Chapter 819: Special Mission - Regicide
Chapter 819: Special Mission - Regicide
September 25, 2017
The actions of Outsiders are often driven by simple logic, with the exception of a few deviants, they usually act for their own interests.
Lu HaiKong was no exception to this rule.
And it was precisely because of this understanding that Lu HaiKong was certain that Princess Gaoyang and her group had orchestrated this elaborate scheme for a significant gain.
In his current position of control, Lu HaiKong's primary objective was to uncover their true intentions and then seize their reward.
For Lu HaiKong, the best revenge against Princess Gaoyang and her group wasn't direct elimination but rather disrupting their carefully laid plans, snatching their hard-earned rewards right before their eyes, and making them witness their own schemes being used to benefit others. This would be the most devastating blow to their morale.
Initially, Princess Gaoyang couldn't fathom Lu HaiKong's intentions, but when he forced her to reveal the mission details, she began to grasp his plan. Her initial compliance turned to hesitation as she realized the true nature of his interrogation.
Princess Gaoyang's face showed hesitation, and she hesitated to reveal the mission details, even as Lu HaiKong's eyes narrowed, observing her closely.
"So, you're reluctant to show me now? It seems this mission has some tricks up its sleeve."
Princess Gaoyang's eyebrows rose slightly, her face contorting with pain from the needles piercing her limbs and the broken arm, but she maintained her composure. Still, Lu HaiKong's keen eyes caught the subtle change in her expression.
"So, you're hiding something. Is it the mission reward you don't want me to see, or is there something wrong with the mission itself?"
As Lu HaiKong spoke, his eyes remained fixed on Princess Gaoyang's face. If one looked closely, they would notice a heightened brightness in Lu HaiKong's eyes, and after a moment, he broke into a smile.
"It's the latter, I see."
Princess Gaoyang's face paled slightly, but she quickly regained her composure, her expression turning as calm as still water.
Lu HaiKong's earlier actions were a subtle application of Heaven's Eye Technique, allowing him to scrutinize Princess Gaoyang's micro-expressions and gather subtle intelligence through this method of interrogation.
However, this tactic wasn't foolproof, especially against someone as resilient as Princess Gaoyang. After a few missteps, she quickly adjusted, realizing he was onto her, but by then, the revelation held little value.
Lu HaiKong reached out and pulled a needle from Princess Gaoyang's right arm.
"My apologies, I almost forgot. You're supposed to convince me."
Lu HaiKong's tone was gentle, as if chatting with an old friend, but the needle in his hand inched closer to Princess Gaoyang's bright eyes.
"Show me your mission details. I'm not fond of using force against a woman, but if necessary, I won't hold back."
Facing this threat, Princess Gaoyang hesitated.
In reality, even at this moment, she continued to resist Lu HaiKong, knowing that her resistance only piqued his interest in her mission.
The more interested Lu HaiKong became, the more time she could buy, and the greater her chances of survival.
Women seemed to possess an innate talent for acting. Despite her decision to reveal the mission to stall for time, she feigned reluctance, waiting until Lu HaiKong's needle was about to pierce her eyes.
"Don't hurt me, I'll show you the mission details!"
Hearing Princess Gaoyang's voice, tinged with fear, Lu HaiKong smiled, and the needle that was about to pierce her eyes halted.
As Lu HaiKong moved the needle away from her eyes, Princess Gaoyang breathed a sigh of relief. After calming herself, she brought up her mission details, setting it to a readable state, and placed it before Lu HaiKong.
As the mission details appeared before him, Lu HaiKong's eyes flashed with intensity.
Princess Gaoyang's missions were indeed numerous. One was a plot mission to bring Dong Zhuo to the capital, which Lu HaiKong didn't pay much attention to, as he already had a similar one. Earlier, when He Jin had Dong Zhuo enter the capital, Lu HaiKong had received this mission and even made some progress on it.
Therefore, this mission didn't interest Lu HaiKong much. What truly caught his attention were the two missions below it.
