind, his mouth twitching slightly. Although he had already agreed, witnessing this scene made his heart feel a bit stifled. What if Cheshire had hesitated... Others might have thought that Cheshire was raised by Kyle.
So, Lockner decided to close the door and pretend he didn't see anything.
Meanwhile, Kyle, with his new companion, happily returned to the Magical Fountain and found Conna sitting by the fountain, writing on some parchment.
"What are you writing?" he asked as he approached.
Conna put away the parchment, saying, "Some potentially useful potion combinations. Are you done with your discussion?"
"Yeah," Kyle replied with a smile, "I must say, this trip has been quite fruitful."
He briefly recounted the events of the afternoon, leaving Conna amazed.
"That's a Feline, a rare and precious magical creature from France. And you just borrowed it?"
"Yes, I borrowed it," Kyle corrected, "and I'll return it later."
"That's still astonishing," Conna said. "I haven't been in France for long, but I've heard about the status of Felines here... The bar next to Gringotts is called the Feline Bar."
"But this creature only appears in the Ministry of Magic, and ordinary wizards are prohibited from keeping them. It seems Professor Lockner is quite an exceptional professor."
"Yes," Kyle agreed, "without real skills, one wouldn't be invited by the Romanian Dragon Reserve."
"Dragon Reserve?"
"Oh, that was a few years ago," Kyle explained. "It was before our fourth year started, and it was the first time I met Professor Lockner."
Conna nodded and followed Kyle towards the dining hall.
The dinner was not as luxurious and formal as the first day, but it was still abundant.
"Indeed, this is France," Conna said after taking a bite of the beef wrapped in bread, "Even if it's just steak, it tastes better than Hogwarts. I've gained some weight these past few days."
Kyle stared at his plate, saying nothing and having no intention to comment... He didn't hear a word.
With his mind occupied, he didn't stay long. After quickly eating a few ham sandwiches, he rushed to the Alchemy Classroom.
Due to the postponed classes and it being Saturday, the corridor in front of the classroom was deserted.
When Kyle arrived, the door was still locked, and a lamp on the door flickered red, just like three days ago when he had left.
Unsure of the exact time, Kyle didn't return but leaned against the railing and started reading a book.
Time passed slowly, and the sounds of laughter and play gradually diminished until they disappeared entirely. The Alchemy Elevator also stopped operating.
The empty corridor fell into an eerie silence, with only the howling wind and the faint clicking sounds when the red light on the wall flickered.
Kyle closed the book in his hand and checked the time.
Unconsciously, it was already 11 PM.
No wonder it was so quiet; even at Busbaron, it was unlikely for students to be wandering around the school at this hour.
Kyle stretched his stiff arms and looked at the door of the Alchemy Classroom... It was still closed.
Perhaps Professor Viktor meant three days, not that it would be completed by the third day, Kyle thought.
Just as he was hesitating whether to leave and come back the next morning, the door suddenly opened from the inside.
Professor Viktor walked out.
"You're here. I was just about to call for you," he said, his voice sounding weak.
Working non-stop for three days, even with magical support, was not pleasant. However, Professor Viktor seemed accustomed to this level of work.
"Do you want to eat something first?" Kyle asked.
"No need, it's only been three days. The Vitality Elixir I drank earlier is enough," Professor Viktor waved his hand, "Come in. You still have a lot to do."
Kyle followed him into the classroom. As soon as they entered, Professor Viktor picked up the golden pocket watch from the table and placed it in his hand.
The cracks had completely disappeared, and the originally dull color had regained its brightness.
"I helped draw the framework of the magic runes, which took a little extra time," Professor Viktor said as he carefully placed the unique glove into a metal box and set his glasses on the table.
"When you give it to Nicolas, it should save some time."
"Thank you," Kyle said sincerely.
"No need," Professor Viktor waved his hand, "Since the item was sent to me, someone wants me to help. I can't ignore it.
"And Albus is one of the few remaining Alchemy Masters nowadays, so it's a bit of a pity for him to be lost in time like this.
Kyle was about to say something when Viktor shook his head and said, "Okay, I found something interesting while repairing the time converter, and I need to study it. You can go back now and come find Nicolas tomorrow."
