Chapter 81: Using Genjutsu on a Noble Otsutsuki? What an Idiot!
Chapter 81: Using Genjutsu on a Noble Otsutsuki? What an Idiot!
"Aaaaah... My head hurts so bad!"
Izayoi didn't feel a thing as the invisible Yin Release chakra seeped into his body. The chakra dissipated harmlessly, repelled by an intangible force of rules before it could even enter him—just like how Shinra Tensei deflected and scattered ninjutsu. The backlash left the caster writhing in agony.
The bloodcurdling scream came from Yamanaka Fū, hidden in the shadows. He'd tried to seize Izayoi's body in a decisive strike to claim the Rinnegan for Lord Danzō. Now, Izayoi stared down at Fū, who clutched his head and rolled on the ground, eyes bulging. Speechless, Izayoi muttered in his native tongue: "What an idiot."
Using Yin Release ninjutsu—a technique that manipulates spiritual energy—on an Otsutsuki, let alone one who'd awakened the ultimate eye technique? It was a masterpiece of self-destruction. Otsutsuki bloodlines resisted all but physical attacks and rule-based abilities, their defenses inhuman even in their red-tier lineage form. And if this were a pureblood extraterrestrial Otsutsuki, they could shrug off ninjutsu entirely—even genjutsu as advanced as Kekkei Tota or divine techniques. That immunity alone would leave 99% of shinobi hopeless.
"Continue. Use area tactics", Danzō Shimura's voice echoed from the darkness, ignoring Fū's screams. His words blended into Wind Release chakra. Without the Rinnegan and Kagura Shingan, Izayoi would've never pinpointed his location.
"Fire Release: Dust Hiding Technique!"
A barrier split open as four Root members spat sealing techniques, unleashing a cloud of dust. Before the barrier resealed, they bit their lips, igniting the dust with fire chakra. Orange flames erupted, primed to detonate.
"Shinra Tensei."
The repulsive force storm scattered dust and fire alike, slamming into the barrier. This time, the blast was monstrous. The barrier swelled like an overinflated balloon, deforming violently. Though unbroken, the four maintainers saw it collapsing inward—their own flames betraying them.
"Ah—!"
Their screams accompanied the barrier's collapse. The four-purple-flames formation vanished as the shockwave shattered the stone bridge, sending dust clouds swirling. The dim underground base plunged into pitch blackness.
Izayoi, who'd been testing the barrier's limits, paused mid-strike. Glancing at the charred corpses below the broken bridge, he sighed: "Pity. Such prime cannon fodder."
Suddenly, his eyes sharpened. Without hesitation, he unleashed another Shinra Tensei, scattering invisible nanoscale toxic insects. As he landed, elemental attacks rained from all directions—only to disintegrate against his repulsive force.
Root had abandoned barriers, now using Earth Release to flood the battlefield with mud while bombarding him remotely. Their goal? Force Izayoi to exhaust his abilities for Danzō's intel.
"Why haven't the other squads arrived? Did you fail to relay my orders?" Danzō asked, eyeing Yamanaka Fū's recovery.
"I contacted everyone. If they're delayed, they must've encountered enemies", Fū groaned, clutching his head. "I sensed chakra signatures—probably his subordinates. They're weak, but unless they're ambushed one by one, they can't match our squads."
Danzō's scowl eased slightly before turning to Aburame Torune. "Tookō, any progress?"
Torune nodded. "His technique is unique—repelling all ninjutsu with short cooldowns. But it has flaws. He needs time to charge, converting chakra into nature transformation. A green barrier appears around him during this window."
"If he spams it consecutively without structures nearby, it becomes a Wind Release upgrade—deflecting everything. Physical resilience could let someone tank the second strike."
"He avoids this, preferring to charge mid-air. That's our opening, but..."
Torune trailed off. Fū continued: "His Yin Release chakra is overwhelming. Even our Yamanaka mind techniques—and likely genjutsu—fail. We must prevent charging and interrupt instant casts, but it's impossible."
"His chakra reserves are endless. Attrition won't work", Torune added.
"Flight, offense, and defense in one technique... Is this the Rinnegan's true power?" Danzō's gaze burned with greed. "The legendary Three Great Dōjutsu's pinnacle must hold more secrets."
He began unbandaging his right eye, releasing the seal on his Mangekyō Sharingan. Signaling Fū and Torune, they vanished.
Izayoi, meanwhile, played a deadly game with Root—deflecting attacks while absorbing chakra. Blue, green, and purple beams pierced him, each triggering system alerts. He dissolved them into points, scores skyrocketing with every hit.
To Danzō, Izayoi seemed cornered. In truth, Root was a goldmine. Each member was a walking loot chest—elite chūnin to bloodline-wielding jonin candidates. Killing two guaranteed rare drops. Izayoi's eyes welled with tears. His lucky break had finally come.
No more anxiety about falling behind in the Shippuden era or divine invasions. For the first time, the ninja world's Kekkei Tota and gods themselves felt like mere content updates.