Title: The Royal Bloodline Mission
Chapter:
The mission type was labeled as a Bloodline Task, and its description was intriguing. As a descendant of the royal family, one's honor and shame were intertwined with the rise and fall of the Han Dynasty. Thus, it was one's duty to revive the Han Dynasty.
The first phase of the mission was to possess one's own city, but the completion rate was currently at zero. The reward for this phase was a random high-level building.
This mission seemed intriguing, similar to the early stages of Lu Hai Kong's bandit profession. The reward for such a task was likely substantial, perhaps even better than what Lu Hai Kong had previously encountered. After all, his missions were part of the main storyline, while Lu Hai Kong's previous mission after leaving Wang Dazi's mountain fortress was entirely dependent on luck and chance encounters.
However, it seemed that Gao Yang had no intention of completing this task, as the completion rate remained at zero. What a waste of a potentially rewarding mission.
At this point, Lu Hai Kong's attention briefly shifted to the last task on the list. His eyes widened as he read its description.
Regicide
Task Type: Special/Unique
Task Description: As the most noble person in the realm, the Emperor embodies the nation's fate and fortune. Killing the Emperor will yield unimaginable rewards.
Task Reward: One Divine Armory weapon.
Note: This is a special and unique task. Only one person can accept it.
Transferable!
In the 6191 version, one can see this task.
Upon reading this task, Lu Hai Kong finally understood why Gao Yang had been so resistant to showing him this task.
Lu Hai Kong looked at the Regicide task for a moment, then turned his gaze to Gao Yang, "I think you should know what to do now."
Gao Yang replied, "I can give you this task, but you must promise not to kill me!" She looked directly into Lu Hai Kong's eyes.
"That's not a problem. Transfer the task to me, and I'll release you immediately!" Lu Hai Kong agreed without hesitation.
"Do you take me for a fool? What if I give you the task, but you don't release me afterward?" Gao Yang asked, her face filled with indignation.
"It seems you haven't grasped your situation yet. You have no choice, and even less room to bargain. I advise you to transfer the task honestly."
At these words, Gao Yang's anger flared. "Impossible! If you can't guarantee my release, I'd rather die than transfer this task to you!"
As she spoke, her gaze briefly swept over Emperor Ling of Han, her expression betraying a hint of emotion, but her face remained indignant.
Lu Hai Kong's lips curved into a mocking smile as he observed Gao Yang's indignant expression.
"How much longer?" he asked.
Gao Yang was taken aback by Lu Hai Kong's sudden, seemingly nonsensical question. She didn't understand what he meant.
"I'm asking how much longer you need," Lu Hai Kong clarified, his smile turning more playful.
"You've been waiting for your companion, haven't you? Are you waiting for them to come and rescue you, or for their dragon vein's fortune to turn the tide? Since capturing you, I've been quite accommodating, allowing you to stall for over ten minutes. I'm getting impatient. How much longer do you need to turn the tables?"
"I don't understand what you're saying," Gao Yang said, her face a mix of shock and confusion.
Lu Hai Kong patted Gao Yang's face. "Don't treat others like fools. Why do you think I've kept Emperor Ling alive? I know you have a companion, and yet here I am, wasting time with you. If I hadn't given you a glimmer of hope for survival, how could you have so obediently revealed the task to me?"
"And don't think I came here alone. Calculate the time; your companion should be here by now."
Gao Yang's face paled at these words. She hadn't expected this bandit, Lu Hai Kong, to possess such cunning. From the start, he had anticipated her actions, using Emperor Ling and Li Hui's situation to give her a glimmer of hope, making her more willing to reveal the task to buy time.
What shocked Gao Yang even more was that Lu Hai Kong seemed to have already gained control over Li Hui.
Almost simultaneously, another figure entered the Emperor's chamber. This person, dressed in white, carried a silver-white short sword in one hand and dragged a young man behind him.
Gao Yang was stunned by the sight of the white-clad figure.
The person in white had an exquisite appearance and an outstanding aura, but the young man being dragged by him presented a stark contrast.
Gao Yang could only glance at the young man once before she had to look away. His current state was too pitiful, so pitiful that Gao Yang couldn't bear to look.
