Chapter 812: A Different Journey
Chapter 812: A Different Journey
Two worlds. That's what stood between Lindsey and his destination, as described by the expeditioners.
Lindsey fell silent, grappling with the reality of the situation. His initial instinct was to dismiss the idea of crossing these worlds.
But then, he realized something. He was no longer the person he used to be.
In the past, crossing the Black Mountain World would have taken an indeterminate amount of time, and traversing the Forest Courtyard would have taken around ten months, relying on water routes and existing paths to shorten the journey.
But now? Not only had his speed increased exponentially, but he also possessed various skills that allowed him to fly or move underground, easily overcoming obstacles like mountains and swamps.
"Moreover, there's no need to establish a base or save others," he thought.
The more Lindsey considered it, the more feasible it seemed. With his current abilities, crossing these two worlds might only take a few weeks.
He couldn't view the situation from the perspective of an ordinary person anymore, especially after his awakening. And taking proactive action was more in line with his character than passively waiting.
"It's time to set off..."
The expeditioners noticed the determination in Lindsey's eyes. They admired his adventurous spirit, and Sonia immediately pulled out her backpack, opening it for him.
"Lindsey, it seems you've made up your mind."
"Is there anything you need? I can provide you with whatever I have here."
Most of the items Sonia offered were food and tools, and the other two expeditioners shared a similar sentiment. However, some items obtained during their adventures, like uranium ore, were not displayed due to safety concerns.
Looking at the modest supplies, Lindsey felt a mix of emotions. These expeditioners weren't particularly powerful, with their Essence Skills reaching only around the fifth stage. For them, in this environment, food meant survival, and tools represented the ability to create a livable space.
Lindsey politely declined, shaking his head.
"I'm fine. You'll need these to establish your camp."
Sonia smiled and gently pushed the items in her hand forward.
"The materials for the camp will be carried by the main group, and we have Awakened ones to help. It won't be a problem."
"..."
"Then, let's trade." Lindsey thought for a moment and took out some items from his bag, "I have some food too, but it's nothing compared to your thoughtful preparations."
Lindsey brought out some of his perfectly preserved food, which he had sealed to maintain freshness.
After a brief exchange, it was time for goodbyes.
Lindsey inquired about the canyon where uranium ore could be found and the location of the temporal anomaly. Finally, he asked a question:
"Sonia, do you know about the Abyss?"
"Abyss? What's that?" The expeditioners asked in confusion.
Lindsey explained, "It's a school of Awakened skills."
Sonia shook her head, perplexed, "Never heard of it."
Just as Lindsey confirmed that this world had no knowledge of the Abyssal forces and prepared to continue his journey, Aland, who had extinguished the campfire, spoke up:
"Lindsey, are the Abyssal skills related to darkness?"
Darkest Path, Deformation, and Carnage—these were the three major paths of the Abyssal school, with the Darkest Path leading the way.
Lindsey nodded, "Exactly."
Andaphel maintained a calm demeanor and did not offer any special description of the Awakened One, "Perhaps you're referring to the Shadow Walkers of the Negative World. In our world, we rarely encounter them."
"..."
After bidding farewell to the three expedition members, Lindsey headed west.
His figure trailed a long path on the ground, and his mind was still pondering the state of this world, or rather, the former Abyssal School.
According to Andaphel's information, the Abyssal School, like most other schools, had only one path and had not yet branched out.
They referred to themselves as Shadow Walkers, and their base camp was located in a reflection world attached to the main world, where they usually remained curled up, rarely venturing out, so not many knew of their existence.
"They show no signs of external invasion, nor do they possess the dangerous techniques of the other two types. What could have happened in the future to make this school so dangerous?"
Lindsey couldn't fathom the reason.
For several days, he attempted to traverse the entire world.
The scenery he witnessed during this journey was surprising.
This world at the cosmic frontier was more prosperous than the newly born City of Law he had just experienced. In both prominent and inconspicuous corners, plants and insects thrived, bringing vibrant life to the world.
As Lindsey flew through the air during his journey, he occasionally passed by birds in flight.
Mammalian creatures could also be spotted in the forests.
"With these resources, it's indeed possible to establish a small territory."
"But for the expedition members..."
"After enduring such hardships, they spread their knowledge of Essence Techniques to enlighten the native races. Yet, instead of returning home to share their glorious achievements, they chose to settle here, burning their last brilliance."
Lindsey couldn't help but think of the future.
According to the information he had, among those who embarked from the Hidden Periphery to explore unknown realms, there were even Eighth Stage Awakened Ones! Each person's technique type varied.
The abilities of the Eighth Stage were not something everyone could attain, and not everyone could become the master of world creation.
"But in the face of such power, did the expedition truly face difficulties?"
"After the age of exploration, did future expedition members not only focus on expanding their living space but also set their sights on even more distant places?"
Lindsey thought of a legend and a personal experience.
The former was a tale he had heard in the Seven Seas Alliance about the Lost Sea, a place where all things ended, filled with various locations. The latter was the void beyond the universe that he had witnessed when crossing worlds.
Perhaps only these two places were worthy of the expedition undertaken by those powerful beings.
In the following days, Lindsey also discovered Sonia's companions.
The travel-weary people walked below, following the path forged by their companions ahead, preparing to reach the edge of the universe and establish a new home for themselves.
With this encounter, Lindsey bid farewell to the expedition members.
With his current strength, his speed alone was a testament to his capabilities.
A few days later, he arrived at a new world boundary.
On the edge of a deep blue-black coastline, where the air was filled with the scent of seaweed, several membranes that reflected the sunlight, between a gaseous and liquid state, floated by the shore.
Facing these 'mirrors' that reflected the light, Lindsey realized he had successfully crossed a world. But recalling the 'arduous and lengthy' process of crossing worlds, his mind couldn't help but feel a little disoriented:
"I just..."
"Really..."
"Have I truly reached the end of this world?"
