Chapter 817: To Hell
Chapter 817: To Hell
Whoosh.
Time, which had been frozen still, began to flow once more.
In their original positions, the two Demon Slayer Corps members remained, their expressions a mix of anxiety, regret, and urgency, as they rushed towards Kanroji Mitsuri and Sickle.
But in the next moment, both men were rooted to the spot in shock.
In their line of sight, the last thing they saw was Sickle instantly healing his injuries and sneaking up to stab a caught-off-guard Kanroji Mitsuri. Just as the blade was about to pierce her, both Sickle and Kanroji Mitsuri vanished into thin air!
The entire world before them exuded an eerie sense of disharmony.
"What...?"
"What's going on?"
The two men stared around in shock, but no matter where they looked, they could no longer see Sickle or Kanroji Mitsuri. Stranger still, even the headless corpse of the doctor far away had disappeared!
Damn it!
The two men exchanged a glance, each seeing the other's disbelief.
They stood there, unable to believe what had just happened, observing their surroundings for a long time before finally accepting that Sickle, Kanroji Mitsuri, and the doctor had all disappeared in a bizarre manner.
However, the injuries on their companion had been stabilized, and his complexion showed signs of improvement. Though it was just emergency treatment, it seemed he would make it till morning, when a doctor from the Demon Slayer Corps could arrive.
One of the Twelve Kizuki had suddenly vanished in a strange manner.
News of this incident quickly reached the headquarters of the Demon Slayer Corps.
However, it did not cause much of a stir.
Over the past year, the Demon Slayer Corps had clashed with the Twelve Kizuki on numerous occasions and had learned about the abilities of many demons, including a mysterious one who was not among the Twelve Kizuki—the Demon known as "Nuingirl."
Her exact abilities were unknown, but she was suspected to have the power to transfer people or demons into another space.
It was this ability that had prevented them from prolonging their biggest battle until daylight, which would have destroyed all demons. Just before the sun rose, all the demons had been consecutively moved away and disappeared.
This incident was likely Nuingirl's doing as well.
As for the well-known doctor who had been inadvertently dragged into the incident and disappeared along with them, as well as his wife, the Demon Slayer Corps held a funeral for them, along with some fallen members of the Demon Slayer Corps.
Disappearing with demons meant there was almost no chance of survival, and the doctor had sacrificed his life to save a member of the Demon Slayer Corps. This naturally earned him the respect of the corps' members.
...
On the other side.
In the world of death, in Hell, a certain place.
"Die, die, ahahahaha!"
Sickle appeared out of thin air, his face twisted in madness. He lunged forward, his right arm transformed into a sword, intending to tear Kanroji Mitsuri to shreds.
He was terrified by the immense power that this woman had unleashed, so much so that he thought he might have died if she had swung her Nichirin Blade and cut off his neck. This fear, of course, fueled his rage.
However.
Just as he was about to pierce Kanroji Mitsuri with his attack and tear her to pieces, the world before him suddenly changed in a bizarre way.
One moment he had been in the darkness of night, in the ruins, about to stab Kanroji Mitsuri's petite body.
But the next moment, the world suddenly brightened, revealing a strange world that seemed to be made of countless floating blocks, with an abyss below that seemed to have no bottom.
Sickle's arm-sword struck the young man's right arm, but it failed to pierce even the corner of his robe. Instead, the entire sword, along with Sickle's arm, couldn't withstand the impact and cracks appeared inch by inch until it finally exploded!
"What?!"
A hint of disbelief flashed in Sickle's eyes.
He wasn't shocked by the abrupt change in his surroundings; after all, when Muzan Kibutsuji had gathered the Twelve Kizuki before, Upper Moon Six's ability had once transported everyone directly to Infinity Castle. This sudden shift and bizarre space were similar to that experience, so he immediately attributed it to Upper Moon Six's spatial movement ability.
What truly horrified him was that his attack couldn't even pierce the corner of the young man's robe. Moreover, he sensed an extremely cold and deadly aura emanating from the youth, reminiscent of a serpent.
This aura was even more terrifying than Muzan's!
"W-Who are you?"
"And where is this place?"
Sickle took two steps back, creating distance as he warily eyed the young man before him.
The youth narrowed his eyes, studying Sickle, before calmly replying after a brief pause, "I am... Gin Ichimaru, and this is Hell."
Gin Ichimaru!
As the spy who had infiltrated Aizen's side with the intention of killing him, after that incident concluded, the Gotei 13 had used some means to verify his claims, leading to his identity being publicly revealed.
However, his past actions of assisting Aizen in opening the gates of Hell, killing many Shinigami and Rukongai civilians, and aiding in Aizen's research on Hollowification and the Hogyoku, among other things, were still unforgivable crimes that could not be pardoned, no matter the reasoning.
Thus, he was sentenced to the harshest punishment and cast into Hell.
His days in Hell had been relatively comfortable, as a captain-level existence, there were few individuals in Hell who could match him in battle. However, the absence of Rangiku left the world feeling desolately lonely to him.
"Gin Ichimaru?"
Sickle furrowed his brows, this was a name he had never heard before, and neither had he heard of Hell.
Although countless humans he had killed and devoured had cursed him to go to Hell before their deaths, in his opinion, there was no such place as Hell, for he himself was a demon.
"Where is Muzan?"
Sickle asked, his brows furrowed in suspicion.
Gin raised a hand to his chin, not answering immediately but instead regarding Sickle with a curious expression, "This is interesting... To be able to send someone to Hell without passing through the Gates of Hell is quite a feat. I can only think of one person capable of such a thing."
"What sin have you committed to incur the wrath of that person and be cast into Hell?"
Gin trailed off, a smirk playing on his lips as he opened his half-lidded eyes, revealing an unnerving gaze that sent shivers down Sickle's spine, "Oh ho, I'm quite intrigued now. Would you mind telling me the tale? I hope it's an interesting story."
Gin slowly advanced towards Sickle.
Soon after.
Piercing screams filled with endless terror echoed through Hell.