"I want to go now," Kyle said.
Fox had already returned from Devonshire two days ago, bringing with him Nicolas' reply, and he could go there at any time now.
"Don't be in a rush," Viktor said. "Nicolas still needs to do some preparations, probably around five days. Even if you go now, you'll just be waiting. Since you're waiting either way, isn't it the same no matter where you are?"
"Okay then," Kyle nodded.
Viktor closed the door again, eager to try out his new idea, but this time, there was no red light on the wall.
...
Despite Viktor's suggestion that he could stay a bit longer, Kyle insisted on leaving Busbaron the next day.
Madame Maxim tried to persuade him a few times, but eventually gave up.
Just like when they arrived, Fengnu was still there to send them back.
As they walked out of the school gate, she laid the flying carpet on a large stone.
"Get on, where do you want to go next?" Fengnu asked, "How about watching the sprite troupe's performance? It's not far from Bagnardebane."
"No, you go." Kyle shook his head, "I have something to do, and I must go back to Britain now."
"Go back now..." Fengnu was puzzled, "Why are you in such a hurry?"
Conna also looked at him.
"I also want to stay a bit longer, but I heard something from Professor Viktor that makes me anxious, so..."
"It's fine." Conna smiled lightly, "Just right, I also have a new potion formula that needs verification, and I don't want to keep running around."
She walked forward and hugged Kyle, "Be careful when you go back."
"You too, if you have any trouble, come find Madame Maxim." Kyle said, "Don't worry about owing anyone, you can pay it back together with Professor Dumbledore."
Conna was amused by his words and said in a bad mood, "So, does Professor Dumbledore know?"
"I don't know, but he won't mind." Kyle said.
"Hey, you two aren't underestimating me." Fengnu frowned, "This is France, and even if there's trouble, I can easily solve it."
"Then I'll trouble you, and when you marry Bill, I'll send you a gift."
"What if I'm not satisfied?" Fengnu raised her eyebrows, "My standards are high."
"Then I'll change it until you're satisfied."
Kyle laughed and then extended his hand.
Fengnu hadn't realized what he meant yet when a golden-red bird flew down from the sky, and Kyle grabbed its tail feathers, disappearing with a loud bang.
"Oh!"
Fengnu was startled and couldn't help but look up, "Conna, did you see that just now?"
"Yeah, I saw." Conna looked at Kyle disappearing.
"What was that? It couldn't be a phoenix!"
"It's a phoenix, called Fox." Conna said, "Remember? This is how Kyle came to France."
"So convenient." Fengnu was a bit envious, but it wasn't because the phoenix could avoid the Ministry of Magic's investigation with its illusion teleportation talent, but because this magical creature was so beautiful.
The golden-red feathers were like flames under the sun, and its chirping, though short, was more pleasant to the ears than the best opera house.
"You mean, I can find a phoenix too?" Fengnu looked at Conna with anticipation.
"Um... probably." Conna didn't want to shatter her friend's fantasy and stammered, "The magical world is so big, there should be opportunities."
"If only." Fengnu looked up at the sky again, trying to find the phoenix's trace, but after a few minutes, she gave up and boarded the flying carpet with Conna, returning to the commercial street.
"What do you want to do next?" she asked.
Conna thought for a moment and said, "Still the same as before."
"But you said you wanted to verify a new potion formula?"
"That can be done anytime, no rush."
This work is organized and uploaded by Li Hua~~
"But you've already brewed so many potions these days." Fengnu turned around, "I think it's appropriate to relax a bit and do something else."
"Not enough." Conna shook her head lightly, "I think it's better to prepare a bit more."
...
Meanwhile, Kyle, who had left Busbaron, was also brought to Nicolas Blackmanor in Devonshire by Fox.
As soon as they landed, the house elf Tata rushed over.
"Master told me to wait here for sir."
"Thanks." Kyle patted his slightly dizzy head, "Where's Nicolas?"
"Master is in the alchemy room." Tata said, "I'll take sir there now."
The two entered a room on the right side of the entrance hall, the same room where the golden cup and pendant box were previously placed.
Nico was there, staring at a red crucible containing a pot of golden potion, but it was bubbling with blue bubbles.
