Chapter 82: The Unknown Wizard's Apprentice
Chapter 82: The Unknown Wizard's Apprentice
The Earl of Storm's eyes were wide with shock as he stared at the scene before him, his mind blank and his mouth agape.
How did this happen?
Lord Marquess had assured him that these beastmen were highly effective against wizards and would easily subdue Su Nan. So why were they all lying on the ground, frozen solid?
This was absurd! He couldn't make sense of it!
The air was thick with a bone-chilling cold.
Su Nan's eyes glinted with satisfaction as he surveyed the dozen or so motionless ice sculptures of beastmen.
Back when he had faced Hodg, these beastmen would have been a significant threat. The Marquess of Golden Rock had correctly assessed his former strength and used the beastmen as his trump card. But times had changed. Su Nan now had more resources and a deeper understanding of his capabilities, while the Marquess's knowledge of him was hopelessly outdated.
Turning his gaze from the ice sculptures, Su Nan looked at the Earl of Storm.
Meeting Su Nan's cold, indifferent stare, the Earl felt as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over him, snapping him back to reality.
"Stop him!"
The Earl's voice trembled with fear as he ordered his personal guards to intercept Su Nan, while he himself scrambled backward in a panic.
The guards, though terrified, dared not disobey. They steeled themselves and charged at Su Nan.
Their efforts were met with a wave of searing flames!
Burning Hand!
Intense heat erupted from Su Nan's palm, forming a cone of flame that swept forward, engulfing an area of over a hundred square meters.
The charging soldiers were instantly transformed into blazing torches, screaming in agony as they fell to the ground, rolling and struggling. Soon, their cries faded into silence.
But just as Su Nan had dispatched the guards, two more officers rushed to the scene, having heard the Earl's cries for help.
The brilliant auras enveloping their bodies clearly marked them as Great Knights.
"Troublesome."
Without hesitation, Su Nan hurled two rune gems at them.
Boom!
Bolts of lightning tore through the night sky!
The two Great Knights, who had been charging forward with fierce determination, never even got within five meters of Su Nan before they were reduced to charred corpses, collapsing to the ground.
Su Nan didn't spare a glance at the blackened bodies. He vanished in a blur, chasing after the Earl of Storm with the speed of the wind.
Seeing this, the Earl's heart nearly leapt out of his chest. He wished he had more legs to run with.
However, he was only a Low Knight, and his speed was no match for Su Nan, who could rival a Peak Knight. It took only moments for Su Nan to catch up.
A grayish beam of light shot through the air like an arrow, striking the fleeing Earl.
Ray of Enfeeblement!
The Earl was immediately overwhelmed by a wave of weakness. His legs gave out, and he crumpled to the ground, landing in a heap.
Ignoring the pain, he struggled to his feet, turning to face Su Nan with sheer terror in his eyes.
"Don't, don't kill me. Please, spare me!"
Su Nan raised an eyebrow, a look of disdain flashing in his eyes.
He had met the previous Earl of Storm, a man of stern demeanor and unyielding will, a true Great Knight.
In comparison, this one was a perfect example of a weak son born to a strong father.
Without a word, Su Nan cast a Sleep Spell, rendering the Earl unconscious.
The decision on what to do with the Earl of Storm would be left to Koi.
Surveying the area, Su Nan saw the devastating aftermath of the stone golem's rampage. The soldiers of Stormhold lay dead or dying, their bodies strewn across the battlefield.
The few remaining soldiers who were still putting up a fight lost their will to continue once they saw the Earl of Storm being captured. They dropped their weapons and fled in disarray.
Soon after, Koi and his men burst into the scene.
To prevent any unexpected developments, Su Nan had previously arranged for Hidden Dragon to stay by Koi’s side.
With Hidden Dragon’s assistance, they charged in smoothly, encountering almost no significant resistance.
Seeing Su Nan unharmed, Koi immediately felt a weight lift off his chest.
Although he knew Su Nan was strong, the fact that he had ventured deep into enemy territory couldn’t help but make him worry.
Now, seeing Su Nan completely unscathed, he finally felt at ease.
Relieved, Koi couldn’t help but marvel at Su Nan’s prowess. Single-handedly infiltrating the enemy camp and emerging unscathed, crushing the opposition—only Su Nan could pull off such a feat.
Bred and the others, who were following behind, soon noticed the icy ground and were taken aback.
“What is this?”
“Look over there, so many ice sculptures!”
“Did Lord Su Nan do this?”
Seeing the vast area of ice that covered over a hundred square meters, everyone instinctively swallowed hard.
Only Lord Su Nan could achieve such a remarkable feat!
“This is the new Earl of Storm. I’ll leave him to you.”
Su Nan pointed to the Earl of Storm lying on the ground.
“Thank you,” Koi said, his face beaming with excitement.
After tonight’s battle, the Storm Army was no longer a threat. They could now launch an attack on the Winter Frost Army to lift the siege on Chilin City.
Once they defeated the Earl of Winter Frost, the Flashing Land would have a chance to catch its breath.
If they moved quickly, they could take advantage of the enemy’s confusion and swiftly annex the Storm and Winter Frost territories, significantly boosting their own strength!
The tide had turned in their favor!
“Take this man and imprison him.”
Koi ordered his soldiers to drag the unconscious Earl of Storm away, then turned to look at the ice sculptures.
“What are those?”
“Beastmen,” Su Nan said succinctly.
Koi was shocked. How did beastmen end up here?
But he quickly realized that they were likely meant to counter Su Nan.
It seemed that the Marquess of Golden Rock had greatly underestimated Su Nan’s power, as the beastmen had been utterly ineffective.
Koi thought to himself that this was understandable, as even he, Su Nan’s older brother, couldn’t gauge Su Nan’s true strength.
The number of hidden cards and techniques Su Nan possessed was simply staggering!
“Now we can be certain that the spread of the Beastman Syndrome is the work of the Marquess of Golden Rock!” Koi’s brow furrowed. “That old man is truly ruthless, willing to sacrifice countless lives for his own gain.”
Su Nan said gravely, “The Marquess of Golden Rock alone couldn’t orchestrate something of this scale. I suspect there might be a wizard’s apprentice behind him.”
“A wizard’s apprentice?” Koi paled.
With Su Nan as a living example, Koi had a deep understanding of the power of a wizard’s apprentice.
If the Marquess of Golden Rock had a wizard’s apprentice backing him, the situation would be far more complicated.
“Right now, it’s just a suspicion. I need to study these items to be sure.”
Su Nan glanced at the blood-veined bone tooth in his hand and then at the ice sculptures nearby.
He planned to dissect these beastmen overnight to determine if they were the work of another wizard’s apprentice.
“I still need those ice sculptures. Send some men to transport them back to Firefly City.”
“Of course, I’ll have it done right away.”
Koi nodded worriedly and turned to give the orders.
