Chapter 812: All the Information in His Brain...
Chapter 812: All the Information in His Brain...
“Lucius, Goyle, Crabbe, Gagerson…” Out of fear for someone, Voldemort could only redirect his full fury onto the traitors, wishing he could tear them limb from limb at once.
The Death Eaters present looked at the list of heroes in the Daily Prophet, feeling equally enraged.
This wasn't just because they had been unjustly implicated; more importantly, it was because Malfoy, that bastard, had chosen to flee with Goyle and Crabbe, those two fools, without even bothering to inform them.
It was a grave insult…
Fenrir, standing to the side, was even more frustrated. When he joined the Death Eaters last month, he thought he had found a powerful patron who would allow him to lead his Werewolf Wizards to wreak havoc in the Wizarding World.
But this beautiful dream was shattered by the cold reality. The seemingly invincible Dark Lord was constantly constrained and thoroughly outmaneuvered. The Wolfsbane Potion he had promised turned out to be a low-quality version, pushing Fenrir's accumulated discontent to the brink.
If not for the Dark Lord's formidable power, he would have quit long ago.
“Master, what should we do now? Should we capture Lucius and the others?” Snape asked solemnly.
Unlike the other Death Eaters, Snape did not look down on Voldemort because of his recent failures. He knew that this was precisely the most dangerous time for the Dark Lord!
If Voldemort, driven to madness, disregarded everything and went on a killing spree targeting civilian wizards, the Wizarding World would face a catastrophe!
The wavering thoughts of the Death Eaters were instantly brought back by Snape's words. Everyone looked at Voldemort with bated breath, hoping the Dark Lord wouldn't impulsively lead them to the Ministry of Magic, which would be a suicide mission.
To vent their anger, they could always capture a few Muggles and torture them mercilessly.
However, Voldemort's next words took everyone by surprise.
“No, we do nothing for now.” Voldemort's face twisted into a cold, sinister smile.
“Aren’t you planning to punish the traitors and take revenge on Ivan Hals?” Snape asked, puzzled. He didn't believe the Dark Lord could swallow this humiliation.
Voldemort's expression twitched. Of course, he wanted to. If possible, he would storm the Ministry of Magic right now. But Voldemort was also aware that he was no match for Ivan Hals. Blindly charging in would only lead to his own demise!
As for Malfoy, Goyle, and the others?
This morning, he discovered that the Dark Marks he had branded on them had been broken, meaning Lucius Malfoy and the others had completely escaped his control. They had likely already taken refuge in the Safe House in Knockturn Alley, making it difficult to track them down.
However, to boost the confidence of the Death Eaters, Voldemort did not voice these concerns publicly. Instead, he sneered and said,
“Even if we do nothing, they won’t be happy for long. Ivan Hals is too arrogant. He thinks that controlling the Ministry of Magic and fooling the masses will ensure his safety, but he has forgotten one crucial thing—those who decide the outcome of the war are not these fools…”
At this, Voldemort suddenly turned to Snape and asked,
"Severus, how is the task I assigned to you coming along?"
"Master, I have informed Dumbledore about Ivan Hals's true nature as you instructed, but Headmaster Dumbledore doesn't seem to believe me", Snape said calmly, then added, as if a thought had just occurred to him.
"Additionally, Dumbledore has rarely returned to Hogwarts in recent months. No one knows where he has gone, and even I can't find him."
"Surely you have a way to contact him, don't you, Severus?" Voldemort stared at Snape, his tone growing more intense.
Snape was his undercover agent within Dumbledore's circle. To gain the trust of this White Wizard, he often provided some less crucial information, allowing Snape to report back to Dumbledore honestly.
Because of this, Dumbledore must have a means to contact the most powerful White Wizard, even if it's a one-way communication. This way, in emergencies, Snape could relay important messages to Dumbledore.
Under Voldemort's scrutinizing gaze, Snape hesitated before nodding. "Master, you are correct. I do have a way to contact him, but it is one-way, and I cannot guarantee that he will respond."
"An event of such magnitude in the Wizarding World will not be ignored by Dumbledore. I want you to inform him truthfully about Ivan Hals's scheme to control the Ministry of Magic. I am certain he will find it very interesting", Voldemort said in a dark, ominous tone.
In his view, Dumbledore was a hypocritical wizard, a guardian of Muggle-borns and Muggles, possessing extraordinary power yet content to remain confined within the small world of Hogwarts, bound by the so-called order set by the weak.
This was like a tiger tying its own claws to please a flock of lambs—utterly absurd!
However, Dumbledore's inexplicable sense of justice and responsibility also meant he would not tolerate Ivan Hals ruling the Wizarding World through conspiracy and force.
The intense conflict between them was almost irreconcilable, and the slightest push would set it off.
"But we have no evidence to accuse Ivan Hals", Snape said cautiously. Currently, the public believed that the Dark Lord himself had infiltrated the Ministry of Magic, with no connection to a fifth-year student.
"Who said we don't?" Voldemort said with a cold laugh. "I will provide you with a reliable witness, one who can prove Ivan Hals's sinister intentions."
A witness? Snape was taken aback for a moment, then a low hissing sound came from the entrance of the hall.
Everyone turned to look, and a long Great Serpent slithered in, its tail coiled around an unconscious wizard.
"Notte?!" Snape narrowed his eyes, searching his memory, and quickly identified the man.
Fifteen years ago, they had been colleagues, but after the Dark Lord's resurrection, Notte had not returned. Snape had assumed Notte was dead.
"Severus, your task is to bring him to Dumbledore. All the information is in his mind", Voldemort said, pointing to the unconscious Notte on the ground.
While a wizard's memories can be altered, a skilled Legilimens like Dumbledore can easily distinguish between real and fabricated memories. Combined with Snape's testimony, it should be enough to reveal the true face of the student Dumbledore holds in high regard.
