Chapter 819: The Plan to Dominate the World
Chapter 819: The Plan to Dominate the World
Ivan vaguely picked up on Dumbledore’s implications, but the latter didn’t elaborate further, continuing instead with his words.
"Decades ago, there was someone who, like you, hoped to change the status quo in the Wizarding World… Of course, his ideas were far more radical than yours!"
"Are you talking about Grindelwald?!" Ivan raised an eyebrow, almost instantly guessing who Dumbledore was referring to.
"Ah, so you are familiar with him?" Dumbledore asked, somewhat surprised.
"I read about Grindelwald in Modern Wizarding Great Events. It says he wanted Wizards to live openly in the world, and even go further to rule over Muggles… Is that correct?" Ivan asked, half-serious and half-probing.
Dumbledore first nodded, then shook his head.
"That’s one way to put it, but it’s not entirely accurate.
Grindelwald believed that Wizards and Muggles could not coexist peacefully, and that a race’s status could not be achieved through negotiation or tolerance. War was inevitable, and the outcome would be the dominance of one over the other. Rather than waiting for Muggles to make the first move, he thought Wizards should initiate the conflict!"
While we still have the power to do so…
Dumbledore silently swallowed the last part of his thought.
"Did Grindelwald believe he could win against the Muggles? Secure victory in the war?" Ivan asked, puzzled.
In his mind, while Wizards’ magic was indeed powerful, it was far from enough to conquer the Muggle world.
"Grindelwald spent decades traveling the world, spreading his ideology and gaining the support of many Wizards. His followers were spread across the globe", Dumbledore said, his tone tinged with a hint of admiration. His expression softened for a moment, but he quickly regained his composure and continued. "Moreover, he chose the perfect moment to put his plan into action…"
"The two World Wars?!" Ivan murmured, suddenly recalling that Grindelwald’s most active period coincided with the times before and after the First and Second World Wars.
Back then, Muggles were at each other’s throats, embroiled in constant conflict, making it the ideal time for Wizards to step onto the historical stage!
"So, Grindelwald wanted to incite war among the Muggles, weaken their strength, or perhaps directly represent the Wizards and join one of the factions, manipulating and winning over their leaders, and then find a way to win the war?" Ivan speculated, equally impressed by Grindelwald’s grand scheme.
More importantly, this plan seemed feasible.
Wizards, with their magical abilities, were a force that both sides in the war would vie for.
Compared to the Allies, who already dominated the world order, Germany, as an emerging power, was more in line with Grindelwald’s goals. By joining the German forces, who lacked allies, Wizards could easily gain official recognition.
Next, with the right propaganda and by demonstrating their prowess in the war, Wizards could turn the tide and gradually earn the support of soldiers and civilians.
Finally, by secretly infiltrating the Muggle upper echelons, waiting for the war to end, and using war merits, bloodline theories, and strong-arm tactics, Wizards could become a privileged class, thus realizing the dream of Wizard rule over Muggles…
"An impressive plan…" Ivan couldn’t help but marvel after piecing together Grindelwald’s strategy.
Though he didn’t agree with such ideas, he admired Grindelwald’s meticulous planning and the effort he put into finding a viable path for Wizards, one that he believed could work.
"Indeed, it is impressive, but this is ultimately just a castle in the air. He can't even complete the first step of his plan..." Dumbledore said softly.
"Why do you say that?" Ivan looked at Dumbledore in surprise.
"Grindelwald does not represent all Wizards. The number of those who oppose him is no less than those who support him!" Dumbledore's expression was very serious. "For example, the International Confederation of Wizards has been trying to capture Grindelwald and put an end to his evil plans. In fact, they have had some success, managing to send Grindelwald to prison, but he escaped due to poor supervision."
Ivan immediately understood. Grindelwald couldn't resolve the internal conflicts among Wizards, making it impossible to implement his various schemes.
If he rashly joined the Axis powers, the Allies would also have a large number of Wizards fighting on their side, and the balance of power would remain unchanged...
Moreover, if his memory served him right, Grindelwald's downfall in 1945 coincided with Germany's surrender, which was a significant detail to ponder.
Ivan stroked his chin, suddenly thinking that the current state of Wizards might be somewhat similar to the mutants in movies and TV shows from his previous life, divided into the peace-loving doves and the war-mongering hawks.
The constant struggle between the two sides only drained their already limited strength, causing destruction and increasing the hatred of ordinary people towards mutants.
The only thing that made Ivan feel relieved was that Wizards had Memory Charms and Muggle-Repelling Charms, allowing them to remain hidden and avoid arousing the hostility of Muggles.
"Has Grindelwald thought about how to reverse this unfavorable situation?" Ivan asked Dumbledore, looking at him. Given the grandeur of his plans, Grindelwald must have had extraordinary means and wouldn't give up so easily.
"Destroy Paris!" Dumbledore said slowly.
"Wh-what?!" Ivan was utterly stunned.
How did it suddenly come to destroying Paris? Even defamation wasn't like this...
"What do you think the consequences would be if an important Muggle city were destroyed?" Dumbledore didn't answer immediately but instead posed a question.
"If that happened, the existence of Wizards would be known to everyone, and Muggles would fall into panic... But... they wouldn't surrender just because one city was destroyed. On the contrary, this would greatly deepen the Muggles' hostility towards Wizards, enraging them and possibly sparking a full-scale war!" Ivan tried to deduce.
Dumbledore nodded. "Grindelwald wanted to deliberately create this hostility, forcing all neutral Wizards to side with him... It's a high-stakes gamble, with the future of the entire Wizarding World on the line!"
"Truly insane..." Ivan muttered.
"Obviously, he failed. The Aurors who arrived in time worked together to stop his magic, preventing the tragedy from occurring", Dumbledore said coldly.
Ivan wasn't surprised by this, as historically, Paris was still standing and hadn't been destroyed by Fiendfyre.
"By the way, Professor, how do you know all this so well?" Ivan suddenly asked.
According to Dumbledore, Grindelwald's meticulously planned scheme didn't even get off the ground, and subsequent events forced significant changes, deviating from the original plan. So how did Dumbledore know the entire plan?
