Chapter 82: Christmas Eve (First Update)
Chapter 82: Christmas Eve (First Update)
The flying speed of the Nimbus 2000 was indeed far superior to that of an ordinary broom.
This time, Jerry caught the Golden Snitch much faster than when he had bet against Marcus and the others.
The Golden Snitch is only the size of a walnut and seems to have a mind of its own, making it particularly adept at evading capture. While a broom can keep up with it, the Seeker's physical abilities aren't much better than those of an average person, making it very difficult to catch the Snitch.
However, after activating Superman Mode, Jerry's senses were greatly enhanced, and his control over his body reached the level of a martial arts master.
In ancient times, martial arts masters could catch flies with chopsticks. For Jerry, reaching out to grab a walnut-sized Golden Snitch wasn't much of a challenge.
The only thing that limited him was the speed of the broom.
As Jerry descended with the Golden Snitch in hand, landing in front of Referee Madam Hooch, the entire stadium seemed to pause.
Angelina, who had just seized the Quaffle, stopped her next throw. The faces of the Quidditch players from both teams were frozen in shock, and the young wizards in the stands collectively gaped in amazement.
Even Madam Hooch was stunned for a full ten seconds before she reacted, reaching out to take the Golden Snitch from Jerry.
After a quick inspection to confirm it was the match's Golden Snitch, Madam Hooch announced the result.
"Slytherin—wins!"
On the commentary stand, Lee Jordan, seeing Madam Hooch's signal, loudly declared the match results.
"Slytherin! Slytherin! Slytherin!"
"Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!"
Lee Jordan's words seemed to hit the play button again, and the entire stadium erupted in a frenzy of excitement. The Slytherin young wizards, in particular, began to cheer wildly.
From the initial loud chants of "Slytherin" to the subsequent shouts of "Jerry", the mood was electric.
Slytherin had won matches before, and they had even won the Quidditch Cup, but never in such a swift, decisive, and legendary manner.
The entire match, from start to finish, lasted less than two minutes, and the Golden Snitch was caught less than a minute after it was released.
This was not just a record-breaking performance at Hogwarts; it was a record-breaking performance in the history of Quidditch. How could the Slytherin wizards not feel excited and proud?
The Slytherin Quidditch team members, Marcus and the others, all landed, abandoning their brooms, and lifted Jerry, cheering as they repeatedly threw him into the air.
While they had mentally prepared for this outcome after Jerry's previous performance, the reality of it still left them as uncomposed as the young wizards in the stands.
They knew that as long as Jerry was around, the Slytherin team would have no rivals for the next seven years.
The only downside was that their future matches would be much less eventful.
Thus, Hogwarts' first Quidditch match of the year concluded in this legendary fashion.
And Jerry's name spread throughout Hogwarts, even reaching the wizards in Hogsmeade.
The greatest Seeker, Jerry, was thus born!
In contrast, Jerry himself remained remarkably calm. All he could think about was finishing the match as soon as possible so he could get back to studying Magic.
After the first Quidditch match, Jerry found that he had become even more popular in the days that followed.
Not only the wizards from Slytherin, but even those from the other three houses would smile and greet him enthusiastically whenever they met him on campus. Some young wizards even started giving him various nicknames.
For example: "Speedy Jerry", "Ball King", "Golden Snitch Hunter", and "Quidditch Legend", among others.
Of course, these were all positive influences for Jerry.
His newfound fame and good relationships gave him an advantage in many aspects, which was generally very beneficial.
However, during this time, he also noticed a less favorable issue.
While his time in the Main World was on hold, his physical growth was not. He seemed to have grown taller.
This meant that his body and age would mature faster in both worlds than they would in either world alone.
For instance, if he stayed in this world for seven or eight years before returning to the Main World, he would instantly transform from an eleven-year-old child into an adult in his late teens.
This would make it almost impossible to keep his identity hidden.
Originally, a child as exceptional as him standing out in areas frequented by wizards was already quite noticeable and might have already caught the attention of S.H.I.E.L.D.
The reason they hadn't confirmed his identity was likely due to his use of Chinese, which had misled them.
He had planned to be more low-key when he started middle school, trying to minimize the chances of being suspected. Once he became powerful enough, he wouldn't have to worry anymore.
But if his body showed significant changes, it would be nearly impossible to keep it a secret.
Of course, this wasn't the most pressing issue. With Magic and potions, he had ways to address the problem.
What truly troubled him was the issue of lifespan.
While wizards generally lived longer than ordinary humans, the difference wasn't substantial. Continuously traveling between worlds, and potentially to other worlds if the Panel opened them, could mean that while his peers in the Main World were just reaching adulthood, he could be nearing the end of his life.
Therefore, he began to consider the possibility of embarking on an adventure to obtain the philosopher's stone that could be used to brew a longevity potion.
Although the philosopher's stone had significant drawbacks, it would at least allow him to continue living. The longer he lived, the more time he would have to find other solutions.
However, stealing the philosopher's stone right under Dumbledore's nose was no easy feat.
For now, he could only take things one step at a time, hoping that a better solution would present itself.
Time quickly passed, and it was soon mid-December. Hogwarts was covered in thick snow, and the Black Lake had frozen over completely.
Christmas was approaching, and the first semester at Hogwarts would end a week before Christmas, with the second semester beginning in early January.
Young wizards could choose to spend Christmas at Hogwarts or go home.
Last week, Jerry had already signed his name on the list of students returning home.
He wasn't planning to spend the holiday at the orphanage; he had his own special plans and intentions.
