Chapter 812: Emergency
Chapter 812: Emergency
"Mo... monster..."
The leader of the Ghost Head gang stared at Kanroji Mitsuri, his eyes widening in terror.
He possessed considerable strength, which was why he held such a position, but even his exceptional power was no match for Mitsuri. The brief clash they'd just had left him feeling like she was a monster hiding beneath the skin of a delicate young woman.
Beneath that doll-like exterior lurked something akin to a ferocious beast.
The leader took a few frightened steps back, his breath coming in sharp gasps. Then, he spun on his heel and darted out the door, fleeing the courtyard. His underlings, equally terrified, scattered in all directions.
Mitsuri lowered the wooden club she had snapped in half and watched them go. Her chest rose and fell slightly, not from exertion, but from the weight of the looks they had given her—the same looks they had given the leader when he'd called her a monster. Those words and the fear in their eyes weighed heavily on her.
Biting her lip, she slowly turned to look at Feng Ye. She was afraid of seeing that same fear, that same look that regarded her as a monster, in his eyes.
Since being with Feng Ye, she had occasionally displayed her extraordinary strength, but never to this extent. She had indeed been like a monster, just as the gang leader had said.
However...
When she turned to Feng Ye, she met his gentle gaze.
"Are you hurt?" he asked, reaching out to ruffle her hair.
Mitsuri froze, then felt something like honey melting inside her, a sweet warmth that chased away all her worries. She beamed at him, nodding vigorously.
"No! I'm fine!"
Feng Ye smiled softly. "Good."
He turned to the injured man beside them and said calmly, "Now you can rest easy. When you've recovered, I'll let you go."
"Ah, yes, yes," the man replied, snapping out of his daze. He thanked Feng Ye in a low voice as he shuffled back to his room, his head bowed.
"You're welcome," Feng Ye said, shaking his head. "I'm just following my own rules."
The injured man nodded gratefully once more before disappearing into his room.
Feng Ye and Mitsuri were now alone in the courtyard.
Mitsuri hadn't looked at the injured man since the beginning, and now her eyes were fixed on Feng Ye. Her eyes, like emerald gems, sparkled with unshed tears.
"Feng Ye, let's... let's go rest, too," she said, throwing away the wooden club and wrapping her arms around his shoulder.
Feng Ye looked at Mitsuri, her expression one of determination, as if she were about to declare that she wanted to bear his children. He couldn't help but chuckle, then turned his gaze to the wide-open gate of the courtyard. "Tonight has been eventful," he said slowly.
Mitsuri paused, then turned to see a figure rushing into the courtyard.
This new arrival wore a black uniform, complete with buttons and a belt, but no distinctive emblem on the front, only a single character, 'Ghost', on the back. It was a stark contrast to the Ghost Head gang's attire, and the person was covered in blood, with a noticeable wound on their shoulder. They exuded a strong scent of blood, and a sword hung at their waist.
Due to the Ghost Head organization's actions, her first instinct was to protect Feng Ye.
But Feng Ye shook his head, placed a hand on her shoulder, and walked past her towards the man in black. "You're injured," he said. "Do you need treatment?"
Mitsuri might not have recognized the uniform, but to Feng Ye, it was all too familiar.
It was the uniform of the Demon Slayer Corps!
The wounded man before them was a member of the Demon Slayer Corps!
"I apologize for disturbing you at this late hour, but I beg you to save my companion," he pleaded. "My injuries are nothing, but if my companion doesn't receive treatment soon, he may not make it!"
The Demon Slayer Corps member fell to his knees before Feng Ye, bowing his head to the ground, unmindful of the blood flowing from his wounds.
"Ah..." Mitsuri gasped, covering her mouth in surprise. "Your wounds... What did you say...?"
Feng Ye hesitated for only a second before turning and running back into the house. "I'll get the medicine box," he called over his shoulder. "Please wait."
"I'm eternally grateful!" The Demon Slayer Corps member never expected Feng Ye to agree to his request without even asking for a reason. Overjoyed, he called out his thanks to Feng Ye's retreating back and bowed again.
Mitsuri opened her mouth to speak, then walked forward and grabbed a piece of clean gauze hanging in the courtyard. She quickly bandaged the Demon Slayer's shoulder wound while asking, "How did you get injured? And where is your companion? Were you fighting someone?"
Feng Ye had agreed to help without questioning the situation, but Mitsuri couldn't ignore it. While saving lives was a doctor's duty, she wouldn't allow Feng Ye to put himself in danger.
"Umm... well..." The Demon Slayer Corps member stammered in response to Mitsuri's questions.
The affairs of the Demon Slayer Corps were confidential, and the existence of 'demons' was not common knowledge among ordinary people. If the situation hadn't been so urgent, he wouldn't have thought of seeking help from Feng Ye, a doctor, but an ordinary human.
After all, involving ordinary humans in demon-related matters went against the principles of the Demon Slayer Corps.
"...?" Mitsuri's eyebrows furrowed as she noticed the man's hesitant tone. Sensing that the situation was more complex than it seemed, and that he was reluctant to speak even in such an urgent situation, she hesitated.
As Feng Ye returned with the medicine box, she turned to him and said, "Feng Ye, I asked him what happened and how he got injured, but he doesn't seem willing to talk about it. Should we..."
Feng Ye shook his head. "A life hangs in the balance. We'll save them first and get the details on the way."
"Alright." Mitsuri knew her husband's character and sighed softly, deciding not to argue. She quickly walked to a corner of the courtyard and grabbed a wide-bladed knife she usually used for chopping medicinal ingredients.
If they encountered any danger, she would protect Feng Ye!
Mitsuri's eyes shone with determination.
"Let's go," Feng Ye said, looking at the injured Demon Slayer Corps member. "Lead the way."
The Demon Slayer Corps member nodded gratefully at Feng Ye and then sprang to his feet and ran outside.
