Chapter 817: Unresolvable Contradictions
Chapter 817: Unresolvable Contradictions
After a brief moment of distraction, Ivan picked up the cup on the table and took a sip. The warm liquid flowed down his throat and quickly filled his stomach, the rising heat gradually dispelling the winter chill. The slightly bitter taste lingered on his tongue, invigorating him.
Across from him, Dumbledore also held his cup and took a gentle sip before suddenly asking, "What do you think of the current Wizarding World, Hals?"
Dumbledore's question caught Ivan off guard. He was a bit puzzled by the sudden change in topic, but after a moment of thought, he responded.
"Professor, I believe the political system of the British Wizarding World is overly corrupt and outdated. Some laws were established hundreds of years ago and are no longer suitable for the present era. They desperately need reform..."
"You may not be aware, but while I was in Knockturn Alley, I saw many impoverished Wizards. Some of them earn less than ten Galleons a month, struggling to make ends meet. This is clearly unjust." Ivan spoke with conviction.
"Muggles have their rich and poor, and Wizards are no different..." Dumbledore said noncommittally.
"But Wizards are different from Muggles. They possess Magic, which can be used for far more important purposes. They should be able to lead better lives with their abilities, rather than working as laborers or thieves in Knockturn Alley!" Ivan argued earnestly.
He did not agree with Dumbledore's stance. In Ivan's view, any Wizard capable of Magic could create value far exceeding that of ordinary Muggles.
They could use Magic to make objects grow, shrink, float, or transform... Skilled Wizards could even create independent spaces.
This power could play a crucial role in many areas. If combined with Muggle technology, it could spark the next industrial revolution and significantly improve the quality of life for all humanity.
As for the conflict between industrial items and Magic?
Ivan believed it was not insurmountable. In fact, many Wizards had attempted to integrate the two, such as Sirius Black's flying motorcycle and Hagrid's enchanted motorcycle, as well as Arthur Weasley's modified Magic Car.
These examples demonstrated that combining Magic and technology was entirely feasible...
The only issue was that these creations relied on the user's Magic as a power source, making them unusable by Muggles and difficult to popularize. Wizards typically traveled using fireplaces or Apparition, so they had no real need for vehicles.
This might be why, despite the potential, few Wizards chose to delve deeply into this area of research.
However, this was precisely what Nicolas Flamel had been studying in his later years. The solution was a Magic Power Storage Device, or a degraded version of the Philosopher's Stone!
According to alchemical notes, if the Philosopher's Stone were further researched and improved to reduce costs and enable mass production, it could become a new form of energy, much like a battery. This would allow Muggles to experience the wonders of Magic.
A new civilization combining Magic and technology would thus be born...
Ivan had no intention of hiding these thoughts from Dumbledore. He spoke openly, eager to hear the opinion of the most powerful Wizard in the world on his plans.
Listening to Ivan's account, Dumbledore pondered for a long while, his expression unreadable. Finally, he spoke slowly, "So you want to reveal the existence of Wizards to the public?"
"Yes!" Ivan nodded without hesitation. He had read the Ministry of Magic's files and knew that Dumbledore was one of the staunchest supporters of the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy. However, Ivan was not going to lie about this, as he was convinced that his approach was the right one.
"Have you thought about how to resolve the conflicts between Muggles and Wizards?" Dumbledore did not seem angry at Ivan's answer; he simply continued to ask, "Or, to put it another way, what role do you envision Wizards playing in the Muggle world?"
"Perhaps Wizards would become a highly specialized, high-paying profession based solely on talent?" Ivan was somewhat uncertain, as he had not really considered this issue beforehand. He steeled himself to answer.
"That would be very difficult to achieve..." Dumbledore smiled and shook his head, taking another sip from his cup. He sighed, "And they wouldn't be satisfied with that!"
Ivan fell silent, of course, he knew what Dumbledore meant. Most Wizards held a condescending, even contemptuous attitude towards Muggles, often seeing themselves as superior. This was evident even in the way they referred to Muggles.
Moreover, the power disparity between the two groups would only exacerbate this mindset. After all, a Wizard who had graduated from a proper school could easily manipulate Muggles if they wanted to. A simple Love Potion could make a desirable person fall madly in love with them, and a bit of Magic could easily cause an accident that would kill someone they despised.
Not to mention, a few Wizards possessed Magic like Memory Charms and Legilimency, which allowed them to delete or alter Muggles' memories at will. Describing their actions as "doing whatever they want" would not be an exaggeration.
In essence, Muggle laws held no sway over a Wizard. If they were clever enough, they could commit crimes without anyone ever finding out. Such temptation would be hard for anyone to resist.
"What if we registered all Wizards and managed their spellcasting behavior?" Ivan said, unwilling to give up.
"No Wizard would give up the freedom to cast spells as they please, and the Ministry of Magic lacks the capability to manage adult Wizards." Dumbledore put down his teacup and looked at Ivan seriously.
"In fact, every so often, some Wizards cannot resist the temptation and wreak havoc in the Muggle world. The Ministry of Magic spends a great deal of effort dealing with these incidents every year..."
"If you can't ensure that all Wizards will abide by the rules, revealing the existence of the Wizarding World will only intensify the conflict between Wizards and Muggles, eventually leading to war!"
Dumbledore's words were sharp. He had lived through the disaster of several decades ago and understood the mindset of most Wizards. He also knew that many Muggles were deeply afraid of the power Wizards possessed and viewed them with hostility. Resolving this conflict would not be easy.
This could be compared to immigration issues between different races, but it would be a hundred times more complex and intense!
As long as a few Wizards continued to despise Muggles and commit crimes at will, causing chaos, the conflict between the two groups would escalate. Based on historical lessons, it would likely result in war or mass slaughter. Regardless of who ultimately perished—Muggles or Wizards—it was not a scenario he wanted to see.