"I thought you wouldn't be here for another two days." Nico looked up, "Didn't Viktor tell you that I needed some time to prepare first?"
"Yes, he did." Kyle nodded, "But I thought it would be better to come as soon as possible, and I could help a little."
"Although saying this might be a blow to you, Kyle, I can do this work alone, and you really can't help."
"Did you bring the things?" Nico asked, extending his hand.
"Yes, I did." Kyle quickly took out the Time Turner with its repaired outer shell.
"Ah, this is Viktor's handiwork." Nico examined it up and down, nodding in satisfaction, "Only he could make it so delicate, it's like new."
"Can't you do it?"
"I could three hundred years ago, but now, he does it better than me." Nico extended a twig-like hand and tapped on the Time Turner.
The golden shell automatically separated, and the five pointers also detached in order of length, neatly landing on the velvet cushion next to it.
Then, Kyle felt a flash before his eyes, and he found himself in the living room.
"Sir, this is what the master prepared for you." Tata stood beside him with a bottle of red potion, as if he had guessed that Kyle would appear here.
"What is this?" Kyle asked.
"Tata doesn't know." The house elf said, "The master only told Tata that this would be helpful to you."
"Um... okay." Kyle only thought for a moment before taking the potion and drinking it all.
The taste was quite good, a raspberry flavor, like juice.
But this was definitely not juice, and he could only wait to ask Nico what it was.
Kyle returned the empty bottle to Tata, and after receiving it, the elf bowed and said, "Then, Tata will go prepare lunch."
"Wait a moment." Kyle stopped him, "Isn't Lady Peregrine here?"
"The mistress went to France to watch the Veela dance troupe's performance. She'll probably be back in about two weeks." Tata said.
Veela dance troupe?
Kyle felt like he had heard this name before, and immediately remembered that this was the place recommended by Fengnu. She had also said that today was the troupe's performance day.
If he had agreed to Fengnu's suggestion, perhaps he could have met Lady Peregrine there.
After leaving Busbaron, Kyle stayed at Nico's manor.
But unlike the lively atmosphere at school, there was only him here.
Kyle had originally wanted to bond with the Feline Cheshire, but as soon as he let it out, Cheshire immediately puffed up, its blue eyes anxiously scanning every corner of the room, extremely nervous.
It seemed like there was something scary around, constantly stimulating its nerves.
Kyle felt that this should be some protective magic around the manor, like the alchemical dragon at the entrance. In a sense, it was indeed a dangerous place.
To help the Feline relax, Kyle could only put it back in the box, the room he used for storing items and temporary rest.
There was no other way, as his box also had a dragon, a basilisk, a poisonous panther... all of which would make the Feline with acute perception puff up. Only in that room would Cheshire feel a little more at ease.
Anyway, Kyle didn't need it for the time being, so he gave it to the Feline.
...
A few more days passed.
While reading, Kyle suddenly felt the light dim, and when he looked up, he found himself in the alchemy room again.
"Are you done?" He quickly closed the book in his hand and asked.
"Yes, but it's just the necessary preparation, not the actual restoration." Nico said.
Kyle noticed that the potion in the crucible had turned from gold to deep blue.
Nico took out a small bottle and waved it in front of him.
"Do you remember what this is?"
"The potion that Cona brought before, the one that can resurrect people?" Kyle replied tentatively.
This potion was too powerful, and he couldn't help but take a few more glances at it, remembering it clearly.
"Yes, the Phoenix Elixir." Nico opened the bottle and poured its contents into the crucible. The deep blue potion immediately turned golden and formed a small vortex.
"Originally, the defect in this Time Turner couldn't be eliminated, but the appearance of this thing changed everything." Nico sighed, "After all, Salazar Slytherin wrote the magic runes using the Phoenix Elixir."
Holding the wand, Nico gently waved it, and the potion in the crucible turned into a golden ribbon, flying to the opened Time Turner and automatically forming golden magic runes.
"This process will take some time." Nico looked at Kyle again, "The reason I asked you to come this time is that we still lack a material needed to restore the Philosopher's Stone, which has completely lost its magic power."
"What is it?" Kyle asked.
"The ashes of Phoenix Rebirth."
