Chapter 808: Golden Partners
Chapter 808: Golden Partners
Black Garden, Field Spell.
In simple terms, in this field, the attack power of all summoned monsters is halved for both players. Additionally, whenever a monster is summoned, an "800 ATK Rose Token" is automatically generated on the opposing Duelist's field.
The second effect allows you to destroy all Plant-Type monsters on your field and revive Plant-Type monsters from the graveyard with a combined attack power equal to the destroyed monsters.
Since this card is part of the third-generation anime 5DS heroine Ayumi Aki's deck, You Xuan initially thought it would be a card from the next generation.
However, upon further thought, 5DS is set in the same world as GX, just in the future, and many cards from the past are still in use.
Although it is stated that 5DS takes place several decades after GX, the character Uemachi-senpai, a disciplinary committee member from the early days of the DM manga who had beaten up Jonouchi and extorted Yugi, appears in 5DS as a security officer responsible for arresting criminals through Ride Duels.
Given that there is already a decade-long time gap between DM and GX, if 5DS takes place several decades later, Uemachi-senpai should be an elderly man in his twilight years and unlikely to be active in the storyline. If this character is used as an anchor point, it is unlikely that much time has passed between the second and third generations.
Additionally, he unexpectedly discovered a few Ice Barrier cards.
Ice Barrier was also a popular deck in its heyday, and as the name suggests, it is a deck composed entirely of Water Attribute monsters with effects that primarily focus on disrupting the opponent's gameplay. Among them, the Synchro ace monsters Photon Dragon and Triclops were once renowned on the Forbidden List for their disruptive effects.
Of course, there are no Synchro Summons now, and it's a stretch to call it a "deck" with only a handful of cards, it's impossible to form a competitive deck.
This made You Xuan think that with the advent of the Synchro era, Ice Barrier could be a decent deck.
Not only because of its strength but also because of its annoying effects.
Recently, You Xuan has had a good harvest, and his inventory has welcomed a significant increase in stock—a rare occurrence for him at this point. Over the past half a year, his inventory has been significantly improved, and it's become challenging to find valuable cards even through the Duel Academy's channels.
First, he completed the Volcano Deck—though he only just obtained the final few components from the Kaiba Corporation. The deck construction had been underway for quite some time.
Next was the Gladiator Beast Deck, which he had just acquired from Melo. This deck held a dominant position in the Fusion era and was used by the World Champion.
Additionally, after defeating the Tyrant, although the Tyrant's evil heart and his entire family were absorbed by Yugi, You Xuan also gained a significant advantage. He obtained several decks from the Tyrant's various subordinates.
Among them, the most valuable was this popular deck that appeared in the anime as a significant part of the Tyrant's army.
The Dark World.
The Dark World was once a popular deck with a large fan following. The deck consists of Dark Attribute Demon-Type monsters with a shared effect that triggers when discarded by card effects from the hand. When discarded by the opponent's card effects, they can activate even more powerful effects.
The Dark World was also quite strong in its heyday. However, collecting it was a bit challenging for You Xuan.
As depicted in the anime, each Dark World monster appears separately, scattered across various regions in the Tyrant's Synchro Dimension, within different numbered squads.
Therefore, You Xuan spent a considerable amount of time collecting these cards one by one as he traveled through the various dimensions of the Tyrant over the past few months. It wasn't until he finally cleared the Tyrant City Dungeon that he managed to roughly assemble a complete deck.
The benefit of this method of collection is that each Dark World card corresponds to a Spirit monster.
Although they do not directly reside in the cards, but remain in their respective Dark World, they are indeed the Dark World spirits that Yu Xuan has subdued through duels. Especially now that their former master, the Tyrant, has fallen, they are even more loyal to their new master.
Well, after all, they lost the duel, and they have no choice but to be loyal.
"Thank you for your patronage~"
Yu Xuan is now quite generous. Grandpa Jugo Kurogami takes the money, and with a smile, he hands over a box of cards to Yu Xuan.
"This young man is quite impressive," Grandpa Jugo said with a smile, "I've watched your duels before, and you have great potential. If you have the chance later, when Yugi returns, you can exchange ideas. My intuition tells me that you'll have a lot in common."
"Thank you, Grandpa."
Yu Xuan thanked him and put away the box.
He also wanted to exchange ideas with Yugi. Even if it wasn't for anything else, he was curious.
After all, by the time of GX, the once short and harmless Yugi had grown significantly taller, and his physique had become more like that of the former King. By now, he should have reached the maximum level, and in the Duelist World, he is like a mythical existence. However, the anime never showed how strong he truly was.
In the ending of GX, Yugi only let Judai travel back in time to duel with his past self. Even in the later movie, when the protagonists traveled through time and found Yugi, it was still during the DM era. The adult Yugi never appeared again in any derivative works.
Yu Xuan was also curious about how strong Yugi was now.
Elsewhere.
In a dimly lit alley, a man ran quickly, looking back in fear from time to time, as if afraid of being caught by something behind him.
But he was too concerned about what was behind him, and he didn't pay enough attention to what was in front of him. He tripped over something in the alley, stumbled, and fell hard, landing face-first on the ground.
He struggled to get up, but the last bit of strength in his body seemed to have been drained during his previous sprint.
Every cell in his body seemed to be crying out in despair, and he couldn't even force himself to stand up again. He could only lean against the wall, and his heavy breathing echoed throughout the alley.
Just as he thought he might have escaped, a voice spoke up.
"It's about time to give up, isn't it?"
The man trembled and turned around in fear. At the end of the alley, a young man wearing a red hat and a green jacket stood at the entrance, looking at him with a cold smile.
This is the man who, according to legend, has dueled with two generations of Duel Kings, Dino Dinozaki!
The man got up in a panic and turned to run. But when he turned around, he saw that someone was already blocking his way.
"Oh my, you've caused us quite a bit of trouble, haven't you? You're quite the runner. After all, you're the owner of the first generation Dark Duelist Club. Is running away like this really the right thing to do?"
The person who appeared had thick, oversized glasses on the bridge of his nose, and his cold expression made him look untrustworthy. He had a smarmy smile on his face.
This is also the legendary Duelist, the former partner of Dinozaki, Insect Weevil Underwood!
"My club has been uprooted by you, and you still want something from us?"
The man roared.
"What do you want? I don't know what you're talking about."
"I don't know. It escaped, and it's no longer in our hands."
The man's face fell as he spoke.
"It should have gone to Tou Shiye," the man said.
"Now we all know who Tou Shiye is. That place has completely fallen into the hands of the Hannover Knights. Ordinary people wouldn't dare provoke them easily."
Weevil and Dinozaki laughed in unison.
"Do we look like ordinary people?"
The man lowered his head, not daring to speak.
"Okay then, Tou Shiye. It's a place that brings back memories." Dinozaki said.
"The Hannover Knights, huh."
Weevil pushed up his glasses.
"I want to see for myself what kind of people we can't provoke."
