Chapter 820: No One Understands Spirit Beasts Better Than Me
Chapter 820: No One Understands Spirit Beasts Better Than Me
Lu Chen was skeptical about this unknown method of acquiring treasures.
On the surface, the quality of the treasure one received seemed purely based on luck, but in reality, the decision lay with the Thunder Treasure Toad, a seventh-grade beast.
Choosing to blindly offer treasures in exchange for new ones might increase the chances of obtaining higher-grade items, but that was only a relative improvement.
If the offered treasure turned out to be inferior to what the toad spat out, the exchange would be a net loss.
Lu Chen even suspected the worst of Thunder Mars.
This treasure-for-treasure exchange could very well be a scheme to satisfy the high-grade beast's peculiar fetishes and collect treasures for Thunder Mars Cave.
With these thoughts in mind, Lu Chen decided to hold back and observe from the sidelines for the time being.
However, others did not share his hesitation.
Especially the numerous Foundation Establishment cultivators present, upon hearing that they could obtain unknown treasures from a seventh-grade beast, their expectations soared.
After all, this was the famed seventh-grade spirit beast of the Grand Master of Nascent Soul from the Star Cave. Whatever it chose to spit out would be invaluable to them.
Who knew, they might even be lucky enough to obtain a low-grade magical artifact or a fifth-grade cultivation technique. That could change their destiny, smoothing their cultivation path and propelling them to new heights.
This thought excited many of the Foundation Establishment cultivators.
"Those who have nothing to lose dare to challenge those who are already advantaged," one of them muttered, eyeing the massive Thunder Treasure Toad. "Although it's a seventh-grade beast, it won't dare cause trouble for cultivators from other factions here under everyone's watchful eyes."
"It's a rare opportunity to seize such a grand opportunity," another added. "If we don't take this chance, we might never find peace in our pursuits."
A Foundation Establishment cultivator at the mid-stage of his cultivation cycle took a deep breath to steady his nerves and overcome his fear of the seventh-grade beast. He stepped forward, approaching the toad that loomed like a small mountain.
"Please bestow a treasure upon me, revered Thunder Treasure Toad!" he said.
The toad's silver-white eyes glanced at him indifferently. Just as the cultivator was about to kneel from anticipation, the toad spat out a pill adorned with spiritual patterns.
"A fourth-grade Nurture Essence Pill!" someone exclaimed in surprise.
The cultivator was ecstatic. He couldn't believe he had obtained such a rare pill so effortlessly.
The Nurture Essence Pill, being fourth-grade, could enhance one's spiritual energy when consumed. For him, it was incredibly useful and valued at no less than eight thousand lower-grade spirit stones.
"Thank you, revered Thunder Treasure Toad!" he exclaimed repeatedly, expressing his gratitude before reluctantly stepping back to make way for others.
Each Foundation Establishment cultivator only had one chance, so they had to make the most of it.
"Revered Thunder Treasure Toad, I have a fourth-grade flying sword here. It's of fine quality, and I hope you'll like it," the next cultivator said as he stepped forward, inspired by the previous exchange. He decided to take a gamble and offer his fourth-grade flying sword in hopes of obtaining something even more valuable.
The toad's nose twitched, and the offered flying sword, shimmering with spiritual light, vanished into its body. A ball of radiant light emerged from its mouth.
The late-stage Foundation Establishment cultivator stared at the ball of light, his eyes gleaming with anticipation.
As the light faded, a plain spiritual herb appeared before him.
"A... second-grade herb?" he asked, his voice filled with disbelief.
His lips twitched as he considered asking if the toad had made a mistake, but he ultimately chose to step back in disappointment.
One by one, cultivators stepped forward, some overflowing with emotion and heartfelt pleas, while others gambled boldly, offering artifacts, talismans, and treasures of varying grades in exchange for new items.
The outcomes varied. Some left with joy, while others were dejected.
Some received high-grade treasures without offering anything, while others traded fifth-grade items only to receive something of lesser value.
"Everyone has the same mentality, always seeking to gain the highest value at the lowest cost, or even something for nothing," Lu Chen mused to himself. "Unfortunately, only a select few can achieve this, while the majority simply contribute to Thunder Mars Cave's treasure vault."
As he observed the varying reactions of the cultivators, Lu Chen couldn't help but sigh inwardly at the sight of their obsession and frenzy over this treasure-spitting beast. "If these cultivators were aware of the existence of the light spheres, wouldn't their Dao hearts shatter and undergo a transformation on the spot?" he thought to himself.
He still intended to make use of his three chances. The question was whether to simply accept the default treasures or to 'whale' and increase his chances of obtaining better items.
"Perhaps I can approach this from the giant toad itself," Lu Chen thought. He believed that the Thunder Treasure Toad possessed many rare treasures, but the probability of drawing them was incredibly low.
However, he was different. With his unique ability to understand the temperament and preferences of spirit beasts, he might be able to devise a targeted strategy to obtain those rare treasures from the toad.
With this in mind, Lu Chen made his decision and prepared to make the most of his three chances.
"What a pity, to use all three chances and only obtain a fourth-grade talisman, while the other two items are utterly ordinary," a disappointed Core Formation cultivator lamented as he descended from the platform.
Lu Chen lightly leaped forward, approaching the Thunder Treasure Toad. "Greetings, Elder Thunder Toad," he said respectfully, offering a courteous bow.
The giant toad lay lazily on the ground, unmoving.
Undeterred, Lu Chen took out a plump, pink-white spirit peach from his storage bag. It was a third-grade 'Enchanting Peach' that he had cultivated himself. Its taste was exquisite, and consuming it over a long period had the effect of preserving one's youth.
"Please bestow a treasure upon me," Lu Chen said, presenting the peach to the toad.
A bolt of thunderous energy swept the peach into the toad's mouth. Simultaneously, a radiant ball of light shot out and hovered before Lu Chen.
"A third-grade talisman, not bad. Its value is slightly higher than the Enchanting Peach," Lu Chen noted, sweeping his gaze over the talisman before storing it away. As he did so, he quietly focused his spiritual sense on the giant toad before him.
Instantly, a thought flashed through his sea of consciousness:
[Thunder Treasure Toad, a seventh-grade beast that excels in thunder-attributed secret arts. It frequently traverses the void and realms, collecting all sorts of rare treasures. Possesses a spatial divine ability, creating a small world within its belly.]
[Enjoys consuming thunder-attributed spirit fruits and flowers.]
[These insignificant items in exchange for my collection of treasures! How infuriating!]
"..." Lu Chen was surprised to discover the toad's true thoughts. However, he could understand its frustration, as these cultivators were like pesky ants, constantly bothering it and attempting to obtain its treasures without offering anything in return.
"Excellent, I now know how to conquer this seventh-grade beast, whose strength is equivalent to a Nascent Soul cultivator," Lu Chen said with a slight upward curve of his lips.
"No one understands spirit beasts better than I do," he added confidently.
