Chapter 819: Duel for Treasures Start
Chapter 819: Duel for Treasures Start
"Hey hey hey, what a special day is this?"
On a warship with a spider-like prow cutting through the sea, a freakish figure resembling a walking bamboo pole sat cross-legged on the deck. His elongated neck, arms, and legs twisted grotesquely as he sneered toward two parallel ships:
"Rare to see fellow treasure-hunters. Are you here for supplies, or to play the game?"
One ship was a rugged warship replica – iron-plated hull bristling with cannons, its deck swarming with hundreds of pirates. The second vessel bore a thunder-wielding statue at its prow, its skeleton crew of thirty built for speed.
"None of your business", growled a broad-shouldered man wrapped in a black hooded cloak from the warship replica. The cloak's back bore two white characters: Wicked. His slicked-back hair framed a hawkish face – unmistakably Vice Admiral Feglie, former Navy officer and ex-Navyvice Admiral codenamed Black Hound.
On the speedboat, a one-eyed man with a leather eyepatch remained silent.
"Tsk tsk tsk", the lanky pirate's head swiveled like a puppet on strings. "I'm here for the treasure hunt too! Don't try stealing my glory – it's been ages since I stretched these limbs. Let's show the world who Bug King Rots is!" The hybrid of Longneck, Longarm, and Longleg tribes stood like a skeletal walking stick insect.
"Looking to make your mark in this farming region?" The eyepatched man scoffed. "How noble of you."
"Hello!!"
A bullhorn blast echoed from the island's highest platform. A rotund pirate in a pink tailcoat waved a microphone, his mechanical left arm clanking while his wooden right leg thumped the stage. "Are you enjoying yourselves, pirates?!" he barked.
"OH!!!" The crowd roared.
"Yes! The Pirate World Expo returns after decades! Same rules as always – robbery, fraud, anything goes! We're pirates, after all! But one law stands: NO One tells the Navy! Traitors will be hunted by every pirate here!"
"OH!!!" The cheers shook the island.
The pink-clad host twirled his wooden leg, then leapt aside in an oddly agile motion. From behind emerged a green-haired maiden in a green-and-white puffed skirt.
"Our famous singer, Anniemiss!"
The big screen displayed her freckled face.
"Is she really famous?" Kuro, now aboard a ship, watched the stage. The host's appearance meant games would begin soon.
"Extremely", nodded Klah. "Top-tier pop idol."
"Roooar!" A fire-breathing Red Dragon suddenly erupted from the sea, sending pirates scrambling.
"Annie eats the Phantom Devil Fruit, becoming Phantom Human – she projects phantom illusions of anything she touches!" Anniemiss waved sweetly.
Kuro blew smoke from his cigar, unimpressed. The dragon had no life aura – a cheap trick.
"Where's Smoker?" he scanned his ship.
"Still investigating", Klah reported. "Forget him."
Kuro tapped his cigar. "Signal them to move in."
Klah pulled out a Transponder Snail, dialing rapidly.
"Not yet", Kuro watched the screen. "Let's have some fun first."
The host continued: "This Expo chose Roger's island for a reason! When the Great Pirate Era began, Gol·D·Roger buried his treasure here, leaving – In the deepest darkness lie our answers. Time to solve his riddle!"
The sea erupted in shockwaves. Kuro spotted a vortex swallowing seawater at the triple-branch channel's center.
"Oho, things are getting spicy."
Hundreds of pirate ships crowded the channel – from millions to billions bounty hunters. Kuro estimated three to five thousand pirates had gathered.
"Kuro, did your current create that vortex?" Lida eyed the spiraling maelstrom.
"Impossible. If I were, the island itself would tremble, not just the channel center", Kuro chewed his cigar. "Something's coming."
His fingers clenched. The pirate ship lifted slightly, gliding under his invisible control.
Boom!!
The vortex erupted into a massive water tower, shattering nearby ships. Inside the geyser, a giant bubble rose – and within it...
"Land! IT'S AN Island!"
The host screamed: "The skyward current holds a bubble! Inside lies Roger's treasure island! The Treasure Hunt Begins!!"
"Interesting", murmured Shimmering Blade Austin, fingers brushing twin katanas on his ship. "Time to play."
"Think you'll win, Austin?" his rival's ship bellowed. Living Ghost Tao Te·Luo Ke grinned.
At the forefront, a figure strode forward, challenging both: "Let's settle our score from last time. Whoever claims the treasure first wins."
Near-God Mcauley Warner.
