Chapter 812: Recognition from a Lifelong Enemy
Chapter 812: Recognition from a Lifelong Enemy
Upon entering the core spirit field, Lu Chen performed the Earth Drawing Technique and planted the Huangliang Wood spirit seed.
As his consciousness focused on the spirit seed, detailed information about it appeared in his mind.
Huangliang Wood, a sixth-grade spirit plant. The collective consciousness of those lost in Huangliang Village converges and condenses to form this spirit wood. Once mature, the spirit wood has a miraculous effect on the divine soul, nourishing and strengthening it. Communing with the wood may also provide an opportunity to enter the rumored Huangliang Village.
During the cultivation process, the spirit plant exerts an inexplicable attraction on one's spiritual sense. If one remains in its presence for an extended period without vigilance and protection, their spiritual sense may sink into a mysterious illusion.
A dream within Huangliang...
"The cultivation conditions are not complicated. It only requires a rich and pure spirit soil and spirit energy," Lu Chen mused. "However, the spirit plant itself is somewhat sinister. If one's will is not firm and they stay with the spirit wood for a long time, they may become lost in the illusion."
"That's something to be cautious about," Lu Chen thought to himself.
After planting the Huangliang Wood spirit seed, he continued his inspection of the spirit field, examining each spirit plant in detail.
Within the cave mansion, two sixth-grade spirit plants were in their mature stages: the Sitting Buddha Lotus and the Nine Scholars' Treasure Tree.
On a treasure lotus radiating Buddha's light, a shadow of a novice monk could be seen, sometimes sleeping on its side and sometimes rolling and jumping, full of spirituality.
The Nine Scholars' Treasure Tree, after Hong Qinghai's incessant day and night recitation of poems and scriptures, had condensed numerous ink-scented branches and leaves. Even from a distance, one could sense a strong scholarly aura.
"There are no mature spirit plants in this cave mansion, but the stars in the Fengyuan Star Cave are almost ready for harvesting," Lu Chen noted.
After tending to them carefully, he decided to pay a visit to the Fengyuan Star Cave.
He opened the sixth-grade Wanzhang Xuanjing Formation and instructed the Grass Puppet and the Thunder Ghost to take good care of the cave mansion.
"There are more and more seventh-grade spirit plants in the cave mansion. Even with the protection of the formation, I still can't help but feel uneasy," Lu Chen said.
"I hope the Starfruit matures soon so we can open more Star Flags and have a chance to set up the seventh-grade Zhou Tianxingchen Sword Formation," he added, feeling a sense of anticipation.
Afterwards, he concealed his aura and, using the Dun Technique, swiftly made his way towards the Fengyuan Star Cave.
In the Fengyuan Star Cave mansion, Ling Gu, who was cultivating with great concentration, seemed to sense something and opened his eyes, revealing a deep river flowing into his body.
Just as he opened the formation, Lu Chen's figure appeared before him.
"How have things been lately?" Lu Chen asked.
"Everything is fine. The spirit plants are growing well. Occasionally, some evil cultivators come to visit, but it's just normal social interactions, and nothing eventful has happened," Ling Gu replied respectfully.
"Good. If there are opportunities to explore secret realms, as long as there's a chance to obtain something related to spirit plants, make sure to try and seize those opportunities," Lu Chen instructed once again.
Although Ling Gu was not a true external incarnation, having been refined from the Sacred Infant Fruit, Lu Chen's constant guidance and training had endowed him with a fair amount of spiritual intelligence, allowing him to handle most situations with ease.
After giving a few instructions, Lu Chen passed through the joint protective restrictions formed by the Illusory Extinction Five Elements Formation and the Yunzhu Arrow Formation and entered the spirit field.
As soon as he stepped in, an extremely familiar aura washed over him.
"Still the same atmosphere," Lu Chen murmured, absorbing the rich and pure yin energy of the spirit field and observing the scenes of bloodsucking, flesh-eating, soul-devouring, and bone-corroding all around him. A slight smile lifted the corners of his mouth.
As he passed by the blood pool, the Blood Spring Clam, which had grown to the size of a bathtub, emerged from the deep red blood water. Sensing Lu Chen's familiar aura, it excitedly gushed out a waterfall-like stream of blood from its cracks.
"You're getting better at spraying blood," Lu Chen remarked with a hint of praise as he continued on his way.
He had only taken a few steps when he felt a strange sensation on his feet. Looking down, he saw a gorgeous female corpse's skin bag crawling up his leg.
The Fragrant Meat Branch was rooted in a pile of flesh and blood, its aroma making Lu Chen's mouth water. The Soul Insect Fungus was surrounded by countless low-level evil souls and resentful spirits, drawn to it like moths to a flame.
The Ancestral Coffin Wood had already taken root and sprouted, its branches spreading across the spirit soil, faintly resembling a coffin. The cultivator implanted with the Fierce Bone Demon Seed had lost all human form, now nothing more than a dense mass of stark white bones like a porcupine's quills.
The Ghost-Eating Evil Vine had taken on the shape of the Shadow Swallowing Ghost it had once consumed, possessing the same bizarre ability to invade shadows.
After nurturing each of them, Lu Chen made his way to the Corpse Demon Pavilion that Wood Daoist had entrusted him to cultivate.
This particular evil spirit plant had grown to a height of three stories. Countless bones of various lengths and thicknesses were intertwined, forming a sinister platform of white bones.
"The sixth-grade Corpse Demon Pavilion is almost fully mature," Lu Chen mused, gazing at the semi-transparent progress bar below the platform.
He released a large pile of demon beast bones from his storage bag, providing ample material to support the growth of the pavilion.
Beyond the pavilion, a pitch-black tree came into view. Its bark resembled that of an aged woman, and its vague facial features could be discerned on the trunk. Countless dusky branches hung down, swaying without any wind, poised to attack at any moment.
"It seems one of the spirit plants has matured," Lu Chen observed, his heart filled with joy, as he noticed the full progress bar below the fifth-grade Demon Granny Tree.
The Demon Granny Tree, sensing Lu Chen's presence, opened its eyes, its features contorting with a desire to devour him.
"Are you thinking of an old acquaintance you once fought countless times?" Lu Chen asked with a smile. "Well, it remembers you, too."
As soon as he had approached the Demon Granny Tree, the Demon Ghost Vine within the Gluttonous Worm Pouch had become restless, eager to face its old foe.
With a thought from Lu Chen, the grayish-white vine appeared on the ground.
The moment the vicious face on the Demon Granny Tree laid eyes on the Demon Ghost Vine, it went berserk.
Countless branches shot upright like spears, a tempestuous storm assaulting the Demon Ghost Vine.
The grayish-white vine shot out like lightning, encircling all the dusky branches in an instant.
"Is this your limit? I'm a little disappointed," Lu Chen conveyed, sensing the Demon Ghost Vine's thoughts.
It seemed a bit disappointed in the fully matured Demon Granny Tree.
This nonchalant attitude, as perceived by the Demon Granny Tree, drove it to the brink of madness.
Its vague features contorted, emitting intense black light, and the once-encircled branches suddenly enlarged, exuding a murderous aura.
Under the influence of this murderous aura, the grayish-white vine faltered for a moment, and it was about to be pierced by the spear-like branches.
At the last moment, hundreds of grayish-white tentacles sprouted from the vine, weaving a giant net that deflected the frenzied assault of the Demon Granny Tree.
"Not bad. Now you're showing your true colors," the Demon Ghost Vine, the lifelong enemy of the Demon Granny Tree, conveyed.
